Hey all, So a couple of weeks ago with the impending release of new chaos space marine models I though I'd give my Word Bearers a break and start a new army to fit with the new scaling of the coming models. So, I eventually settled on Red Corsairs. I'm going to aim for a melee focused force that is swift moving and powerful on the tabletop but more importantly fits with the lore of the Red Corsairs (which thankfully melee focused and fast does!). I'm going to aim for a battered and makeshift look on the models that I think befits what are essentially renegade pirates, with lots of scavenged loyalist parts and the like. I'm going to gradually expand the army and probably write a bit of lore as well. Anyway, I painted up a test model with my new colour scheme so I wanted everyone's thoughts on it: Overall I'm pretty pleased with the paint scheme and I'm especially pleased with the GW snow effect. I'm not sure about whether it looks weathered enough though - I painted some battle damage and spattered a bit of blood but I don't know whether it's enough. What do you all think?

So I bring this up because it's become the catch all for the Traitor Astartes no matter the background. As someone who went armpit deep in Red Corsairs, and then Crimson Slaughter more recently this appears to be the spot where we can review the codex and tactics. I wanted to see Kranon back even though Traitors Hate was quite cruel to them. I actually really enjoyed their story and very unique twist on Khorne and Tzeentch mingled into an unlikely blend that created the Slaughter. But they ( and the Corsairs) don't feel flushed out enough losing all that character and being lumped into a category. Dark Raiders is the army trait of all the 'Renegade' Chapters, and confers Advancing and Assaulting in the same turn. Out of curiosity who is firing these guys up again, or considering starting them? If so what angle or approach are you considering to he army?

The scouts aren't new, but everything else is. Yeah, the test marine doesn't have the traditional black / red scheme of the Red Corsairs, mainly because I think it looks a bit rubbish. What I'm gonna do instead is sculpt / paint extra armour plating, paint the original armour the silver of the Astral Claws and paint the new stuff red. I also used a lot of check patterns because the 80's were awesome. Uh, that's it. The photos are a bit gnarly, but I think they get the general gist across. Death to the false emperor etc.
