Hey guys!

I have more additions to the Dengamar Strife story/setting I'm building. Continuing on after the Dumir’s coup. We learn the Imperium's response:

Part 3: Masquerade of Death

The city is under Gul Dumir’s control. Lord Inquisitor Dannyrer starts his investigation. An assassin’s blade is hoping to bring a swift end to the conflict. But the attempt fails and the traitors dig in.

The Imperium is a vast empire with many worlds that are under constant threat from many forces. So when the astropathic message arrived, the imperial authorities would act with caution. Regime change in the Imperium is common and it wouldn’t be the first time an ousted leader would cry heresy. The High Lords of Terra would task Lord Inquisitor Lanto Dannyrer AKA The Architect to head the investigation into the happenings of Dengamar. Inquisitor Dannyrer, a member of the Ordo Xenos and expert on genestealer cult infestation was tracking various cults movements that have metastasized in the wake of the Octarius war.Unsure if this was an actual genestealer infestation Dannyrer would send his Explicator Sabrina Nerys to investigate the situation that was developing in Dengamar. Agent Nerys would arrive in the Dengamar system in 002.M42.

Agent Nerys would find Dengamar Prime in a state of civil unrest as loyalist forces were mounting an attack on Hydris City from the Sand Wastes. The outskirts alight with lasgun fire and artillery blasts The Hydris City outer districts had suffered the most damage during the civil discord, basically reduced to ruins. While the inner districts remain intact. The main fortress and political center; The Palace of Glass was heavily armed with orbital defense cannons, anti-air batteries and thick fortress walls. Agent Nerys would land with her retinue at the Palace of Glass and declare herself as a member of the Imperial Inquisition hoping to scare the Palace of Glass residents into submission. Gul Dumir would play coy and priggish, inviting the inquisition agent down so they could discuss in person, even proposing an alliance to deal with the “dissident forces”. This was a trap, once Nerys made planetfall and the meeting with Dumir had started,The Palace of Glass’s orbital defense cannons would open fire on the inquisition ship above and obliterate it. Dumir would then dispose of Nerys by throwing her into a mold filled with molten glass.

By 011. M42, Lord Inquisitor Dannyrer hadn’t received any reports from Explicator Sabrina Nerys assumed the worst. He would try to cut the head off the snake by dispatching the Callidus Assassin Gwenthar Mor. She would make a planetfall near the outskirts of Hydris city. She would then find the debris and wreckage of Explicator Nerys’s ship. She would then shape-change into a Bloody Greys lieutenant and would then make her way towards the Palace of Glass in order to hunt down Dumir. Dumir, wanting to celebrate his victory and consolidate his power among the remaining noble houses, decides to throw a banquet. Gwenthar  would then infiltrate into the palace by impersonating the noblewoman Rochelle Muckscar. During the party where she would discover the true fate of Explicator Sabrina, as Sabrina’s remains were made into a grotesque icon to the gods of chaos. As Gwenthar closes in for the kill. Dumir springs his trap. Dumir through his coven of psykers known as the “Bloodspeakers” was able to uncover Gwenthar as an assassin. Activating a null field, Dumir disrupts Gwenthar’s polymorphine and reveals her true form.

With no choice, Gwenthar fights her way out of the palace and escapes into the ruins of Hydris city but is grievously wounded.

Part 4: City Under Siege

The Loxodon Guard find Caden Von Lash and aid him. They arrive in Dengamar and rescue the assassin Gwenthar Mor. Plans for the retaking of Hydris city are made and the invasion begins.

Meanwhile,  the Adeptus Astartes chapter Loxodon Guard while on patrol in the Greygar Sub-Sector where they discover a ship adrift in the void of space. The ship contains a stasis pod with Caden Von Lash. It would appear that the Lord governor’s son escaped Gul Dumir’s coup and put himself into stasis in a last ditch effort to save himself. Pleading his case to Saldom “Iron Hide” Veer, chapter master of the Loxodon Guard. The Loxodon Guard agreed to bring swift justice to the rebels and set a course to the Dengamar system. Arriving in the Dengamar system, they would receive an inquisitorial distress signal. Soonrem “True Heart” Thron, an apothecary and his kill team would drop pod down to the surface and were able to find and rescue Gwenthar.

With Gwenthar rescued, she was transported to the Battle Barge Shield of Endurance where she was debriefed. Although it's typically known that the Adeptus Astartes find assassins distasteful and untrustworthy, Gwenthar would prove an invaluable source in intelligence. She was able to confirm much of what Caden had witnessed, as well as an updated layout and capabilities of the Palace of Glass’s infrastructure. It was deemed necessary that any  drop pod attack on the fortification would result in massive casualties as the Palace of Glass sported massive anti-air batteries. It was deemed wise to land outside of the city, connect with the loyalist forces of House Ottoczar and assault the city with ground forces.Once communications were established with the Ottocazar’s “Sand Vipers” plans for the assault could be put into action.

The assault began with the Sand Vipers, the aim of leading with less equipped Sand Vipers was to probe the Bloody Grey’s response and to possibly lure them to overcommit. The Sand Vipers attacked the outer districts with Chimera transports and repurposed sand scrapers rigs and were met with fierce resistance from the Bloody Grey’s artillery and leman russ tanks. With the bulk of The Bloody Grey forces occupied by the attacking Sand Vipers. Gwenthar Mor would infiltrate and destroy key power junctions taking out the anti-air batteries. This allowed The Loxodon Guard to utilize Thunderhawk Transports and drop pods to assault the inner districts of the hive sprawl. Bloody Greys fought with suicidal fervor, collapsing tunnels and choking advance routes.

Using Infernus Squads to burn out the traitor defenses, The Loxodon Guard continued their advance toward the Palace of Glass, By dawn, the outer palace walls were breached. The Siege of Hydris City was far from over.

I will be posting some character profiles over the coming days to fill in some of the back story of these characters. So expect to be seeing those, until then!
