From books to miniatures and vice-versa
Beyond my love for reading and writing, I like to build and paint miniatures, mostly 28mm scale models. Over the years, as I wrote the story of Cornelivs Maximvs I kept acquiring and building miniatures to represent some of the groups in books and some physical models actually influenced the characters in the books.
The army started with a small set of miniatures from Games Workshop that I decided to use to represent the miners from Airom, Septimus and also some of the gangsters from Rolauqs. This initial group was then expanded with conversion parts, characters and miniatures from Anvil Industry, which helped shape the core force in the books and in the miniature version.
My photography skills are not great, so please consider this before observing some of the following pictures related with the core members of Cornelivs force.
Cornelivs and Septimus side by side as they are on the battlefield.
Miners from Airom used vehicles to move through the largest tunnels. Cornelivs was able to find some of those vehicles in a storage area before leaving Airom and took as many of them along with the miners as possible during their escape.
Aulus on the left, leading his squad of explosive and demolition experts.
Ariel on the left and half of her squad.
The second half of Ariel’s squad.
Flavius (spotter) and Setorius (gunner), usually attached to Ariel’s squad to provide heavy fire against the enemies.
Cassius on the left along with the first half of his squad.
Aelius on the left, along with the second half of Cassius squad.
Some of the gangsters fighting under the command of Jelena on the right.
Some more of Jelena’s gangsters.
Faustina on the right and half of her squad.
The rest of Faustina’s squad.
The force in the books and in miniature form has grown since these pictures were taken and many more of those who fight at Cornelivs side have their physical representation.
This is a relatively good example of how different hobbies can complement each other and provide motivation to keep working through some of the less pleasant stages of each individual hobby.
