  2. No problem, Brothers, to his credit, this YouTuber gives a concurrent conclusions summary, so I'll just fill-in on certain details: Army Rules: - losing advance & charge and Feel No Pain hurts - but +2 move being rolled into data sheets is nice - Dev Wounds fixes AP problem Detachments: - Berzerker Warband (+2 Strength, +1 Attacks ON CHARGE) likely to remain gold standard thx to damage buffs - Goretrack Onslaught (Khorne Klown Kar, Berzerkers can hop off Rhino, kill, hop back on) sounds fun w/ great objective control - Khorne Daemonkin (is back, 1000 pts can be spent on Khorne Daemons) is cute but Blood Tithes are hard to rely on Units: - Angron is turbo-nerfed - Eighbound being more specialised is interesting - (Unlike Emperor's Children) Helbrutes remain, in Goretrack Onslaught Detachment can walk through walls with 6" consolidate - Terminators are dead :( - Defiler has a cute party trick against deep strikers General Takeaways - Most detachments play staging counterstrike style very well - Way LESS emphasis on alpha strikes (he pointed out they made Emperor's Children the choice to hit fast, while WE hit hard) - Worried some Detachments lack damage output Just making it easier for those reading on a phone, etc. If you wish to view the video yourself:

  3. Some of my very first posts at B&C were my tutorial on how to give fantasy warrior capes to chaos space marine models. Given that its been 7 years and my approach has simplified somewhat, I thought I would redo it using the new EC noise marine models. How to bring your Emperor's Children from Fantastic to Fabulous 1. Clip out and clean up the legs and torso pieces of your EC model, as well as a fantasy warrior cape. You'll need the other EC bits later, but we won't worry about them for now. You'll also be needing glue to assemble the model, a hobby knife, a swaw and some hobby putty such as "greenstuff". Clippers can be helpful as wel, and some sort of shaping tool for the greenstuff (I use my hobby knife). 2. Using your saw, cut the back off of the torso with a cut immediately above the belt. For some models with pouches or other equipment on their belt, you may need to cut down around that first to avoid amputating it with your main cut. 3. Here are the seperated pieces. You can remove or thow out the back piece - we don't need it for this build. 4. If you haven't already, complete assemble the legs and glue them to the base. Here's a picture showing the backless model. 5. Cut your fantasy warrior cape just below the elbow, in to the walls of the "box" in the middle of the cape. You can cut a bit higher though the elbow (so as to avoid clipping the skulls on the back) but it will be a bit harder and will require removing the remaining parts of the elbow afterwards with your hobby knife. 6. Cut along the shoulder just outside the "box". If you clip the box, that's okay, it just makes for a harder cut. Stop when you start cutting the cape itself - a few small nicks won't be noticeable as they'll pretty much be hidden. I suppose you could skip this step, but it makes the cut in the next step much easier and more precise. 7. From the top of the cape, cut down along the score you made with the previous step. 8. When your vertical cut meets your horizontal cut, you'll be able to detach the shoulder portion. You may need to go back and cut a bit more horizontally if your cuts don't match. Clean up the edges of the cape along the cuts with your hobby knife. 9. Do the same thing on the other side. Note the skulls and rope on the back - we got lucky and didn't cut either of them, so its worth putting some extra care into the cuts on the side with those details to avoid them. Or, if you do trim them, you can patch them up or build them back later. 10. Trim off the bottom of the "box" - this portion will be hidden so doesn't need to be particularly neat. I like to use clippers because they are easiest and fastest, and that their cut is a bit "messier" doesn't really matter here. 11. Using a ball of greenstuff in the middle of the "box" on the cape, attach the cape to the front of the torse. Try to line up the two sides of the "bowl" for the head so that they are even - this may require you to clip a bit more of the sides of the "box" so that they fit. Don't worry about the slight gap unless its particularly massive on either side of the "bowl" - they will be hidden by the head. 12. Set the model aside to let the greenstuff cure. If you are building a batch of models, this is a good time to repeat the above process for the next model. 13. Once the greenstuff applied in the last step cures and you can handle the cape without shifting it around, greenstuff the back half of the shoulder "flats" that we removed with the back half the torso. After to you do this, prepare the arms and head to be added to the miniature. 14. Glue on the arms and head. 15. Trim off the portions of the shoulder pad that would protrude through the cape. Here, I've pointed the bits I trimmed out with the paintbrush - I trimmed off some of the rim and of the wings. 16. Mix up your greenstuff. Take about half of it, and shape it in a long triangle like the above. Starting with the base of the hole you cut in the cape, drape it accross the shoulder. 17. Cut the applied greenstuff in a straight line from the top front edge by the head down to the edge of the cape.. Remove the greenstuff on the outside of the cut line. The cutting may cause the greenstuff to bunch near the bottom or pull in weird ways - that's to be expected. 18. Smooth the greenstuff so that it matches the natural shape of the cape, paying particular attention to the outside edge and where the greenstuff meets the plastic cape at the bottom. This may require you "thinning" parts of the greenstuff by cutting it away, or adding more to fill pits or gaps. For me, other than the cutting of the cape, this is the most time consuming portion (and fiddliest) portions of the build. 19. Do the other side, but its best either to let the greenstuff cure first, or take extra care not to press on the first side and distort or destroy your previous work. 20. Let the greenstuff cure, then make a small "sausage" of greenstuff along the edge of where the "fur" portion of the plastic cape ends. 21. Using your tool, shape the "sausage" of greenstuff into a fur type pattern, trying to match (to a certain extent) the fur on the plastic cape. Once done, do the same on the other side, taking care to not squash your just competed work. 22. Put a ball of greenstuff on the back of the back pack for the model. 23. Put the backpack in the desired position - this may require some shifting it about. Once you are done, shape the visible greenstuff used to attach it into more fur. And there you have it - a fabulousized noise marine. This also works well with tormnentor & infractors, as seen by the photos below. If you are using this method to do tormentors/infractors, I like to glue their grenades, pouches and other belt items on at the last step - that way they don't get in the way for the rest of the build. One final note, the fantasy warrior capes may need some adapting where one leg protrudes behind the model, as is the case for two of the noise marines. Those models will require you to a) forgo the cape, b) use a cape from a different source what flares out on the side with the problem leg, c) tilt the fantasy warrior leg so that it clears the leg, but realising this will effect the angle of the cape around the head or d) trim the portion of the cape that interferes with the leg and rebuild it with greenstuff. Hope this was helpful, and I look forward to seeing your fabulous EC, even if they are tragically capeless.

  5. And you could just play the game with tokens rather than flavourful painted miniatures. There's a difference between paying 2cp to place your models down from deepstrike, and having them ride in a tin can fired down from space. One is overly gamified the other is actually fun.

I mean, once you start down that road you might as well only play on TableTop Simulator, because why pay potentially hundreds of dollars to buy models that you just use to roll dice at other models, when you could just roll the dice without paying.

A command squad, Mortis dread, A master of signals, Librarian Gamaliel . heavy weapons and support squad. Finally a shot of the entire force minus false sangunius.

I've finished 2 new Magii today, and it has been a good opportunity (excuse) in order to take new pics of my coterie of Adeptus Mechanicus priesthood members. Cawl leads the charge. Followed by 3 Dominus and 3 Manipulus: Lesser priests include Archeotechnologists, one of which is kitbashed from the Engine Seer plastic model: And 3 Engine Seer, including a FW Makrotek and a Priest with a Mining Laser, kitbashed last year: Finally come 2 Marshals: So, who's missing here? Or rather, will I fill up the ranks or not? Sure I will, but not too soon; plan is to get an Arxiarch as a third Marshal and an Heretek as a third Archeologist. A single Skatros will eventually join the frey. But all these models on the wishlist of mine are more for feeding up my addiction rather than model I need to fill an army rooster niche.

After 3 weeks without touching anything related to the hobby (because of home invasion by relatives - OK, 2 weeks and a half only), here comes my April's pledge once completed: Next step is painting the dwarves in the background. These are on the workbench for more than a decade and it is high time for me to work on that side of my pile of shame too. I will come back to 40k once these squattish lads will be done, a matter of 1 or 2 weeks. Just in time for pledging in may! More pics soon in my blog.

Emperor can't be forgiven...not what he did to Angron and a number of the other primarchs that could of been stopped by him just saying what the plan was and no...Bill will get no forgiveness of any kind in this lifetime or the next, not within this canon nor fanon. May his dice roll 1s and his super glue only stick to his fingers!

  25. Another update from Valrak, here’s a brief summary from what I took away. - Space Marines Codex 2.0 is definitely coming, Valrak thinks it will be the last codex of 10th and then lead into an end-of-edition narrative book series. - The pictures on the roadmap are specifically for the new Marine characters, which are the first things we will start getting. He confirmed the expected characters: Vulcan for Salamanders, Lysander for Imperial Fists, a jet bike character for White Scars, a terminator character for Iron Hands, and Raven Guard is still unknown. - Refreshed Assault Terminators are definitely coming and Valrak thinks they are coming with SM 2.0 (he may have outright said that they are coming with the 2.0 codex, I couldn’t quite tell if that was speculation or confirmation) - Multipart outriders, a new Land Speeder, and refreshed Vanguard Veterans are also for sure coming. He’s not sure if we may see some or all of these in 10th, or if some might be coming in 11th. Personally, until he confirms otherwise, I expect Van Vets and the Speeder are probably coming in 11th. I could see multipart Outriders at either release. - Here’s the big one: GW *is* working on updates to at least some of the tracked Marine vehicles, without any confirmed specifics. Valrak speculated about the Rhino and Land Raider. We shall see. Finally, he thinks we will start seeing some of these things at the May preview. I can’t wait!!!

  26. I collected these a little bit ago, partly accidentally, and partly due to the monopose=unposeable argument that comes up on here occasionally: They look reasonably different and dynamic, right? The interesting this is that they're all made from the same body: The same part# torso and legs components, with just arm swaps on the scorps, an very minor cutting on the exarch to fit the special torso. 2 min job overall.

  27. I keep coming back and reading through this thread and see sawing on my own opinion of the matter. I finally arrived at it this morning. my hobby is primarily a converting and painting one, and has been since 2nd edition 40k. I’ve bought, chopped and glued miniatures from most ranges from most eras. 1. I love monopose miniatures. Oddly the constraints of them have resulted in my favourite modelling projects. And 2. I love multipart kits. the sheer abundance of bits I can use allows for 1. But the actual poses I can make using them is limited in their realism. (I am a dancer and many of the poses often result in strange contralateral movements) I would love to see a mixture of both types. The new kits often don’t have the quantity of alternative heads/ arms/ weapons/ gubbinz that I would like but they do offer excellent starting points.

  28. This guy. He came out with the 5th edition codex in metal and later got the Finecast treatment before being replaced with the plastic one which I think a lot of people believe was a downgrade in terms of design, including myself.

  29. "I always thought iron hands were cool" vibes lol. I remember back in 5th, one guys generic marine collection would pivot to the newest codexes rules with a terrible representation of their special unit. Generic assault Marines that were "obviously" death company for his "obviously" blood Angels. And then space Wolves, where he glued some marine upper bodies to chaos knights (from fantasy) to make "thunder horses". He had real stakes in faction conversations, that's for sure.

Update: 5 hours’ work this evening and 5 tanks done: The pintle mounts snapped off both the Chimera and the Leman Russ in my painting haste, but to be honest I think I am going to leave them off. I feel they look a bit wrong anyway, especially when the heavy stubber is nearly bigger than the Chimera turret! I’ll clip down the mounts at a later date. Just the six artillery crew remaining. Modularity vs cost

As a bit of a counterpoint to the “look how easy it is to convert the new models, just a bit of cutting here, a bit there, arm from this guy, legs from that guy etc” I do get that. It’s not all that much harder and takes a bit more practice and skill, and the extra effort can be more rewarding. However, I want to bring up one thing I haven’t seen expressed really that is the potential cost of conversion. With the old system, kitbashing was easy but more importantly for this angle, it was relatively safe. Yes poses may have been relatively limited etc, but you could use arms from 2 different kits, legs from another, head from a fourth and body from a 5th kit and make a unique character armed the way you wanted without any cutting necessarily required. A few kits bashed together would pretty much always get you as many marines as legs in the kits allowed(I always found legs to be the limiting factor) with useable parts to spare in your bits box for the next kit you got. Meanwhile today, converting a monopose character with parts from other similarly designed kits has an element of risk that it may not have had before. Not only am I potentially ruining a figure I just spent 40+ canadian pesos on, I am possibly cutting up needed parts for that 5 man squad I dropped 60+ dollars on, which I didn’t check before I started cutting and can now only make 4 of, hope I can find parts to make a 5th guy somewhere in my bits box. If I do mess up the conversion, I could end up with no character and a useless squad, squandering my very limited hobby budget completely. Considering that acquiring the needed skills for the conversions in the first place will likely ended up with a few pieces being ruined this can add up. Now gw has limited this somewhat by either fixing completely or limiting squad/character loadouts, so you don’t have to kitbash anymore, whereas it was somewhat expected before with the marine range through 5th to 7th ed. If you do want to make your stuff unique, it’s not only harder and takes more skill, it can make the hobby even more expensive than it already is even after you get comfortable with chopping up ridiculously expensive little folks. This can make it more intimidating to start with, for folks with small budgets. So yeah, previously I could buy a captain kit, a 5 man kit and and a tac squad and make 16 figures. Now, there is a larger than I am comfortable with chance that If i don’t build em as shown On the box, I will not get 16 figures, and if I really mess up, end up with not enough dudes to fill the squads and no character to lead them. For me, I have enough stuff that I’ll likely pass on before I get through my backlog, but it’s still a concern I have when buying the new kits and very likely would put me off the game if I were starting out, instead of 20 years plus and only half done my 3rd company and assorted hangers on (sunk costs and all that, I may still have a pile of shame when I die but if I haven’t completed my company I swear I’ll be back to haunt whoever inherits my collection :p ) Anywho, just some thoughts from the peanut gallery. I don’t have a coke habit because I don’t have the money for it, and the changes to the way kits are made now make the already getting beyond reasonable plastic habit just that little bit more expensive, and that’s why I don’t like the change personally.

  42. Maybe off/side/semi-related topic. I love Valrak as much as the next person, but why are we assuming this is anything new? Emperor's Champions, or whatever the plural is of Emperor's Champion is, have always had visions of the Emperor, iirc there was one that saw Sigismund in Haley's Black Templar stories, etc, most of the time during prayer before a battle (as noted again in Valraks video, the second screenshot). I know Valrak lives and breathes primarchs, fair to him I say, but I can't see how this is new?
