The Terminal lucidity hangs in low orbit above Katabasis VI.

A battleship only in name, the Lucidity is a wretched amalgamation of several vessels, fat-bellied and encrusted with otherworldly filth. Clumps of bloated fire blackened Astartes transports descend from its' undercarriage, shedding away from thin fleshy membranes. These boulbous shapes drift through the emptiness of hard vacuum, like flotsam in harsh winds, directionless yet inexorable. These vessels were once called stormbirds, though such a noble and imperial name fails what they have become. Sharp edges and blocky features have ballooned outwards, remaining hard as adamantium and yet shaped like fat fluid filled cysts - appearing like ravenous ticks larger than battle tanks. Formerly proud vessels, now warped beyond recognition. 

If the transports are leeches feeding upon the body of the Lucidity, the embarked Astartes are worms within its' flesh. The Infested, the hollow ones, are a successor to ancient Death Guard legion - known to be dour and morbid, fatalistic to the extreme. The Infested are a quiet lonely cadre within the joyous ranks of Nurgle's chosen. They silently drift across the galaxy spreading their horrific parasitic infestation. Slaughter, famine, genocide, pandemic, and bio-chemical doom are all bywords for their terrible predilections.
 

The vox crackles, amber bulbs flicker to life, the stormbird shudders violently. A voice buzzes within the hold.

"If they stand for Katabasis, they die for Katabasis." the voice is a metallic growl, stabbing and direct. In the brief pause, a keening mewling wail dances at the edge of perception,

"Building by building, room by room."

Several bolters are racked in unison,

"One rat at a time."

Well, to kick off this blog of finished lore scribblings and miniatures, I wanted to share a Saturnine terminator. Now, these are based on an old version of an STL made by Sedivalle, though you can probably see I've done extensive work to make it gribbly and grimdark. That extensive work includes my favourite thing, using bluestuff to steal little fun details from other models! The large bleeding wound you can see pictured above actually started life as the old forgeworld great unclean one, one of the anonymous wounds on its underside, or perhaps its breast. I can't quite remember.

This was actually made before the official release of that particular type of terminator armour. Anyways, all-in-all this gross lump of decay was made as a test piece for the warband - before the whole idea of who and what "The Infested" really came into being. In some of the pictures you'll be able to see the base, which was left blank for so long purely because I couldn't decide what to do.

I had a lot of fun making this lumbering beast, and I had even more fun painting him. I actually think this "original" scheme came out more yellow than the one I settled on, although the nature of how I paint the Infested means they all have an organic element to them, none are painted precisely the same - they simply use the same palette. Which is actually quite limited, I enjoy limiting my palettes as I feel like it forces me to make creative choices rather than just slapping paint on (also saves me some money).

I am pleased with how the picture came out here on B&C but I do think that a slightly higher quality picture (and a 360 video) is available on my Instagram here..

Now, as this brute was the test model, I think adding extra details like chain and pipes became a through-line I wanted to carry through the warband - especially the wet bloody effect I added to the pipes themselves, a component of many models I rarely think gets much thought. I'd also like to mention it's funny how paint reacts to lighting, you can probably tell I enjoy low exposure and dark backgrounds (Although I'm working on a fun industrial diorama based on necromunda terrain!) in my pictures.

Above you can see a slightly metalic sheen to the green, totally happy with it, even if its nearly impossible to see with the naked eye - but that particular picture makes me think of bacon or beef that's gone past its use-by date. However, below you can clearly see its a darker more moldy shade, closer to black or grey than a bright vibrant green. I'm not really very knowledgable about how light, colours, and photography works - so a happy accident on my part. For what it's worth, I love both the above and below pictures.
