A look in the rear mirror - a 2023 Hobby Perspective
Bouargh posted a blog entry in Bouargh´s miniatures´ closet clean-up
Hi Folks, 2023 has been, from a modelling perspective, one of my most productive year. I talk of all aspects of the hobby, except gaming itself (as I barely aligned my armies, all systems considered, more than 3 times). While looking back in my attempts to clean my Closet and beat my back-log, I think the results and achievments are great. Let´s see the stuff of past year, following an order that is not necesary chronological nor developed based on any specific criteria of relevency: - Gorka-Morka Miniatures: painting the miniatures from the base game plus a Nob I had there. These Gorkers (or are they Morkers?) were waiting since 1997 - Saim-Hann force: something close to 1700 pts (under current edition) of Aeldari painted during the mid year Site event. The first minis dated 2000 or so and were largely untouched. What that already had a coat of painting has been repainted fully, except the Wraith Lord - New Year/New Army - some 2250 pts of Adeptus Mechanicus bought, assemblied and painted at what is likely to be my highest standard to the date - Terrain - kept on using some of the numerous bits of my bitz box to increase the range of home made terrain for a Ashland table - Revival of my ooP Rhinos - Repainting of these venerable models in order to fit in with the rest of my SW - still have some chassis left that need to suffer the same treatment though... - Started a blog and put 50 entries within. Yet, I still have to increase the quality to attract more traffic and comments. - Gathered almost al the extentions of Carcasonne and play it a lot, as well as playing to Agricola..... Gosh, this is NOT hobby related, but this is where I spent most of my play time... Although I planned to do other things, there is a series on stuff I planned but, in the end, did not do: - Adding Rangers and Jetbike scouts to my Saim-Hann Force - Play more - Adding a Freeblade to my AdMech force - Play more - Do my Own decals - Play more - Take a family picture of my gathered SW Great Company (1st born only - circa 18k pts 40k) - Play more - Legalize my DW army - Initiate my wife to 40k and play more In a nutshell, a productive hobby year with a lot a variety and diversity in the models, and some deep (understand tremendous) impact on my Backlog, that is now close to zero miniature remaining in the 40k range. I initiated as a second phase the decluttering the EPIC related stuff (colour testing only so far) and the WFB one (3 minis painted in 2023, from the Dark Shadow Specials, which is low but more that what I did over the past 10 years). Gaming wise, well, I played more in one year that over the past 10 years (without the forced break of COVID). So 3 games is low but it is somehow a kind of milestone too... May be should I print a T-Shirt with this tagged on it??? I planned (wishlisting level) my year 2024. We will see if it sill be as fruitful as 2023 and if I can get close to zero stuff waiting to be painted -
Greetings, my fellow chaos followers! As you probably have noticed, the influence of Grandfather Nurgle is spreading throughout the world. And what better time to take care of that big pile of various shades of grey that is populating our wardrobes, attics and other storage places. As such, I was thinking I could have a little event with this. The premise is pretty simple. Do you have "that old project I never finished", or a squad that has been basecoated but never really finished. GET IT DONE! The event will be live for from 1st of April to the 31st of May and you vow one project at a time. At the end, you'll get a fancy badge for your signature depending on the number of vows you have finished. Pictures will be needed for "before" and "after". So how do you finish a vow, I hear you ask? Well, the only one you're competing against is yourself! As long as the project clearly has been improved upon since the start, it's valid...within reason ofc. *Got grey sprues you need to assemble and paint, that's fine *Got grey built models that needs paint, that's fine *Got basecoated models or models with basic colours on them, that's fine as well. *Got models you're unsure of, PM me and I'll take a look. Now, this is a very much improvised campaign that I thought about as I have been recovering from the big C, so the badges aren't done yet... But they will be... Oh, and it will of course be open to all the areas in the chaos subforum.
