Daeothar post 2:

OK; so I was a bit preoccupied with real life issues tonight. Good ones, very good ones as a matter of fact, but I'm not doing a Slaaneshi entry here so we'll skip the details for now...

I did find the time to do something I hadn't done in a long time though; isolate myself with a trusty HB pencil and a sheet of A4 paper and do some rought sketching. I decided I ought to make a bit of a visual guideline for me to follow when building this entry, so in roughly 45 minutes, I scratched and scribled till I had this:

http://www.fierylions.nl/Pictures/ForumPictures/XIII/SketchXIII.jpg

The concept is still roughly the same but for some small details. Small details which effect the background quite a bit though. As I was pondering over the concept of decay and how to visualise this without going the sores and goo road, I realised decay does not have to be limited to the body and or soul; it can affect the mind as well! So, siing the route I'm going with this guy XIII anyway (visually I mean) it seemed to fit that he would not be corrupting and decaying the bodies of his victims but rather their minds. The more sane and analythical the minds, the greater the intellect, the sounder the mind, the greater the pleasure of turning its owner into a gibbering maniac. Slowly decaying the mind until only a frothing madman remains, totally insane, all traces of the former person competely gone. In some ways, this is even more frightening than the rotting away of a pestulent body, in which the owner still is his own self, despite the ravages of his physical being.

Now to find the bitz required to build and convert him. Wait. Did you hear that too? Those whispering voices. I swear I heard them again... :)

OK, that damn cat was outside AGAIN this morning. Annoyed, I proceeded to dropkick his furry butt about 25 yards. Oddly enough, he landed on his feet, looked back at me, gave me the finger and strolled into the woods...

With that annoyance removed for the balance of the day, I got quite a bit of modelling done today and have my final pre-prime WIP pic.

I am loving this guy.

He will be modelled in the pouring rain, so check back often as Joker gets woefully out of his depth with advanced painting techniques!!!

The US release date for the Chaos Army Box is set for September 9th. Yikes! That doesn’t leave a whole lot of time. I even have some RL vacation schedules to content with as well. Perhaps more should be done ahead of schedule in preparation for the blessed event.

Now that so many others have shown their hands the deck must be stacked accordingly. The time has come to act and my actions must be decisive!

Mark my words: *Wrings hands together in a manacle fashion.* The Death Guard will not remain silent for much longer!

Elijah post...next.

Interesting week. Upped the meds a bit in an attempt to get sleep. Put together figure, and it actually came out the way I wanted it despite missing tools for working on the greenstuff. Slow and ponderous, the fig is the Pepe' le' Pew of Chaos figures. Half fantasy fig, he has a huge sword in the right hand and a pistol in the left, and looks like he doesn't have to run to track you down. He will get you sooner or later....there is no escape. Pics taken, and will post later.

Squirrel and Cat spotted in the backyard. I think they have moved in somewhere close, as I seem to be seeing them a lot. I'll have to ask the wife if she is feeding them.

*edit - fuzzy pic added. Dang squirrel kept throwing black walnuts at the window, disturbing me.

Minor work last night, I primed Curze and his base/tower with Testors© Model Master Flat Grey Primer. The spray left a bit more of a shine than I was happy with, so I sprayed the entire thing with Dullcoat. It's ironic, now the entire model looks like fresh Citadel plastic.

I have company tonight so I don't know if I will get any work done, but I'll try to start on the masonry.

welll I've had my model built since just before the contest offically started and have been at a loss at how to paint it. tonight while going through some old data disks I found some artwork i did for a freind while goofing around and for what ever reason it looked good to me so after playing with the new chaos painter I think I'm gonna paint my entry like so

csm.php?bpe=FF7B00&bpj=E7BD42&bp=FF7B00&bpc=FF7B00&bpn=E7BD42&hdt=E7BD42&hrn=FFFFCC&hdm=FF7B00&hdl=FF7B00&ey=31639C&er=FF7B00&pi=E7BD42&nk=FF7B00&ch=FF7B00&abs=FF7B00&bt=FF7B00&btd=E7BD42&cod=FF7B00&ull=FF7B00&lll=FF7B00&lft=FF7B00&url=FF7B00&lrl=FF7B00&rft=FF7B00&slt=E7BD42&sli=31639C&srt=E7BD42&sri=31639C&ula=FF7B00&lel=FF7B00&lla=FF7B00&lh=FF7B00&ura=FF7B00&rel=FF7B00&rla=FF7B00&rh=FF7B00&ri=E7BD42&tr=E7BD42&bg=000000&rb=E7BD42&gr=E7BD42&

I think my freind may even remember the artwork peice I was talking about when he sees the color theme.

should be interesting to do med_gallery_1805_634_39527.jpg

in that theme. now I just gotta figure out the flesh.......

Barret Post Numero Uno

I've had this guy around for a while, since my stalled attempt at a biggerized Corsairs kill-team, so I figured now was the perfect time to actually get something done with him. I'm going to paint him as a traitorous Crimson Fist, just because I've been listening to the Nick Cave cover of "Red Right Hand" a lot recently.

but I still have alot to figure out

Solid basecoat Neph. :teehee: I'm assuming that's either Bloodangel Red or Blazing Orange? From both, highlight up towards Fiery Orange and from there, go to the highest highlights of almost pure Golden Yellow for the edges etc.

The blue, you can highlight all the way up to Ultramarines Blue, with extreme highlights having white added. I use UM Blue as the basecolour actually, shading and highlighting from there.

Of course, lots of gore and red streaks, maybe grime, soot etc as well can break the orange a bit and make it look less cheerful/wholesome.

Great work so far; I especially like the chaos banners/cloth on the shoulderpads with the skull and partial chaos symbol. Very cool!

No news yet I'm afraid, I've been too busy painting other things (not related to this board)

I have been looking into choosing skin colour for my beastman though, but I haven't been able to decide on what I want, yet.

Daeothar post 3:

Time for a Tzeentch of plan!

As I was rummaging through my bitzbox, trying to find inspiration for some minor parts to go onto the base for XIII, I came across an old Thousand Sons marine. I've always loved that sculpt and came to own one by chance through a large bitz buy some years ago. He's been gathering dust since (how ironic) but no more!

Because of circumstances, I won't be following through my plans of attending Games Day UK this year, opening up quite some extra time to invest in my entry for this contest, as the Golden Daemon entries can (and will have to) wait till next year. And since that's the case, I want to put in the extra effort and try some new techniques on this guy. Not only will I be using NMM but if all goes well and I don't chicken out, OSL will make a first appearance in my painting too!

So not much in the way of converting but all attention will go into the paintjob. And given my long standing reputation for using the old and OOP stuff, it's only fitting I'll be taking on this particular mini. See; I told you from the get-go that things could radically Tzeentch midway through; don't blame me...

The idea is that he will appear to either be appearing from the chaos symbol on the floor, having just been summoned or be present at a summoning. I like the first one best. I was toying with the idea of elevating him over the symbol on a vortex of Warp energy made from metal wire and putty but I'm not quite sure yet.

http://www.fierylions.nl/Pictures/ForumPictures/ThousandSons/TS1WIP2.jpg

The book and skulls will be surrounded by candles, probably burning with green flame, illuminating the marine from below in a (hopefully) ghostly light. If he were indeed hovering over the symbol, I'd move it into the middle of the base and adjust the location of the other items somewhat too. What do you think?

first up D man your old school t son is bad ass. I would go for the summoned more then summoning but thats just me.

as for my entry here's some more wips

I added part of his old chapter badge, did some work to his mutation and added some other fiddlely stuff but still have lots of stuff left and I hate camera's like mine as the paint isn't near as think as it looks. not sure if I like the mutation might change it but on the whole i think its progressing

not sure if I would call it finished but atleast now I have time to look at it on adaily basic and see if I'll change anything. but thats always a good thing time. ask Daeothar even he'll say time is always good. oh well here's pics till the contest entry ones themselves are taken or I change something.

thanks

Cut'n'pasted straight from my blog 'cos I'm lazy and pressed for time:

I know, I know, it's been more than a while since I posted anything here. I admit it, I'm as bad a blogger as anyone out there :pinch:

Still, this is an update and with pictures too!

Bad, blurry pictures, but pictures nonetheless:

Contest Entry Raptor

med_gallery_385_727_119823.jpg

By my standards he's barely basecoated but it's starting to come together. Slowly.

I'm pretty sure I've overdone it on the colours, too many reds and greens and yellows on the cables and grenades and whatnot, but hey, what else was I gonna do? I always do the cabling in odd colours, I like it *shrug*

Other than that like I say there's barely a basecoat on this guy so I still need to shade and highlight and so forth. Below is another blurry picture of the weird 'mouth' on the Raptor shoulder pads, I quite like it though:

gallery_385_727_2268.jpg

For those counting that's somehow the end result of 12 hours work. I think I may be the slowest painter on the whole board sometimes, I really do ;)
