Terrain. Should I?

So what I wanna say. I need terrain. Somehow I'd overlooked this fact when painting my little dudes and murderous lizards. I have boarding action set, yeap. But. BUT! Baneblade shooting Carnifex on other side of little wall is surreal. Also test game shows that even mostly infantry armies  couldn't fight properly on such table.

Now I need to build( I think it's preferable option) or buy( even gakky terrain set cost fortune for what you get, not speaking of GW's). Big plus of former that I can build different kind of terrain and not only ruins and mechanicus who-know-what.

So today I started build my first ruin and iirc first terrain piece. I use foamed PVC since it's cheap and easy to work.

Here is inner walls. I add another layer outside. And it's become bulkier and actually start looks like damaged walls.

So guys any suggestions for terrain to build?

Nice terrain build!
For other suggestions, a good idea would be to look at what's available for purchase out there, or what's currently popular and pretty much try to copy that. I've recently bought an MDF gothic ruin (by TT Combat), which would be perfect to be replicated with what you have there.

Thanks. Yea I'd checked and some too plain, and GW's too ribbed. So gonna try keep it balanced.

Should you? Yes you should.

I would recommend starting by narrowing to what kind of environnement you want/which thematic. For example if you play AoS Seraphon and (almost any) 40k faction, you might seek for getting a mutual base for some key elements: Jungle, trees, marshland and green hills. Then you personnalize for each universe with one or two elements (2 pillboxes and a jungle ivy eaten ruin for example), while some temples and ruined big blocks may be more adapted to AoS while staying usable in 40k...

I have started my own homemade scenery set collection by defining a thematic (AshLand) that was too specific for being expended to the Old World for example, so I should have to resume everything.

Some elements that work well are big LoS blockers (fairy chimneys, rocky concretions) while staying impassable they channel the battlefield and give tactical challenges. And they are a good practising terrain for building up some scenery modelling skills.... But be aware that home made terrain may in the end cost too (DIY store paint can be expensive as the 25 to 30 bucks 500 mL pot will not be fully used and migjht be the smallest available in the store you go in instance...). To remain under budget, recycling is key.

Remind to think in advance to storage too, and make scenery modular and/or designed to be dissaembled. Indeed it requires space to be shelved...

Thanks! For now it's gonna be 4 sectors on 44 x 60 table and later wanna add one more for 44 x 90.

ruined district

Undamaged one, hilly forest/park and manufactorum.

Now I trying my current skills and start from ruins. We have here some ancient companies who make and sell acrylic paints for if I convert it right $1 for 100 ml. Starting from 100ml pot. So it shouldn't be problem. Plasticard and PVC that where main cost come from. Still I'll contacted some company who make PVC sheets for marketing agency. So that's gonna be pretty cheap.

Storage gonna be main issue.
