- Executioners: End of Penance - http://i.imgur.com/QX0cZZ9.jpg So 8th edition is the first time I've honestly been excited for an edition of 40k. To mark the occasion I wanted to start up a new army for 8th, and though it took a while of pondering what to do, I ended up on Executioners, the unsung badasses of the Badab war. Pretty sure that fluff-wise the Executioners are almost done their 100 year penitent crusade (hence the title) too lazy to fact check. I have about 3k of Executioners slowly being built and prepared for the new age. First squad I got done were these Terminators: http://i.imgur.com/hBADdtj.jpg First Terminator fully complete http://i.imgur.com/83XEqs9.jpg The Squad beginning to take shape http://i.imgur.com/Y1nBZbq.jpg http://i.imgur.com/pFAG7ax.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9929qYY.jpg I was influenced to add hazard stripes both from old-school Ultramarines Terminators (the termie power fists) but also of course from Iron Warriors. When I started painting up silver marines I pondered ways to make them pop and add depth, Iron Warriors were the only other silver marines to use as influence. My hazard stripes are there to a much lesser degree and I'll be looking at other ways to give personality to these guys down the road. After all we're proud Sons of Dorn! Just recently I finished part of my Assault Squad, 5 done 5 to go. http://i.imgur.com/pUe2ju2.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uOT49GU.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9sRy9MO.jpg http://i.imgur.com/SMZz2tH.jpg Executioners Colors/Organization So there are a couple ways Executioners mark their marines. Generally everyone is silver/metallic, with bronze power pack and face-plate. Occasionally a marine will have a bronze shoulder insert (perhaps a mark of honour?). Terminators have yellow shoulder pads and black helmets. Sergeants are shown to have a yellow shoulder insert on the right shoulder pads (I'll be doing both pads for my Sergeants/Veterans because I like symmetry), as well as yellow paint over their upper helms. It's not explained in depth so I'm adding yellow helmets/pads for all sergeants and veterans (Sternguard/etc). This info is based on the artwork of the Executioners during the Badab War. Here are the pics I'm referring to: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Executioners#Gallery Metallic Blue vs. Metallic Silver So one thing people constantly ask is "aren't they metallic blue?" and to be honest I'm not even sure. The earliest uploaded pics showed Executioners as a metallic blue, but the more recent scans I found show them as classic silver, as does their short story Death Speakers. The silver is more Spartan, fits their personality more, so that's what I was happy to go with (also looks more brutal imo). http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/7/7b/Executioners6.jpg this is the famous metallic blue... Yet these are from another scan and the short story Death Speakers by Andy Smillie... http://i.imgur.com/2y2gXhg.jpg http://www.blacklibrary.com/Images/Product/DefaultBL/xlarge/Death-Speakers.jpg P.S - I'd highly recommend reading Death Speakers (the only Executioner story currently) Andy Smillie please write more Executioner stuff! Starting on a vanguard force for fun. Mantis Warriors primaris using the old Badab War tranquil campaign camouflage. Step 1: Pink primer, white zenithial, pink ink from underneath. Step 2: Two layers of indian yellow ink. I'm trying to do a grasslands/savanna camo pattern but I'm really not sure what I'm doing...
