Rune Priest Sone Sharp-Sighted

This is the first unit I painted. He needs to be stripped and painted in the scheme I have finally settled on. His staff was put together before I heard or thought about pinning, it is now in 2 pieces. This will someday be repaired. Need to finish the melta pack, tda shooty pack, and lone wolf on my desk first

This is a reeally good start, not sure if you went straight in with fenrisian greay or it just looks really light for Fang.

Are you using GW paints?

My advice to you would be to give the armour a wash with either agrax earthshade or nuln oil. This will give the coulour a bit of depth. Do not put on so much that it puddles everywhere, but a nice even coat will also catch in all the recesses, showing up the detail and adding shadow to the model.

A flesh was for the face, and eiher the flesh wash or the sepia wash on the gods and you'll see a world of difference.

A really good start though, and kudos to the wife for helping out. Mine would rather gouge her eyes out with my paintbrushes than try to show any interest :)

Thank you. My wife is an artist in many formats and is trying to teach me how to paint. I'm using GW paints and that's Fenrisian Grey I used. Been looking at how to do washes but haven't taken the time just yet. This is my first model and the best of the handful I've completed so far.

I would highly recommend washes.

Quick and easy way to get depth into your models.

You'll have to get the missus interested in 40K too http://image.bolterandchainsword.com//public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png

Best tip and everyone says it, is thin your paints, and several layers at a time for a smooth finish

My wife isn't interested in most codex armies. Only only one she likes the look of is Space Wolves and she wants a different army from mine. I showed her some Eldar Exodite conversions and she likes those. I'm collecting bits for her to play with.

I'll have to look up ratios for thinning and try it. What exactly is nuln oil? My wife should have the ingredients for oil washes in her paints

Its a black wash. GW give all their washes crazy names, just like the paints.

Nuln oil, gryphonne sepia, asumen blue, ogryn flesh agrax earthshade etc...

It might be worth checking youtube for tutorials or look at Skeletoro's thread as he has been working with oils and can give you some insight. Practice on a test model or a bit of sprue before trying it in anger.

I like the Wolves purely due to the fact that I like norse imagery and the mythology, which is what drew me in. They also have aton of character too.

I hope she enjoys the bits you get for her. :)

It doesn't show in this pic, but the pack marking (same on all my priests) is supposed to be a symbol of Odin. I painted this one backwards though. It looks like 3 drinking horns half stacked on each other. Maybe I'll add that emblem to this folder. The TDA Wolf Lord I have here has a new weapon and is now a Lone Wolf. Working on a new WL with Wolf Claw & Chain Fist (based on Wolf Claw) and I do want to give him a wash as I find him overly bright. Maybe I'll get his pelts and trinkets finished tonight

You mean this?

Thats a really nice symbol to do.

What sort of colour are you aming for with your wolves? Darker blue grey like the wolve you see GW do, light wolves like you have done or Grey wolves?

Yes, I don't have the finesse to do it right yet. Thought would be good for priests. I started with the fenrisian grey. Have had thoughts of finding a different color but not seeing one that suits me better yet. I'm only 10 models into painting so wouldn't be hard to switch at moment. I like the lighter color, been thinking of mixing fenrisian grey with another grey to cut the blue some. My lgs was short on paints last time I went looking for mixing options
