    Square Pants Bob

    By Bouargh

Hi Folks,   Today’s blog entry is a little bit specific as it deals with something different from my usual inputs: instead of reporting hobbying progress, I will talk about a trail I did for a new technique (à la TITH – i.e. something that is not new in general but new for me).     The technique is often reported on purpose of adding details and create battle damages or war-torn marks on miniatures. But beyond painting damages, the sponge might be used on purpose of

    Jagieŀŀo inspects their prizes

    By GSCUprising

The Resistance have finally captured the war machines they believe they require to make their stand.   Brutus, the Malcador, reliable, dependable the spine of their battleline. She will not fail them. She will hold the line, her battlecannon roaring, her sponsons blazing as she paves the way for the Resistance's advance. Wrapping Wreckas

    By zulu.tango

Hit the throttle on the Wreckas last week. I've been painting pretty slowly this year all things considered, decided to change that with this project. Finished up free-hand on a few items, got the squigs painted up, did the bases and oil washes last week resulting in a final project I'm pretty happy with!    I dug out some of the leftover terrain bits I had from the sector imperialis/Chalnath terrain. I put a fine terrain paste around those bits and then put in some sand to act as larg

    XIVth Legion build

    By W.A.Rorie

So am I back from Indiana. I have to head back to move In-Laws into a Retirement Center, in a few weeks. And of course everything goes sideways at work moment I get back. So hobby time has been non existence. Silver Lining is LGS not get Saturnine until Monday, so I can get everything I need to do first i.e. my XIXth Legion and Exorcists  Call to Arms Vows, that I have not started. And won't have time this weekend.   I did start on building one of My XIVth Legion Commanders, not sure w

Call to Arms 26'

This year I participate for a first time. I choose few small pledges in various strongholds, just to be sure I would finish them in time and wouldn't get frustrated with another 2,500 pts of guards.   I'm selected two kill teams for astartes and Death Guard and red terror for xenos strongholds.   Wish me a luck.

Need your Minerals (11th Edition)

Ok, so GW might have devastated this project. I’ll have another entry on my thoughts about it later.    Luckily I did have a few CPs that survived the purge and came out of the fire reforged. They did a semi-overhaul of the CPs. Secondaries are gone, Army Rule is the full rule now, and we now have unit enhancements as an option.    Still had my weekly CP meetup on Thursday and my opponent was cool using the new 11th edition rules.    I faced the same player from the

An opportunity that looks like stepping again into a new army...

Hi Folks,   Sometimes maths have a kind of magical power over mind. Such an influence may lead to decisions that might be a little bit irrational. Indeed the rational behind the numbers is not necessarily a good enough or trustable depiction of the irrationality of the question they are supposed to bring an answer to.   Let’s see: Genuine Knight Castellan kit = 150€ on GW online Genuine Arminger kit = 80€ on GW online Sum = 230 €   Eye of Terror

List-building for 11th ed

This will be different from my normal blog posts in this thread. I'll be working on making current, 11th ed compatible lists for four of my armies- Necrons, DA/Primaris, Votann, and CSM. I also have Imperial Knights and Imperial Agents, but I don't really want to run Knights right now (aside from annoying my friends) and Agents are not really an army I want to try to make work as they are currently. So, I'll run down my list and then thoughts on how it will play.       Necron

Old vs New, Teaching game.

Short update since work has been busy.    Protectors of Aun'Shar   So this time I got together the old Protectors of Aun’Shar CP, this week I was placed against another newbie. They were using Bane-Slayer’s Bulwark. For the game we did my usual modified Forward Position. They had the thunderers in the ruin on their home objective, champion was attached to the hearthguard and the warriors were split into two units, one with the melee weapons and the other with the heavy

Weathering

I've been exploring a more realistic grimdark style for my more recent projects. To get a nice variation on the large armour panels it's important to have variation in the textures.    I've used AK Terrains Muddy Ground and AK Corrosion Texture to create what you see in the images.     If anyone is unfamiliar with the products, Muddy Ground is pretty much synthetic mud and Corrosion Texture has a fine sandy texture to simulate the why metal swells and flakes when it rusts.

Somnium adveho verus - A dream come true.

I've been focused on the Horus Heresy since before we had official rules, back in the distant darkness of the Black Books.  I set my sights on saving up for a Fellblade to be a nice centre piece model.  I almost had one twice but real life got in the way.   Fourteen years and two children later, I've finally got my hands on one!   I've worked for the same company since 2006 and I was pleasantly surprised to find out there's a long service award after twenty years.  I decided a Fellblad

CtA 2026 - Planning...

So, I of course am going to do the CtA 2026. Love the event and getting more stuff finished! So far, I've decided to challenge myself and complete at least 5 points, or a minimum of a character model/5 man squad, in each of the Strongholds (Space Marines, Imperium, Chaos, Xenos, and Horus Heresy). I don't have a lot for all of the Strongholds, but I have at least a single character that I can do. Here's what my plan is so far-    Chaos Vow - All Word Bearers Chaos Lord in Terminator

CtA 26 - An inventory

Hi Folks,   This is that time of the year again, Call to Arms challenge is coming back.   For this 4th iteration, my contributions will probably follow a distinct path vs. previous years. Let’s be clear, I was organizing my pledges so that I compete for the points in a limited number of categories. This was made possible thanks to a back log that was, let’s say, substantial.  But after years of accumulation, and then years of painting, saif back log has melted like polar ice

Painting Bunker Bingo 2026 - Planning update

Hi Folks.   We are at mid year and it is time to draw a situation point on the Bunker Bingo. First half of the year has been prolific enough and the card is now largely filled.     My last entry is a Wraithseer that helped completing one line and one column. A nice stamp.     Second half of the year will probbaly be tougher in terms of fitting my backlog with the card. I indeed have something like 4 Battleline units (and no stamp left)

Hunting Bigger Prey

Got in two Combat Patrol games this week. Both against the Armigar Trailblazers. Now originally I thought the armigar one was one of the stronger ones, but after this bout, not so sure anymore.   First game was Scorched Earth and I was using the Stormglaive Hunters. Subatan had the Master Rider Enhancement and selected the kill warlord secondary. Opponent got first turn but due to terrain didn’t have any shots. They did move the warglaive (warlord) forward to get ready to capture the A

Decision has been made...

... but is it that surprising? I have decided keeping my only test and the Nemesis claws has been issued in a whitish scheme.   Thepainting process has not been that complicated once the recipe described in the previous blog entry has been validated. The dry bruched white gives an overall aspect that is dirty enough to fit to the idea of a unit of CSM cut from its logistical support and counting on resilience of its material rather than spare parts.    I use as an excuse this

Colour testing

Hi folks.   Title says it all. Or pretend saying it all as it is far from being a full testing, being reduced to a single recipe. The purpose is therefore more about convincing myself than choosing between different options.   Convincing myself about??? About paint CSM in white. I do not play CSM in regular 40k but I own some sprues of CSMs I have recovered 2 or 3 years ago as part of the Nemesis Claw+Mandrakes Kill team bundle. And these lads were unassemblied until last Sun

New Hunt, Old Prey

So due to a burst of ‘inspiration’ and some time off I managed to get the Stormglaive Hunters pretty much done. I say pretty much cause I realized a bit after I took the group shot that I had not actually painted the Outrider Sgt chainsword and in the few days lost it…. Well they are pretty much done and we got into a battle.    Stormglaive Hunters (Storm Warriors)   So there is a FLGS like a few blocks from my house that has their 40k day on Thursday. I have been teach

The Nightbringer is built

Managed to build the Nightbringer on his base and greenstuff the gaps despite suffering from Nurgle's Blessing the last two days. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out- the Purple Sun is such a cool model and I think it will make a statement on the table. As a bonus, I guess I get a Convergence of Dominion stele, which will probably never see the tabletop because it is not good.     Next up for hobbying I'm getting in a full set of Deathwing Companions from the He

Issues...?

So, got back from RMO (went 2-4, a personal best in a 30+ player tournament- I am never good in tournaments) and decided to start on my Nightbringer conversion. Tell me if you can figure out the issue -      So. My original idea of using one of the Convergence of Dominion steles to be the base and put a Purple Sun of Shyish on top of it is probably not going to work. I don't really see a way to make the full stele work as basing material and at this point I think cutti

Status Check in

Ok, I haven’t forgotten about this, just been a little busy.    So I did two more training CP bouts. I got to use the Medusan Reboubt against the Vanghast Swarm. Not much to it, the turrets took out the psychophage pretty much turn one and the heavy intercessors held their own against the rest of the swarm. I split the squad into two squads of five and sent them to take the two no-man land objectives. One group took the charge from the leapers and held. The other held their own against

An update for plogging along

Hi folks,   One quarter of 2026 has been spent already, and it is a good moment for stopping 5 minutes and considering the progress made on my plodding along project. And the way that remains to be walked.   The project has been defined as a starting point as a scenery project, mainly directed toward addition of scenery elements to my home-made set of items for an Ashland themed table. I wanted to add some elevation to a rather flat design. My main idea was to focus on a big

Diorama finished

Finished up the diorama, Unexpected Finds, which was painted in about 3 days over six/seven hours. I now know why the really good painters do things in sections, as getting into some of the areas was not easy and I had to do more clean-up than I wished. Still happy with it, especially since it was basically a "free" diorama that I was able to put together with leftover/unused kits that were sitting around my hobby space.     Up next for painting is finishing my

Votann, DA, Necromunda, and Inquisition weirdos

Just got some bits in and went on a little building spree. Included in the order was a single stele from the Necron Convergence of Dominion- did not really realize how big they were. It will still work for the base of my Nigthbringer count-as, but might just have to make the angle it is resting on a little more extreme, as it being 7 inches tall itself means that it is almost as big as the Nightbringer alone. So, that is on my project log to potentially get done next month.  The rest of the orde

Niklas Raymi - Ordo Machinum Inquisitor - High Xenophobe.

Hi folks,   I am still working on my bitz box cleaning. While I have focused on the major volumes (Paretto approach) in the initial stages, while I get closer from the end of the pile, I have changed my scheduling approach, working on some small, sometimes self standing, miniatures. I have for example a lonely Ork, a ooP CSM Raptor sergeant… and parts of the original Cypher miniature. Parts as I miss the plasma pistol and the back-pack. The latter has been used on a SM kitbashed Chapla

Adeptus Bricklayer

Hi folks,   A small insight on my plodding along vow for 12 MoH 2026. among the uncontrolled growths of this project it is worth mentionning the addition of a set of second hand Ryza pattern ruins. These I believe were initially released in Moon Base Klaissus (or is it Kassius?) . They have been then sold as a separate boxed set (latter reworled and lossing some parts such as the barricade with briken door and the sas entry) and finally re-released through the Hachette suscription.

Many out of Few - something else for my plodding along

Hi Folks,   After cutting in two an armoured container for my 12 MoH plodding along pledge, I stroke again. Lastentry was a kind of first time for me using med gauze as cammo net:   Two out of One – something for my plodding along - Bouargh´s miniatures´ closet clean-up - The Bolter and Chainsword   I've repeated the experiment but this time multiplying small stuffs into bigger deposits. The first test was with crates, that were simulated by styfoam block with
