Decisions

While I spend the next week or so highlighting the armour, I'm looking ahead and thinking about how I'm going to do other parts of the model. So I've turned to my test Marines to try out some ideas.

Firstly, the Aquila on the chest - my first thought was to do this in red, I've slapped a base coqr of Mephiston Red on, but I worry that won't stand out against the helmet. IMG_20230718_203241_edit_156476400033414.thumb.jpg.90c81c2d867b28c4c5002251204cbde8.jpg

Second idea - black. One coat of Black Legion Contrast - yeah, I think that's too dark, it doesn't stand out enough.

Another idea: gold. I almost dismissed it, as I didn't think it'd look right with the grey armour and red helm, but I think it's looking the best of the three attempts. Just a coat of Retributor Armour, but it's effective:

Next we have the punches, holsters and cuirass(es?) - first test was two coats of Basilicanum Grey; top dark, possibly:

Then Snakebite Leather (taking the traditional approach!

Finally, Screamer Pink base, but with (on the left) Basilicanum Grey, and on the right Nuln Oil; I did wonder if red-ish colour for these would clash with the red helmets, but I'm liking the one with the Basilicanum Grey on it the more I look at it:

Obviously these would get highlighted accordingly, but it's good to test, see what works/looks best, before making a final choice. Certainly better than trying something that I end up not being happy with..!

Anyway, back to highlighting the armour...:whistling::biggrin:

I agree with the fact that retributor gold looks better with the grey. For the pounches, I would say that most are OK - maybe doing a little bit of everything, just to get varationes from models to models?

Thank you for your feedback!  With regards to the pouches, because I tend to batch in colours/details when I'm painting multiple models (e.g. for a squad or squads), I'll likely do them all the same - though there's no reason why I might not vary between squads

They look cracking, great scheme! I'd definitely say gold on the chest plate. Snakebite or the pink+grey could work on the pouches... I think I you want one, I'd go Snakebite. It clashes less with the helms and it's a classic for good reason!

Have you thought about eye lens colour? I'd suggest maybe blue or green to pop against the red?

Thank you  Yeah, I'll continue testing the colour for the pouches, like you say, the classic leather will clash less with the helmets!

For the lenses, yes I'll go for green - I've been looking at the colour used for Blood Angels lenses, and green is the colour of choice for those - seems to suit red helms well
