My Land Raider Variants (PV?)

Funny you should say that Jwave. I've ordered on 28/01/08 from a parts seller from America 4 Plastic Plasma Cannons and 4 Plastic Multimeltas for £12.00. He advises that he shipped it on 06/02/08, but I'm still waiting. Once i get them, I don't think it should take to long to make Twin Linked Plasma Cannon and Twin Linked Multimelta sponsons. I'll take pictures when I do them.

Regards, Brother Morgan.

PS My next project it to make a Command Prometheus Land Raider using the Large Eagle Doors from The Sanctus Imperialis Kit as the front door. I plan on turning the tracks around (so that that the front is at the back). This will make the Front of the tank look more upright and will give this more of a real tank feel (a la WW1 tanks and also others I've seen on this website). Lots of City of Death sprues will be added to the Spaced Armour to make it more gothic and to fit into my Legion of the Dead Chapter.

Just a quick update on my Skull Land Raider. I haven't been in the mood to do any modelling over the last 2 months (very busy in work). I have found time to complete the Spaced Armour and have now undercoated the whole thing.

Here's a front view showing all the skulls that will need to be painted!!!

Ever since my first son Thomas was born 2.5 years ago, I haven't picked up a paint brush. With another son due any day now, this will go on the shelf with all the million other projects I've done and will eventually get painted.

Looking pretty damn sweet. This style of LR with all those extra bits would be perfect for a LR conversion I'm planning to do for a dedicated Chaplin transport. You know from a hobby point of veiw.

COD ideas stolen. cheers Brother Morgan.

I also know what you mean about having no time really to paint or do much modelling, as I have a nearly 10 week old daughter.

do you have any idea how awseome that is?

  • 3 months later...

My second son has just turned three months old, and I am slowly finding time to get back into my hobby. I have bought two more Land Raiders cheaply from ebay and have also used my christmas present Land Raider to start making 3 heavily converted Land Raiders. I thought now would be a good time to show what I've been doing.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/IMG_4226.jpg

I intend to use this as a Prometheus with extra armour. It's about 90% finished. I've made good use of Sanctus Imperialis Cities of Death sprues and lots of plasticard.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/IMG_4222.jpg

I plan on using milliput to "weld" the figures on the mudguards and make them more part of the vehicle. I also plan on using milliput to make the holes in the tracks disappear.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/IMG_4223.jpg

This is a plan view showing the Imperial Eagle. This has has been sculpted out of various different thicknesses of plasticard and I've attempted to make the edges look beveled using milliput at a 45 degree angle. I just need to score out the tail feathers and then this piece will be complete.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/IMG_4225.jpg

This is a side shot showing the extra armour with an Imperial Eagle sculpted again out of various bits of plasticard. I'm not to sure what to put at the front. Should I leave it alone or add something? Suggestions would be appreciated.

This is my second conversion. This will a Land Raider Ares and is again around 90% complete. The front vindicator cannon will be magnetised, to allow hellcannon, battlecannon etc swops when required. I'm still working on how to attach the dozer blade to the front of the vehicle though.

This plan view shows the tracks that go all the way around the model (very similar to WW1 tanks).

This is the second Land Raider I bought on ebay for

This almost makes me regret choosing Blood Ravens as my new army haha. I can't even field that with that chapter even if it's no problem ruleswise.

I have to say: you really like landraiders don't you?

A very very very nice job!

Another timely update on my Land Raider conversions (nearly a year since the last ones!). Here are some of the things I've been working on.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20090831_20.jpg This is some reinforced armour for a future Land Raider. It is made from various thickness of plasticard and the Eagle's head has been sculpted from milliput to give a more 3D effect.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20090831_23.jpg This is an example of how it will look on a Land Raider.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20090831_22.jpg Here is a WIP of another reinforced armour. I've just got to finish the bottom Skull to complete.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20090831_25.jpg Here is a 3D skull I've sculpted out of milliput. This will replace a rear hatch in the future.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20090831_30.jpg

Here are all of my options (so far) for sponsons that will be magnetised. These include:

Vulcan Mega Bolters

Executioner Plasma Cannons

Twin/Quad Plasma Cannons (2 more to get)

Hurricane Plasma Guns

Hellhammers

Demolisher Cannon

Twin/Quad Multi Melta

Hurricane Melta Guns

Battle Cannon

Twin/Quad Heavy Flamers

Quad Storm Bolters (1 to get)

Twin Assault Cannon

Missile Launcher

Twin/Quad Autocannon

Twin/Twin Hurricane Bolters

Twin Redeemer

Hurricane Flamers

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20090831_34.jpg Twin Twin Hurricane Bolters. I just need to expand the brackets of the sponson to allow them to fit.

Here are some more turret idea's:

Twin Redeemer

Executioner

Vulcan Mega Bolter

Missile Launchers

Finally, I'm slowly buying parts to build a Land Raider with a Volcano Cannon. I'm waiting for bits from America and can't wait to start!

As usual, any constructive comments would be appreciated.

Another yearly update. Doesn't time seem to fly when you start having children!!! My boys are now 4.5 and 2.5 and I am slowly getting time in the evenings to engage in my favourite part of my hobby - converting parts to fit land raiders!!

Here are some progress shots of my recent love:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/Philsmobile002.jpg

I have spent many hours making lots of skulls (generally from milliput, but sometimes with green stuff) and have slowly started to cover the whole of a Land Raider. So far, I have completed both sides of extra armour and have just started to go over the top. My plan is to cover every millimetre of flat surface on the model with skulls. Here is a close up of extra armour for the right hand side:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/Philsmobile005.jpg

The image below is another project I have started (I promise that in the next year, I will finish ALL my projects that I have started and get to around 80% complete before I have another great Idea and move on forgetting to finish what days before I HAD to finish!!)

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/Philsmobile008.jpg

The skulls have been based upon the base of the Fortress of Redemption Kit. The milliput has resulted in quite a grainy finish, so my plan is to do this all again with green stuff when I get enough time and greenstuff to complete.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/Philsmobile015.jpg

The image above shows the progress of the skulls on the top of the Land Raider. It also shows a WIP Executioner Plasma Gun Turret at the front. I still need to smooth out the rear part with milliput and it will be complete.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/Philsmobile017.jpg

The image above shows an almost complete Twin Redeemer Cannon front turret. I still have to work out how to attach the cover over the top of the guns and again, this turret will be complete.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/Philsmobile019.jpg

This picture shows my magnetised Demolisher Cannon Sponson. I am thinking of attaching plasticard at the back (to look similar to the Mk 2a Land Raider Sponson). I have also made a magnetised Executioner Plasma Cannon to fit the same sponson:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/Philsmobile020.jpg

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Brother Morgan.

I demand to see a land raider with Huricane Plasma Cannon Sponsons with a Hull mounted Twin-linked Vulcan Bolter, a Turret mounted Twin-linked Havoc launcher (multiple missle launcher, forget the actualy name) and a turret mounted Twin-linked Assault cannons!

That aside.... B)

HOLY CRAP! I'm a bit of a psycho converter, but I think you've got more conversions on that single tank then I have in my entire collection. Can't wait to see more.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/IMG_2989.jpg Hellhammer Turret with PM MM and PM SB, Twin Linked Autocannons and Quad Linked Heavy Bolter sponsons

My first thought was overkill, but then I remebered, there is no such thing as overkill.... ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

An update:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100828_18.jpg

This project has almost driven me mad!!!! I have spent an average of 2 hours most nights for the best part of 3 weeks getting as far as this. I have no idea how many skulls are on this model. Here are a number of different angles:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100828_17.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100828_16.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100828_15.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100828_14.jpg

I plan on adding more skulls around the cupola's and then on the top of the sponsons and on the top armour on the heavy bolters. Should only take another week!!!!

Just to complete the skeleton theme, I am also in the process of adding a bone on each tread. I have made a mould of the largest section of tread and the first attempt is satisfactory but not as good as I thought. I plan on making a smaller mould and hopefully the results will be better.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100828_19.jpg

Hope you enjoy!!

Regards Brother Morgan.

  • 5 weeks later...

After 5 weeks of sticking skulls on my Land Raider, I am happy to say that I have FINALLY FINISHED!!! Apologies for the picture quality - it doesn't matter what I do, I nearly always take a picture that is out of focus! Anyway, enough writing, let's see the completed model:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100928_61.jpg

Here's the "Skull" tank (Any ideas about names?) kitted out with Executioner Plasma gun Turret and Quad Heavy Plasma Gun sponsons. I now plan on using the "bone" tread on all future Land Raiders, to tie in with my Legion of the Dead Space Marine Army.

Here's a plan view kitted out with Twin Redeemer Turret and Twin/Twin Redeemer cannon sponsons:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100928_64.jpg

Here's a side view of Quad Assault Cannon sponsons:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100928_56.jpg

I also plan on using the Adepticus Mechanicus style logo on all future Land Raiders on the engine/exhausts:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100928_58.jpg

What do my fellow tread heads think?

I have now started my next project a Shadowsword/Land Raider hybrid. I'm sure I can make up some background fluff to explain why at a certain time in the past my Chapter needed the extra fire power to take down an all powerful enemy, so a very helpful Adeptus Mechanicus with support from my Chapters Tech Marines built this:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100928_67.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100928_69.jpg

I plan on having the treads going all around (which will again take forever due to the one mould I have!). I want to incorporate some fans and vents under the main gun with more vents and some skulls on the vertical walls at the front. I also wish to build some form of barrel support (a la real Self Propelled Guns/Tanks). I have come to a halt whilst I await 3 packets of milliput to arrive in the post.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100928_72.jpg

Here's my new power plant/engine/exhausts to power the massive power needed to fire the main weapon. I plan on using an IG Basilisk plough on the back that would dig into the ground to stop the tank from moving backwards after firing (something I have seen with real Self Propelled Guns/Tanks)

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100928_70.jpg

Here's a side view of the model with my Eagle Extra Armour I have previously made. I have attached magnets so I can vary which extra armour can be attached.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20100928_73.jpg

Here's a bit more progress on my extra armour I have shown previously. I just need to add some further flames shooting up towards the left of the armour to complete this.

Hope you like! Any comments would be appreciated.

my god there magnificant! Loving the skully tank. Heres a name to use the "Grim Reaper" pattern Raider. Or better yet use the "Executioner" since that the style weapon it has. Or the great khan's chariot (head taker with lots of trophies).
