"There are those amongst our Ordo who say that I seek advancement for my own purposes, and they are correct.
My purpose is to destroy the daemonic and if I must rise to command an entire sector to do so, then so be it.
I am a servant of the Emperor and only those who consort with Warp-spawn need fear my ambition."
Torquemada Coteaz, Inquisitor Lord
I can not go back to sleep. The recurring dream. It is not dream, it is a memory from 20 years. The day I became and Inquisitor, the day my mentor, Inquisitor Lord "Ares", almost died, and the day that shaped us and the Agents in "Ares" employ. A lot has happened since then. Friends, fellow agents, my family, have died, retired, or just left for their own reason. Those that stay I am grateful for. Those that left, I miss their companionship. Those that have died, I mourn their loss. I wonder how "Ares" handled all these emotions for all those years.
I leave the master quarters of Enyalios, and head to the library. Enyalios is no longer Ares' Private Palace, I inherited it from him. Ares is not dead, but assigned else where. I do not where, as my clearance is not high enough. I am "just an Inquisitor with a private palace on Enceladus," as I have been told by other Ordo Malleus Inquisitors on Enceladus, Moon of Saturn. I am also told that I "inherited my Agents." It does not matter that, I have worked with some of them for most of my life.
"Inquisitor Thrace, did I accidentally summon you to the Library," asked Mar Chaunt, Head Scribe, Keeper of the Library, my friend of 30 years, as I walk into the Library.
"No, my friend," I say as I walk to my chair.
"Ahh, the dream, again then," he says as he passes me a glass of Amasec.
"Yeah," I say as I sip the Amasec and sit down.
"You know you should go see, her. She could clean, your aura. You would sleep better," he says walking back to the tray of food and drink.
" If she does not stab me in the heart," I reply looking at my glass.
"Well it, would not be a surprise if she did. The question is more of how deep is she going to bury the blade," he replies as he pours himself a glass of Amasec.
"Why did you bring her up so quickly. I have not said anything about or seen, Melisende, for almost 2 years," I asked.
"I had dinner with her earlier. She did not tell me to "not" tell you, this time. And before you ask I have dinner with her about once every two weeks," He tells me with a smirk on his face.
Melisende, a Zeta level Psyker and an Acolyte to "Ares'" rival Ordo Malleus Inquisitor-Lord Lord Mykel Westen. Beautiful woman with dark red hair, green eyes. I was in a romantic relationship with her, as much as an Inquisitor can have. While Inquisitor-Lord Westen was "Ares" rival, he was not mine. After the battle that took "Ares" from us, and almost into the embrace of death, I was assigned to continue my training as new Inquisitor under Inquisitor-Lord Westen, at the "request" of the Grand Masters of the Ordo Malleus. I served with Inquisitor-Lord Westen for the next five years. After my training was done with Inquisitor-Lord Westen, I continued my relationship with Melisende. Until 2 years, ago. It was not good break up. We were both on different paths, She was advancing through the Ranks of Inquisitor-Lord Westen's retinue, I did not want to interfere. So I ended it. It is commonly believed to be my loyalty to Inquisitor-Lord "Ares" and his memory. It is not.
Three years into my training with Inquisitor-Lord Westen, I saw Inquisitor-Lord "Ares", for what I assume was the last time. He was different. Not just physically but mentally. His armor was different too. His Tactical Dreadnought armor was no longer black, but white including his shoulder pauldrons, that were formally silver. No longer did he wear a cloak over his shoulder, or hood to hide his face. His face was visible, half of it metal with a bionic right eye. His right bicep down, and his below his right knee, were all now bionic. He was gravely injured during the fighting, what I now know, as a Herald of Slaanesh. "Ares" said his new assignment he no longer need the support of his staff, his palace, or his ship. He said I was like the son, he never had and all this was mine. He told me to carry on with his mission, as he trained me to do. And that Westen, could show me ways, he could not. My mentor cared about his staff. And the Imperial citizens. He gave me his staff, his ship Atos Polemoio, and his home, Enyalios. He seemed sad. Then he turned cold, and said 'Don't look for me. You won't be able to find me." And then "Ares" was gone. I never really talked to anyone about how I felt about "Ares" leaving except Melisende and maybe rare occasion Mar.
"Please tell, Melisende, I would love to see her. If and when she has time," I tell Mar.
"Tell her yourself," he tells me.
"What," I ask him.
"I am right here, Tobias. Mar said he had dinner with me, earlier. When does Mar leave the property," Melisende said from the library door.
"Melisende," I whispered as I see her.
"Inquisitor-Lord "Ares" needs your help," Melisende says.
