My Land Raider Variants (PV?)

Hate to burst your bubble, but the LR Helios already exists - 'tis a Forgeworld Conversion kit:

Helios

But the heavy assault Raider is superb! Me wants one. Me wants one NOW.

Thanks everyone for your comments. In answer to Paladin7221, I already have the FW Helios conversion kit from years back. I'm in the process of making out of plasticard structures to house Whirlwind missiles (both varieties) and Hyperios Sponsons. Once I have made a bit more progress, I'll post some pictures. Just imagine missiles on the sides and top and a CCW such as a Heavy Bolter Turret.

Chapter Master Ignis Domus: Interesting idea "Deffrolla". Shouldn't be hard to make, just lots and lots of milliput mould making!!

I get some of my inspiration from the FW models, which is why I will be making Land Raider versions of the Medusa and Minotaur also.

I have almost finished the hellcannon. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

I have a lot of bits ordered from America which are yet to arrive and am also waiting on rivets from Titchytraingroup and new tracks from Blood and Skulls Industry. When I get these, I can quickly churn out a couple more Land Raider conversions. If any one has any other Land Raider conversion ideas, let me know.

Regards, Brother Morgan

Rivets from America have arrived:

Finally finished my heavy assault Land Raider. All rivets and hatches have been added.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/P1010201.jpg

I quite like the back to front look and can see me coming back to this design in the future.

To projects new:

Rivets have been added to my hellcannon. You can see the bear bones of the construction of the Land Raider. I plan on constructing a cradle out of plasticard to rest the barrel on. I'm dithering about making a blast shield (similar to the one on the volcano cannon). If I do so, I think 3D flames is all I will do around the edges of the hellcannon.

Some thoughts:

1) There will be a (imperial Guard) plough added to the back to prevent the vehicle moving to far back with the recoil after firing the mighty hellcannon.

2) Thinking of adding the firing platform at the back of an Imperial Guard Basilisk to allow room to load the huge shells that would be fired. I'm toying with adding doors that could be opened to see the breach and the inside of the Self Propelled Gun, but I think that would be too much hard work!!!!!

3) Have the exhausts mounted towards the front. This will allow room for loading at the back and for the plough also

4) The Land Raider will have wrap around tracks. I'm working on 2 designs at the moment:

i) Winged skull

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/P1010206.jpg

ii) Skulls!!!!

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/P1010208.jpg

I am making slow progress on making enough tracks of each. I'm siding with the skulls. What does anyone else think?

Finally, when I've been clearing up my computer, I found this photo which I hadn't previously posted. Enjoy!!!

Started another mini project today:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/P1010213.jpg

Rather than wrap the tracks over the top as usual, I widened the 2 parts of the Land Raider track unit with small parts of plasticard and then used Machinator's Opressor Pattern 1.0 tank treads.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/P1010215.jpg

I love these treads! They are so vicious! I just need to complete the other side and think of what the rest of the Land Raider will look like.

Here are some shots of the Hyperios/Helios/whirlwind sponsons I've finished:

Personally I prefer the oppressor pattern tracks to the skull ones. However I can see replicating them is harder than the skull tracks, what with all those spiky bits... ;)

Thanks Olisredan. I have changed my mind as the skull tracks are not coming out at a sufficent quality for me to put them on this tank. The winged skull tracks on the other hand are coming out really well and I think I will go with them.

Thanks Machinator, praise from you is highly appreciated! I love your work! Any progress on the Dark Angel Fellblade?

It's just plain EPIC! I literally dropped my jaw (no kidding). I looked through all the topic and I demand MOAR!!!! You should probably start your own conversion kit line with all that awesome ideas of yours. I want that skull-raider as a convertion kit. Just imagining one as a deathwing transport with all these skulls. Awww... But, personally I would break quite monotonous skull pattern with bigger skulls or maybe some plaques or even simply bones. Bone rims would look nice IMO. Nevertheless it's EPIC!

Update on my hellcannon Land Raider:

Front shot

Close up of the front armour plates

Plan shot

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110522_62.jpg

Rear shot showing Basilisk platform. You can just make out the dozer blade underneath the gun platform to stop the Land Raider moving to far back with the recoil on that puppy!!

The milliput doors are where the ammunition is fed through. I plan on making a FW sentinel to load the ammo in the future.

The large open panels in the plasticard are where a baneblade grill will be (hopefully hinged!!) to act as both doors for the Adeptus Mechanicus to get into the vehicle and also as a source of light and to allow fellow modellers to see the interior. The sky lights will be filled in with clear perspex to allow you to see the interior.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110522_63.jpg

The engine and exhausts have been fitted underneath the platform and behind the dozer blade.

Here are some shots of the interior:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110522_66.jpg

The Adeptus Mechanicus are removable for ease of painting as is the rear section:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110522_67.jpg

To be completed:

Front: Want to build a large vindicator like storm shield. I imagine 3D milliput flames all over the front, with a large Imperial Eagle/Adeptus Mechanicus logo on the reverse.

Sides: Create plasticard armour. Plan on placing a 3D milliput skull at the front of the armour pointing towards the front with plasticard/milliput flames trailing behind. In a change from the norm, the sponson will be placed in the rear fitting and I think I will only use 1 Predator Heavy Bolter sponson as the weapon. I think with the size of the main armament, there wouldn't be room for lots of ammo. The Heavy Bolters are there purely as a defensive weapon.

Toying with adding stabilisers ( a la JCB's) to the sides to assist firing the cannon. What do you think?

Rear: Ladder to get onto vehicle. Hinged doors. Clear perspex window.

Sentinel: Got the FW (Aliens like loader) kit. I seem to have lost the legs from the Sentinel and I'm in the process of trying to get these from a bits company. Then need to create the shell that the Sentinel will be carrying. Any ideas of the shape/design would be appreciated.

Future projects:

Twin and Triple barrelled Shadowsword. Weapon bits purchased.

Twin barrelled Basilisk. Weapon bits purchased. Bit like the IG Minotaur.

Fellblade. Shadowsword and Baneblade bits purchased. Not sure of weapons payload though.

Regards, Brother Morgan.

Not much progress this month.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/1-1.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/3-1.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/2-1.jpg

Tried to make the flames go around the nooks and crannies of the skull and coming out of the eye sockets and cracks in the skull.

Single Heavy Bolter was used in the sponson as a defensive weapon as previously posted.

Started to build the shield. Don't know if I will use it or not. I'll post a picture tomorrow and see what you think.

Started to build twin Shadowsword cannon mount. Almost finished. Need to get another cannon to make a Triple Shadowsword weapon. Post twin weapon tomorrow.

As promised, here are some shots of the Storm Shield I've built:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/Philsmobile025.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/Philsmobile024.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/Philsmobile026.jpg

I'm not sure about the shield to be perfectly honest. I may just go with flames over the front and up the sides of the inside tracks. What do you think?

As mentioned yesterday, here's a twin Shadowsword Cannon:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/Philsmobile027.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/Philsmobile028.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/Philsmobile029.jpg

When my parts come from America, I plan on making a third barrel that will be attached underneath the 2 barrels by magnets to allow me the option of double/triple barrelled Shadowsword cannon. I will need to make another Land Raider to fit this, but I HAVE TO FINISH MY HELLCANNON BEFORE I MOVE ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This whole thread is full of WIN!

Iam glad that some have different oppinions on that.

Lol, nothing wrong with a space marine chapter that has a bit of vehicle customization ork mentality, otherwise known as VCOM... Its the totality of modification that impresses me. I don't need to say what I don't like, or even what I do, only that its full of win even if impractical and uneccessary.

Thank you for your feedback, even those that have given "constructive" comments. To ensure I made the Hellcannon Land Raider even more tackier, I have added more skulls and flames to the front of the Storm Shield:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110710_80.jpg

I have attempted to make the flames a bit more 3D with them going around and over the few skulls I've placed at the bottom of the shield. The reason I use plasticard/milliput to make/sculpt flames is that when painted, I believe a more realistic impression will be given than just painting it on a flat surface - Each to their own!

To finish the front off, I just need to sand the milliput around the edges (blending 2 seperate plasticard pieces together) and I'm thinking of adding some small FW etched brass Imperial Eagles on the front edge of each of the 4 blades.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110710_81.jpg

I have attached the Storm Shield using parts from the IG dozer blade and magnets to aid in storing. To finish the rear view, I have 43 rivets to attach around the edge.

Something else I'm working on

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110710_82.jpg

Frag Cannon sponsons! I've chopped the top off the Dreadnought weapon, added a washer inside to allow my magnetised sponsons to work and then filled it flush with milliput.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110710_84.jpg

I've completed another Frag Cannon to be used on the other side. Note to myself, brush off all sanded milliput off parts before taking photo's!!! This involved a bit of chopping and lots of milliput. The plan is to extend the sponson to allow twin Frag Cannons per sponson.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110710_86.jpg

View from the front.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110710_94.jpg

I have purchased a further 5 Frag Cannons from bits providers: 2 to be made into sponson weapons, 2 to be converted into a turret weapon and 1 to be kept as a dreadnought weapon. Before any one comments, these have been bought over months and on average, cost around

Almost finished my Hellcannon Land Raider. Here is the 80% finished Sentinel that will be used to load the ammo onto the Land Raider:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110723_23.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110723_21.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110723_25.jpg

All the FW parts are magnetised to allow movement. I have finished the other arm of the lifter since I took this photo. There is a Storm Raven Servitor operating the Sentinel. I just need to complete the following:

1) Small amount of milliput to mask where I cut and moved the FW arms of the power lifter

2) Keep on getting outbid when attempting to purchase the armoured top for the Sentinel - Anybody got any spare ones they are willing to give/trade?

3) Cut some tubing and use milliput to make a shell

4) Not sure what to put on the front of the Sentinel - toying with a skull surrounded by flames - What do you think?

Other things I have finished - Twin Frag Cannon sponsons:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110723_13.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110723_14.jpg

To get the inner Frag Cannon to fit, I had to slight shorten the ammo belt and used one of my old reclaimed ebay Land Raider Metal Hurricane Bolters sponsons (paintjob by previous owner!). Both sponsons have been completed. Now I need to build the Twin Turret version.

Here's a taster of my "Hedgehog" version of a missile Land Raider:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110723_19.jpg

This will be the top weapon.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110723_17.jpg

This I plan to use somehow as the sponson weapon. Still trying to get enough parts to do this. I wish people would stop bidding for parts I'm trying to win!!!!

Another future project:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110723_26.jpg

I want this to be on top of a future Land Raider!!! I just need to work out where to cut and how to fit it. Here's what I plan on using as extra side armour:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110723_47.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110723_48.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/philmorgan75/20110723_49.jpg

Just need to add some smaller flames at the bottom to finish off this side. The other side will involve a lot of cutting and sculpting and I'm not looking forward to it.

As usual any comments, fire away!
