@10:15PM, Australian WST....

Just spent what i assume has been the past hour hacking up bits and pieces of plastic and arranging them together for my entry. Now up to the GS phase of the night. So far things look pretty ok despite how everything has just been a random assortment of bits and pieces, although there are things i'd like to change for future minis for sure.

Not sure how well things will go in terms of PAINTING the model, but i'm still confident that i can make the Oct 1st deadline

(that or be driven insane).

number6 entry 2

I am soooo outclassed by you people. Remind me again why I decided to enter? Is embarrassment good for the soul? I'm really impressed, AR, Rags, and OMG, just to name the most recent photos I've seen.

Well, for what it's worth, I manged to finish painting at about 4:45 this afternoon, quickly slapped together a base (40mm!), and had some (poor) pics taken with a cell phone in the waning light of the evening hours.

I never could figure a way to fit the familiar in the contest piece, but I did go back this evening and finish off that base properly and also paint the familiar. I like this version much better -- even took pics of it -- just couldn't enter it in the contest.

Good luck, all!

So all the GS work has been done (although i wouldnt exactly say done well, note to others, GS is not something to be rushed). All that is left is the painting stage and a nice WIP pic. Mini turned out ok, although it could have been better. Hopefully with a decent paint job it will still turn out a-ok.

And entered!

Some dodgy last minute basing and some truly awful lightning strikes on the armour and the mini is done. In all honesty I ain't terribly happy with it, I'd redo 70% of it if I had the luxury of time but at least I completed this version in time to enter it

You'll see the pics soon enough and it oughtn't be too hard to recognise, it's one of the few metal minis in the Mod contest and I think it may in fact be the only straight-outta-the-box model too, everyone else seems to have cool plastics or GS'd masterpieces or at least debris on the base. But not me, it's a mini, some paint and some sand for the base. Keep It Simple, Stupid! That's what I say...

The Warp take you! (or me, as it is)

Despite trying to rush it at the last minute, I've failed the Dark Gods.

Real life got in the way and what little time I had left over to paint, was spent trying to figure out how to paint 'Slaaneshi pink' skin - something I quickly realized that I'm not very good at.

Halfway through, the planned colour scheme fell short as I hadn't taken the black fur versus black armour into account.

Panic and frustration ensued and I found myself left with half a painted model.

I really should have kept it simple, lesson learned.

PS. I'll post a picture later today to show you how far I got.

Not too happy with it, although it still looks ok, there were a few things if i had the power of changing now, i would (so ill have to remember this for future models)

However there is my Aspiring Sorcerer in all his "glory".

Now the fun bit.. Painting... ;)

those pack exhaust seems to big.. but overall is a nice model.

Yeah, the exhausts were a lil bleh to me as well. Next time im either cutting off more of the backpack OR using a smaller SM backpack.

Of course now that its 7PM, i have no idea if ill make the deadline. Mini is undercoated and after a slight accident with the black (way too much came out, so i had to spend some time under coating another mini so it wasnt wasted).

Still keeping my fingers crossed though. However if i dont make the deadline, thats fine, i have yet to make a deadline for a contest as it is :)

No good!! Although i'm glad Foundation paints dry quickly and easily, with less than hour to go to both finish painting AND take pictures AND submit them..... Well, unless i want to go back a few years in painting skill, i'm going to have to kick in the bucket now. I'm already pretty annoyed at the paint job already, and thats not even TOUCHING on the metals (suffice to say i feel like a pre-schooler painting the metals). Although the model looks a lot better now with some paint on it, i'm far from happy with it.

However i will try and get this finished for the end of the week :)

++EDIT++

Well, I have been informed that the fat lady isn't singing JUST yet. However unless i want to paint solidly until 6am and still go to work, i'm pretty sure i'll be setting that fat lady up.

However here is a pic of how far i managed to get, and if it wasnt for the fact that i have work tomorrow, i would actually try and finish it!

Aurelius Post 7 (Final)

After a weekend of progress I am done, and with an unprecidented five hours to spare!

The lightning claws, wings, piping and all the other sundry gubbins are done. I even had time for a base in the style of a small flight of stairs, which has been constructed, painted, and scattered with the spoils of the battlefield like shell casings, skulls and a tiny chaos shrine.

Then I took pics of it and somehow managed to obscure half of the detail I had been working on... David Bailey I'm not! :( In the spirit of not revealing everything I will hold off on the pics, but keep an eye out for them in the competition. ^_^

In any case, I got a characterful miniature that I really enjoyed creating, and I have tried techniques that I had not done before. Good luck to everyone else that has entered, or is madly rushing to finish, and I look forward to seeing all of your pictures when the competition gallery comes up.

Aurelius.

Well, as usual, I managed to get into gear just that little too late and predictably, my entry too, has not been finished in time... :pinch:

However; I will try and finish up tomorrow evening, as I've not come this close to leave him unfinished for who knows how long. So, while the iron's still hot, I'll be banging away at it. Unless things Tzeentch dramatically, I should be able to get him finished before the end of the week.

Dang my warped sense of time...

Anyhow; in all his unTzeentched glory, mistakes. unfinished gold and all:

Bear in mind that the lighting took away all semblance of depth and blending in the gold; there's 5 layers/blends on there already; almost done there. The blue is just a basecoat though...

Sent mine in a while ago. I might try to take better photos tomorrow, I'm not happy with them at all. The pose is very sweet and vicious in person, I think the photos lack depth. I've always loved the idea of Night Lords with actual crackling lightning coursing all around them. Overall I'm happy with the model though, I've wanted to do him for a long time now.

Here's the WIP:

The rest are in my pBase there and will be posted up with the other entries when they go live.

number6 Entry 3

Disqualified! :) Apparently, the Disc of Tzeentch counts as a Daemonic Steed, and therefore ... I broke the rules. Ah well. It's not like the mini -- or the crappy cell phone pics I entered -- would have made it a competitor.

However, for those of you who were curious as to what it is, here's the "ultimate" version I made, on it's appropriate large base, with the familiar.

Zosimus, Sorcerer of Tzeentch
