Bad Moonz Rising

Been a while since I've made a post, after the Knives in the Shadow competition, summer has been crazy busy between family and travel and whatnot. I also took a bit of a departure from the grimdark of the far future to dabble in models from a long time ago in a galaxy far away. Not entirely sure on the site policies regarding sharing pictures of other projects/games, so rather than risking an exterminatus on this post I'll limit my content to my current project.

Call to arms is here! Or has been for a while and I'm finally here for it. Decided this would be a great time to paint up my Wreckas Kill team! Been excited about painting these boyz up for a while now, and its breathed fresh life into my hobby desk. Before I started on them I decided that I'd paint them up as Bad Moons, and since I wanted to have both leader options, why not go with the best new character BL has produced in ages and throw in Ufthak Blackhawk in the mix! I was also recently gifted a set of Kommandos, so rather than paint up a 3rd set of them I decided to convert one of the boyz into an extra rokkit boy (the rocket bitz with the plume are so awesome I wanted to use as many as I could). I also threw in the kommando bomb squig since the wreckaz normal ones are a bit bland in comparison and I had it around anyway. With only one kit-bash on deck they assembled and primed up pretty quickly.

Once I got moving I was moving and didn't slow down to take pictures until after I had the skin applied. I used a new toy to apply the yellow without hitting the green, AK's airbrush putty.  I've used tape and blutac in the past, but I gotta say...the putty is where its at. Easy to apply, didn't pull off paint and pulled off pretty easily even in nooks and crannies. It settles SUPER quickly, so it can "fall" onto areas you didn't intend to cover if you're not moving quickly or not checking it before spraying...but its an awesome product. Highly reccomend

I used a yellow ink over white ink image.thumb.jpeg.44ab872f70cdd0dc3c73e44fb33fb01f.jpegthrough an airbrush for the yellow. The areas where the white was strongest came out looking the best, but overall I wasn't particually thrilled with the yellow, still felt too flat. Fortunately a few layers of a glaze using a deeper yellow sorted that.

I wanted to sort of match the GW scheme for Ufthak, so I stenciled in some flames using tape. They look pretty uniform here, but going back through the area with black and changing the heights/thicknesses broke them up and they look much better now (though I don't' have a picture yet)

Summer has been slam packed with family stuff, and work has gotten crazy so my progress has been pretty slow, but even noodling on them a few hours a week has been satisfying. Mostly I just love painting orks. Simple as.
