First go at Droog Boyz
I wanted to de-clutter the figures and give them all bowler hats and jock straps. I already had some milliput and tried making bowlers with it but it was quite friable (?)…crumbly. I bought a strip of greenstuff and gave that a go. It’s really tricky to handle. It doesn’t crumble but either gets sticky or, if you use water on your fingers and tools it gets very slippery. There is eventually a sweet spot after some working with it. I tried making a small brim first to add a dome on top but this proved difficult. In the end I resorted to sticking a dome on the head and then pushing the outer edges down and rolling it around as best I could. The results have been alright. More organic than I hoped but they’re Orks. I reckon they grow a mushroom of sorts and stick ‘em upside down on their heads.
Prior to assembly I chopped their “skirts” off and just smeared a lump of gs into a box/jockstrap shape.
I’m generally pleased with the look. I based the skin on Army Painter Green skin with a green oil wash over it followed by blocking in the muscles with Vallejo yellow green. I think I can do better and am waiting for an Army painter Green 5 pack to arrive for the next batch.
The white “warpaint on the face seems to work. Painting the eyelashes is hard because there’s not a lot of flat surface around the eye. They are fundamental to the look though so I will keep trying.
