The Damned are ready for their first battle
The past four months have been intense, but my Lost & The Damned force is finally ready just in time for its first event. On May 2nd and 3rd, I’ll be taking part in a Boarding Action event—the very reason this army project was started in the first place. I’ll be bringing this “Underdeck Uprising” force under the Chaos Space Marines banner, fielding a solid 56 miniatures in a 500-point format.
Once the event is over, the plan is to shift back toward an Astra Militarum army and explore proxy options for the purely Chaos Space Marine units. For now, here’s a look at all the units I’ve completed over the past few months, along with what’s coming next.
Let’s start with the Dark Commune. There will be a few unconverted units in this project log, but they’re models I consider iconic and essential to the DNA of a mad, mutant-infested force. I absolutely love the aesthetic of this unit and the distinct personality of each member.
I’m thinking of reusing them later on as a Cadian or Krieg command squad, even if the bases aren’t quite right. When they stand at the center of a horde of cultists, they truly radiate a sinister, malevolent presence.
Next up, I’ve converted 10 additional cultists, led by Zedd the Deviant. Once again, I really pushed for variety in shapes and silhouettes, with some ridiculously small mutants alongside towering brutes wielding oversized, improvised weapons.
This brings my total up to 30 cultists—doubling as Cadians or Krieg depending on how I choose to field them.
I didn’t modify the Fellgor Beastmen models at all—I think they’re just perfect as they are. They fit seamlessly into my army’s aesthetic, with their twisted mutant faces and imposing physiques.
The real challenge with them is figuring out how to field them within an Astra Militarum force. With their 32mm bases and close-combat-focused profiles, there isn’t really a datasheet that suits them properly. I’m hoping that in more narrative games, opponents will be open to letting me run them as allied units.
When I used to read old Chaos Space Marine codexes, I was always fascinated by the idea of Word Bearer demagogues—figures capable of single-handedly igniting full-scale uprisings and spreading corruption across entire Imperial worlds.
So here is Seraphus, a Word Bearers Dark Apostle who alone has rallied this army… and whatever comes next.
As for how to field him in an Astra Militarum force, I honestly have no clear answer. I might just use him as a purely decorative piece, perched atop a tower, or maybe magnetize the turret of my future Leman Russ tanks so he can stand on top of them.
That’s it for the current state of my force. I’ll probably make another blog entry soon to cover their first clashes in this weekend’s Boarding Action campaign.
As for what’s next, I’m planning to take a short break—painting 76 infantry models has definitely taken its toll. I’ll be switching back to my main project: a fully converted 4,000-point “haunted” Chaos Space Marines army. I might even start a dedicated blog for that one as well.
When I return to this force, the next additions will likely be a Leman Russ, five Rough Riders, and a Sentinel. That should give me a solid core to start playing Warhammer 40,000 games at the 500–1000 point level.
