Veteran Sergeant, Front View
This guy was one of my earlier attempts at the red highlighting on the black armour. This was done after the attempt at grey on the Captain, not using the dry-brushing technique that screwed that mini up. This technique still sucked, and from it (and from looking at others' techniques and a discussion with Renauld de Chatillon [sp]) I learned that I'd have to highlight in multiple stages, and use brown as the blending base instead of going from black straight to red.
You can see the bad basecoating from the black spray on this mini, which is one of the main reasons that I used him as a test mini for the red highlighting method.
The bare head was one of the key indicators I had for Veteran Sergeants and other characters.
The color scheme shown is for the Iron Hounds, the Chapter/army that later turned into the Marines Exemplar after How to Paint Space Marines depicted the color scheme. You can see the red aquila (barely - it's under the jump pack "straps") and the red hands (sort of based on the Crimson Fists, though the Iron Hounds were descended from the Ultramarines).
