A look on 2022, the current status of 2023 and some plans for the future
While the years before 2022 were mostly focused on building a lot and doing a little bit of painting, in 2022 I focused much of my hobby time on painting stuff.
In part it was due to changes in my professional and personal life, as I finally got the chance of working remotely rather than having to change city (or country) every few years and the stability of staying in one place along with my collection made things much easier.
Even though the work related change only happened mid of the year, I ended up achieving much more than before and painted a total of 790 models in 2022, including infantry, vehicles and buildings.
Since I am not running out of unpainted models any time soon, especially with the models converted as part of my self imposed zero bits challenge adding more to the pile every day (I am currently building/converting an average of 5 infantry models per evening as part of this challenge), the focus for 2023 is still on progressing through the queue, as well as get the spare parts closer to 0 (which will certainly not be reached anytime soon due to the fact that most boxes I bought have huge amounts of spare parts).
This year is going nicely so far in what relates to painting and the current total of 2023 is 369 which is nearly half of what I painted last year but in 3 months. Obviously there are some things that need to be highlighted, the models painted in 2023 have been mostly infantry or rough rider/cavalry equivalents, so things that are relatively faster to paint than a building or vehicle. Since I paint in batches, finishing 20-40 infantry models a week is often quite achievable, 20-40 vehicles would not be possible for me
Most of the next batches I have to paint will consist of infantry or cavalry, so the numbers are likely to keep increasing nicely throughout the year. My objective for 2023 was to paint on average more than 66 models per month, which was roughly the average for 2022 and at the moment the average is at 123 for the first 3 months of 2023, so I am well over the objective and hopefully I will be able to keep up the pace and paint a significant portion of my miniatures in 2023.
If things go well, next weekend I should finish another batch of 40 infantry miniatures and start with a batch of 30.
About 1 year ago this was the size of my painted collection and although I haven't had the chance to take a new full army picture, it would almost certainly not fit on the table now, especially because of the increase in painted vehicles and buildings. Who knows how it will look like by the end of 2023
