I can't show you right now (*) but it reminded me of the shoulder markings of the Alpha Legionnaire on the cover of Dan Abnett's Legion. ;) (* - simply because I didn't save a copy of the pic in a format that would allow me to quickly correct it and don't have the time to modify the file right now anyway) I'm sure a talented individual, like Scally for example ^_^ , would make you a far better version of this symbol quite easily... It needs a bit of fleshing out, IMO, and since you don't have a homeworld to ramble about... Plus, I think you could come up with some neat torch-ceremonies pretty easily.
