New Year - Taking Stock.

Happy New Year folks!

Finally had time to sit down and write a blog post, so thought it would be an ideal point to look back on the previous year and forward to 2024 in terms of my hobby time:

2023 was a fairly good year in terms of productivity with painting, etc, but a bit sparse in terms of actual gaming. Last year I managed to paint 5 different kill teams with a 6th half finished, but managed to play zero games. I continued to expand my home brew Primaris chapter -The Nightblades which is now about 9000 points worth, but I now have more captains for them, than there would be companies in the chapter for them to command. I managed to get hold of the last  2 sets of the Space marine heroes ( the Deathguard and Primaris Kill team) which have both been painted up.

The new jump pack captain

My Imperial knights army nearly doubled in size with the addition of a knight lancer and a pair of warglaives. My Tau army has not really grown with only the addition of the kroot kill team and the Tidewall gunrig and droneport, that I managed to pick up cheap to complete my collection. The aeldari had a few new additions, some of which were 3d printed to fill the gap where we are still waiting for GW to produce new plastic models. I did pick up the Yncarne recently after seeing how good it was in 10th edition only to find out what a pain in the ass the model is to build.

My Deathwatch, Deathguard and Grey Knights are all fully painted and received little love this year, although the Deathguard are still unbeaten, with another victory in my last game of 9th edition back at the beginning of the year. I finally got to play my first game of 10th edition over Christmas against my usual adversary, which was a slow affair as we were both feeling our way through the new rules. I managed to come out on top, but the whole game seemed to hinge on the combat between my Brutalis dreadnought and his Norn Emissary, which was settled by twin multi-meltas at point blank range.

Final scores

Looking forward to this year my main aim is to try and get in a lot more games, I have been following a local games club on facebook for a while with the intention of going along at some point and another friend has been pestering me to join their Bloodbowl league. Hopefully I’ll find the time to join up and find some like minded gamers.

On the hobby side, I got a nice new arch lamp which should make painting easier through the darker months, but have a lot of unfinished models on my desktop. I have a habit of quickly assembling and priming models when I get them and then taking ages to actually paint them. Below is the list of what I have to look forward to this year before we get into any new purchases, such as the new Kill Team: Slvation boxed set which should be arriving next week.

1 x Ambull and critters (unpainted)

9x Blackstone fortress characters (unpainted)

1 x Clade Venenum Assassin – (Assembled, unpainted) -random xmas present!

As you can see theres a fair bit to do and I there is also a partially complete Catachan patrol boat I started as a project with intention of turning into a diorama after watching Apocalypse Now. as well as finishing of my Firstborn SM army - The Sons of Khan, which I haven't even opened the storage box they are in for a while. A few years ago I started an excel spreadsheet to try and keep track of thenumber of miniatures I have and their painitng status (does any one else do this?) and accoring to that I still have 56 marines to paint for that army. On the bright side though the spreadsheet also shows in now have just shy of 1500 models of which 88.7% are fully painted, which is the highest the percentage has been since I started it.

Anyway these are my goals for the year and whether I manage them or not only time will tell.
