  3. So Recently i had the opportunity to play Stargrave with my Local group of Friends and ultimately we had Decided that we loved the ruleset but also genuinely loved the 40k and Necromunda Aesthetic and Rather than learn another game we made the decision to combine the 2. As someone who's always played imperium forces i decided that this was my opportunity to go against my norm and chose Genestealer Cults, converted from Cawdor Models, using 3d printed components and Minor Sculpting i came about my 10man crew and even set about Creating the Gaming board 4x4 of densely populated Abandoned manufactorum. The first game we played was, Brutal to say the least. Here's the Crew/Gang Leader: First mate: Gunner: Sniper: Hacker: Chiseler: Runner: Recruits: Grenadier (If i feel like swapping out the Sniper): Striker (using the Giant Blooded profile from Frostgrave: I really tried to sell the idea that the Abberant model is swollen and bruised using a series of magenta and Cyan inks to suggest his existence is mostly painful More Posts coming soon with terrain.

  8. Just wanted to say hello and happy to be here. Played as a teen in 90s, been out for about 25 years , and the lore and painting brought me back. I’m member of FDNY ( New York City fire department) and a fellow friend on job got me back into painting first. I find it really helps with mental fatigue and load from the job. Live in apartment, so mainly interested in playing Boarding Action for 40k and Kill team, though goal is to slowly but surely build my painting and modeling skills. Currently painting Dark Angels and Khorne 40k, I like to mix it up and not burn out. Thanks for taking time to read this.

I have finished my first War Hound tac squad. Going for early/mid Great Crusade look with armour types and minimalist decoration. We have been told both the WH and WE didn't stick to individual armour marks so I've tried to reflect this by giving them a mix.

  11. As long as it doesn't detract from the 'real' WHW and GW doesn't forget where they came from. I really don't want Warhammer to become overly 'Americanised'. Nothing against America, from my experience they are a lovely people, just it is nice to have a bit of choice.

  14. WD222’s “Last Stand at Glazer’s Creek” is still pretty fondly remembered almost thirty (!) years on. Four linked missions of the newly-created Praetorian Guard regiment defending a small farm from the ravages of Orks in a narrative that was more than just a slight nod to the old war movie, Zulu. The late and lamented Paul Sawyer commanded the Guard, while Adrian Wood brought his own Ork army mostly comprised of Gorkamorka models - which, unbeknownst to us readers, was a preview of the radical re-design that the greenskins would undergo in 3rd Edition 40K just a few months later. Brilliant models and terrain, a great little story driving the games and writing that showed real personality. Might still be the best battle report ever put to WD’s pages.

  15. Valkia the Bloody

    January

My plan for 2026 is to concentrate on finishing what I started and holding back on buying new stuff. Seriously, I still have all the elite marines of the Indomitus box just assembled and primed so far, so buying a new starter box with marines is surplus to requirements. My overall plodding along vow will include working on the 4 Kill Teams that are already sitting here in various stages of completion (30k Night Lords, Nemesis Claw, Fellgor Ravagers and Mandrakes), I would like to finish the Tyranid army that I started in 2025, I really should get some paint on the terrain that is sitting here and as a special project I would like to built, convert and paint a Night Lord knight (I already have the Imperial Knight box here). There are also more than 50 (!!) Night Lord affiliated models sitting on my shelf (characters, cultists, raptors) and of course the above mentioned loyalist marines and also some Heresy Forgeworld models (Sevatar, Khârn, Garro). As you can see, I already have enough models here that need work. So here goes: I, Valkia the Bloody, vow for the year of 2026 to finish at least some of the already started projects and at least try to resists buying any more shiny new boxes before having made some progress on the backlog. As a concrete vow for the month of January, I vow to paint 5 lictor-esque models for my Tyranid army- the Deathleaper, Neurolictor and 3 Van Ryan's Leapers. I have already started on them and we have another holiday coming up Tuesday, I hope I can make some progress. I also finished my first model for 2026, Valkia the Bloody, possessed human pet of the leader of my Night Lord Warband- smaller raids she is allowed to lead herself. They are a pirate warband, so the armor she wears she had stolen after killing the previous owner in a sneaky ambush.

  17. Ok, gonna post the video here: And gonna do the recap here: After the Maelstrom starts the Eye of Terror campaign There is a big box called “Lords of the Maelstrom” (speculates on it being just Red Corsairs) Combat Patrols, one of them is for Leagues of Votann: 10 model vox with strategist, 2 squads of steeljacks and one squad of hearthkyn pioneers Battalion boxes for Eye of Terror for Imperial Knights (speculates on it being the rumoured Questoris Knight), AdMech (skorpius disentegrator, chicken walker, dune crawler) Coming back to the Iron Hands combat patrol (1 warpsmith, 5 havocs, 10 legionnaires, 5 terminators, and the upgrade kit), insists on no Iron Warriors HQs coming Next-next book is Armageddon Deathwatch getting some love with a new combat patrol (corvus blackstar, 10 aquila marines, no HQ) Talks about Boole (some day TGA is gonna ban him) the post where he talks about more epic heroes for eldar, orks, and nids Valrak adds that he has a source on nids, that it is the Red Terror. He has “a hint” on the ork HQ being pirate shenanigans, doesn’t know about the eldars

  19. Said it plenty of times on here but I think they erred when they deleted the 200 year timeskip set up in the original release of the Dark Imperium novel. They could have set so many neat stories and campaigns in that timespan, which is to say *narratives with a proper resolution* like Vraks or Badab, while also moving the status quo forward/filling in the history of the Indomitus Crusade. This whole "every campaign is set in 'the present'" thing has always struck me as misguided because it rests on non-existent tension. "Oh no, angron is back!!! Could this be the end for the Imperium of Man?!?!??" Uh no, I don't think it will be Keep your scenarios and stakes local, which is to say system or (sub)sector level. Set up interesting localities and scenarios like Badab, that people find interesting and want to perhaps explore/live out in their own games. The best 40k media, in my opinion, is the stuff that fleshes out a particular place, with it's own culture, quirks, variations on established factions, etc. Dark Heresy's calixis sector comes to mind, an absolutely fantastic setting. Ecclesiarchy? Sure, how about a unique sect in the form of the ascetic followers of st drusus while we're at it? I'm rambling, but I am frustrated with the direction 40k narratives (and the setting as a whole) are going in, with no sign of even a slight change in course. In my bitterness I find myself wishing the horus heresy novels never existed. I think too much HH rubbed off onto 40k.

  20. Painted the character conversion I showed off here last spring - here he is: This is the "meme" 3-pistol Exultant conversion I did mostly for the LOLs. I intend to use him in a variety of roles - for now, as a twin screamer Lord K until the actual GW model becomes available for sale again, possibly as an Exultant after that, and as my Cypher stand-in in my CSM army... that's why I went with the split colour scheme, the hooded head and the sword on the back. The model is more static than I might like (more Last Man Standing than Hard Boiled, for those familiar with those movies), but I'm still pretty happy with him.

  25. I hope the codexes retain the rules or there's a paper version. I struggle with working out combos and ramifications when it's digital. I find it far easier to be able to read hard copies of stuff. I understand why people want everything digitised now but I'd wager that there's a fair chunk of people that's still like hard copies.

  30. The 95 corridor, which DC is on, is the most densely populated part of the country. DC is small, but NoVA is huge and has millions of people. DC also has the most resources for foreign travelers like a high number of hotels with multi-lingual staffs in languages besides English and Spanish. It’s got two major international airports and believe it or not, the last of our actual trains that go places. You can also get cars with minimal fuss. DC itself is very small, and there’s no chance they can afford to put it there so they’ll put it in NoVA if they’re smart or Maryland if the person spearheading this doesn’t believe in going somewhere to check it out before making multimillion dollar decisions.

  33. Well that explains that then! Quite a convincing edit, though I will say even aside from the eye being on the wrong side, that power claw is far too small! Either that or Yarrick got absolutely yoked between Armageddon Wars so he can bench-press Ghaz. "Zog me, you'z gotten big!" "Says the ork whose base has more than doubled in size since last we met!" "...You know wot, dat's fair, kan't argue wiv dat. I'm still not sure wot ol' Grotsnik wuz finkin' wiv da serjery. "You'll look so intimidatin'!" 'e sez. "You'z gonna be da biggest, baddest boss in da galaxy!" Well dat's all very well an' good, but I kan't fit in me battlewagon now! Zoggin' skale kreep..."

  35. It has been a while since I posted - both in general, and specifically in this thread. It's good to be sort of back. Motivated by the B&C Legio challenge, I got back to working on some Black Marines. While not Templars per se, they are Firstborn and black so I think it's not a stretch to post them here: And here are some closeu-ps on my first stabs at an OSL effect - the primary light source are the wires and claws: I didn't want to overdo them - I figured that the energy field should be subtle - hence just hints of it on the gold, knuckles and just some suggestions on the skull, sides of knees and tassets.

  36. Yeah, absolutely agree with this. The rumoured Armageddon supplement is a perfect example of what could be a cool thematic look at the 2nd/3rd Aramgeddon Wars; one of the key historical events of the 41st Millennium, and one that I've got a lot of personal nostalgia and enthusiasm about. +The appeal of Armageddon+ There's a strong narrative: Ghazghkull's rise and attack, his first defeat and return; and his personal rivalry with Yarrick. A modern take on that could be amazing, with space for Orks, Imperial Guard, Space Marines (particularly BA, SW, UM, Salamanders and Black Templars), and also Leagues of Votann. Just picture it – character kits for Yarrick, Tu'Shan, Nazdreg and Mad Dok Grotsnik; Mark VII upgrade sprues and splash releases for Marines; kits for Steel Legion infantry and command squads... ... but as it is, I'm expecting the narrative to be slightly frustrating; retreading the broad strokes but not building on them, and focussing on stuff that's cool, but not really to do with the 'Orks versus the Guard on Armageddon'. I really like Yarrick as a character, and agree that his being killed off felt weird, but prefer that to him being reincarnated or dragged out a third time. He was pointedly an old man during the Second War of Armageddon, but he's a symbol more than a genuine threat to Ghazghkull – the Ahab to Ghazghkull's great white (void) whale. If you want a new Yarrick figure, build one properly. Look at how the character was developed, rather than dressing a new model in a corpse's robes. A talented Steel Legion character stumbling under the weight of expectation to 'be the new Yarrick' is far more compelling than 'that guy's son/daughter, who is just like that guy'. Apart from anything else, it'd be a great tongue-in-cheek nod to the audience – no-one's going to live up to Yarrick in-universe, so why not play on that out-of-universe for a bit of fun with the fans? The key thing is that there's still loads of room for innovation right in the material as already told – there was an entire orbital war that gets a few vague mentions. Ork Gargants fought Imperial Titans. The Officio Sabatorum and Templars Psykologis got their first (and so far only) mentions there. Ork Blitz Brigades and the innovations and advancements of 'Orkimedes'. There are entire continents to populate with warring troops and events. The Steel Legion, despite appearing in (presuamably) all four wars, have languished untouched since the days of white metal. How about a new Chimera – or a fleet of ork tanks? +Brave new worlds+ Beyond my personal hobby horse of Armageddon, I actually quite like the fact that the narratives usually trail off in GW's events like this. It's narratively unsatisfying not to know whether Cadia fell or the orks conquered Armageddon, but that's rather the point. GW's expansions used to live in a setting, where the expansions and events were a call for you to answer the questions of who won, what happened and how. Whether characters lived or died was down to us, the players. With an evolving timeline, that's not a good option. GW have proven with Age of Sigmar that an evolving setting can work (albeit with its own problems), but 40k seems caught in a situation where GW want to have their cake and eat it – and its this that's causing the lack of perma-death in 40k. Personally I prefer the setting approach, but I think the horse has bolted on that. For me, the best balance would be to have the expansions, events and supplements focussing on particular worlds or regions, with everything laid out like historical wargaming: 'such-and-such happened, so-and-so died – but here's your chance to see if you can do better, or explore what-ifs.' These would have their own unique characters – the sort of splash release which GW seems to do with things like the event exclusives or made to order – who you can use in other games, but are understood to have lived and died in one particular region and period. These special characters should emphasise the character, not the special. Prince Yriel, the Tyrant of Badab and (more recently) Haarken Worldclaimer and Titus are great examples of characters that feel like they can drive a world-shattering story, but don't really have a place in deciding the fate of the galaxy. Meanwhile, the ongoing 40k Grand Narrative should be less character-focussed, but provide a backdrop for these focal areas. Genuine immortals. mythic beings and galaxy-wide players like the Primarchs, Silent King etc. would have a good place here, but should stay largely out of the stories in expansions, events and supplements. They are 'big' enough not to need introducing in the same way as 'General One-world' does, and have an excuse to turn up wherever and whenever GW wants, and weather the storms of an ongoing narrative – just like the playable gods (Nagash, Teclis etc.) in Age of Sigmar do. They are great archetypes of factions, but overshadow anything that individual players or gaming groups do: you might kill Tycho, but you'll never kill Guilliman. Ghazghkull was a great character: an ambitious boss who may or may not have started hearing the voices of his gods after a bolt shell pulped part of his brain. He never needed to get bigger than he was on Armageddon. It doesn't improve or expand his character in a meaningful way – and the difference in narrative between Ghazghkull's earlier incarnation and his current one reduces his character to 'bigger and nastier'.

  41. Honestly I kinda (respectfully, emphasis mine) disagree. Kinda. I would like to see an "Imperial Cold War"- not a full on civil war, but rather the Lion and Guilliman having some serious disagreements on how to proceed (though not to the point of coming to blows), which loyalists of each Primarch take to ridiculous degrees and blow out of all proportion. As a result of these tired old men being treated as gods, this snowballs into elements of the Imperium closer-aligned to one of the two Primarchs coming into conflict, albeit usually as an indirect cause- one side will refuse to aid another side over the schism, leading to some form of retribution that will escalate into a small localized conflict, which the Primarchs will try and defuse... with little success. It'd be an interesting set piece for something that ISN'T a huge flashy apocalyptic mega war, and also provide justification for intra-Imperial fighting.

I wouldn’t expect a factory to bypass tariffs. they’ve already been challenged in court, and even if they last his whole term chances are next president will end them, and I doubt tariffs will cost the same as building and running a whole new factory in that time period making a new US factory financially silly of it’s just to avoid tariffs.

Argh, clubs, what is this tech heresy, Why can't I see what I'm trying to do? (end old man fumbling). For plodding along (should we have a separate tab/thread/doodad/whatever it's called for plodding alongs?) I have my two: 1 - Complete all LI stuff I owned at the start of the year (and the bits I failed last year). This is: approx 3/4 of the large industrial terrain box 3 Malcador Infernus 4 Leman Russ 8 Sabres 1 Saturnine bulk box And the 'true' HH scale Solar Auxillia Leman Russ. 2 - Stop collecting unpainted kill team stuff - this is paint a minimum of six things more than I buy. Each team or terrain set from a box or stand alone team counts as one. For January (as I doubt we'll have any undercoating weather in time to achieve anything) I'm just looking at finishing off the in flight terrain bits I didn't complete January and then getting ahead on the builds

So they are a little big for that pad. Some thin sections (like the Vultures neck) certainly add to the difficulty level for me right now. Too many years away.It will get better.
