Psythu
The less like helmets and the more like real lizard heads they look the greater the fear it would strike into the hearts of their enemies. Above all else, they fear the wrath of the space marines! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/111490-salamander-terminators/page/2/#findComment-1375750 Share on other sites
Undertaker
I can't believe I've missed these! They are awesome! The heads do look like mutant heads though... Durus
I like the heads. One way or another. If you want them to look like real heads, they are great. If you want them to look like helemts you could try to add some extremely thinned glazes of boltgun/chainmail/mithril or any other metallic colour you like so that the flake will give the heads a metallic sheen (gold maybe because they are elites :tu: ). I have seen this a few times and it looks pretty good in person. The problem is that it is hard to photograph... so you will have to try it out yourself or find someone who paints this way in case you want to see examples  . Another possibility would be mixing the metal colours with your normal colours (i.e. green, red...). My brother did this while he was trying to come up with a paintscheme for his necrons, and it looks surprisingly well (and it looks completely different than inking...). Maybe metallic eyelenses would add to the appearance of a helmet (even though i don't really like the idea myself :pinch: ) Ah well, I like what you have done. And there is no need to change anything if you are happy yourself with the way they look. Psythu
Another update! Finished terminator number 3 late last night, so here it is for you all. http://img461.imageshack.us/img461/5855/squadmalleopipmontage4ftl6.jpg Base is a little messy, might tidy that up later. None of them have the lenses on their shoulder mounted... things... painted yet; I'm going to do them all at once when everything else is done. Ekkanus; Thanks for the compliment! Deathwing70
they look great, the constrasting bone shields and the dark red head/helmets make a difference. Like all im not really sure about the heads but keeping in mind the Salamanders are masters of the forge, I dont think its hard to believe they could pull it off... There has been 'weirder' stuff around these forums :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/111490-salamander-terminators/page/2/#findComment-1376392 Share on other sites

Patrick O)))
I really really like them :( To get around the helmet thing, maybe have vents/pipes going from the corners of the mouth into the neck of the armour? Some kind of breathing apparatus Otherwise, awesome Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/111490-salamander-terminators/page/2/#findComment-1379683 Share on other sites
Psythu
Last one done, although despite being the serg he's my least favourite. I don't see any point showing you the sides/back, you already know what they look like. There'll be a post in Hall of Honour later with these, including group shots. http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/1396/squadmalleopip19forumskd8.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/111490-salamander-terminators/page/2/#findComment-1379696 Share on other sites
Pyriel
Scales: -Use thinner GS layers. -Try to use only or as many 5 and 6 corner scales as possible as those are the natural shapes and not 4 corner scales. More corners is not "natural" but looks more organic then 4 corners. -After the scale pattern is done but before the GS cures use something flat like a knife blade to carefully "flatten" the scales. It will make the finished scale look less "bumpy". Examples of my greenstuff scales using these techniques: Forgot to "de-bump" the scales on this part and thus they look to rough: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Pyriel/Greenstuff/7.jpg Also to rough scales on this shoulder: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Pyriel/1st%20comp/TERM2.jpg Although still to thick green stuff layer flattening them will produce more smooth scales like these: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Pyriel/Greenstuff/termie-shields.jpg Painted up: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Pyriel/1st%20comp/DSC00232.jpg Finally, thin and flattened out greenstuff scales with many corners will produce the best results like on my vet sergeants: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Pyriel/Greenstuff/1CM.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Pyriel/Greenstuff/5CM.jpg As for lizard terminator heads: I use a sculpted on head on my HQ instead of having the normal head switched to a lizard head. It gives the terminator a lizard look without having the mini look like a mutant-ish-kinda-sorta ;) Here is a wip: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Pyriel/Greenstuff/helmet1.jpg Keep it up dude, we need more great looking sallies out there :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/111490-salamander-terminators/page/2/#findComment-1711040 Share on other sites
