What companies are people running

Complete 5th battle company under Captain Angelis with support elements from the 1st/8th/10th companies. Nearly finished my Angelis conversion which is basically a beefed up Sigvald with swooping hawk wings - very BA. (and he stands a head over most SMs) Also have no bald marines in the army - I find that people view BAs as either vampiristic or angelic and I wanted to enhance the latter in my army, hence lotsa green-stuff hairstyles. Anyone else tried this or similar? (I've seen some with fangs out there)

Indeed! I only have one fully-painted bare-headed BA so far, but there are several with green stuff hair at various stages. Have you any pictures of your army? I'd be interested to compare notes!

Edit: Am currently playing the mysterious 0 Company with absolutely no markings whatsoever, also known as the Indecisive and Lazy Company.

All my troops and normal figures are marked as 6th reserve company. I originally picked 6th because I don't play very many games (by circumstance, not by choice) and I figured that a reserve company would not see as much active duty so it fit. My VAS' though will be marked 1st company as veterans are, by fluff, pulled from the 1st company. I heard somewhere that the 6th company is an assault company (speeders and bikes primarily) but I don't know that for sure.

According to Codex: Angels of Death the 6th company is codex adherent: composed of 10 x 10-man Tactical squads but trained and equipped to be deployed on bikes (but not Land Speeders) if required. In codex chapters 6th company marines retain their tactical markings when deployed as bikers, so one would assume 6th Co BA Bikers would do likewise.

I have the 4th company, mainly 'cos I like the green drop better than most of the other colours.

Currently designing the commander, though I may paint him gold after reading a thread that mentioned company commanders armour being as such. Not sure if its true, but it's worth mulling over. A pity we don't have enough fluff for more than just a couple of companies.

Speaking of gold captains, I once saw a black and white death company chaplin in a colour painting. I think it was one of the older ones. Has anyone tried that colour scheme, or seen any other such ones?

Sorry if this is a little off topic.

Nope, not seen it. Do you have a pic? I'd rather stick with the black and red/gold for chaplains personally - fits BAs better I think.

I'm guessing he means this one:

Personally I've always classed it as silver, but I've heard people say its white.

Yeah, thats the one. I was just wondering if he's just randomly painted white/silver, or if there was going to be some fluff to go with it, at the time of painting. I think I agree with you, that the black and red looks better, but it would be nice to know if there was any significance to it. I like trying to make my models look fluffy, whether its just the wargear or making the character look darker, to reflect the black rage or something of the like.

Thanks for the replys, by the way, as I didn't expect much for an off topic question.

Ahh, good to know. I only have 2 speeders but do not use them often. One is marked 2nd company while the other isn't marked i think.

I do have 2 atk bikes and 4-5 bikers so i suppose that fits for the most part. If what you say is true, then perhaps i should look at getting more Atk bikes and bikers? /shrug.

  • 4 weeks later...

I play 2nd as well, though it was more of a conscious choice them some. I wanted to avoid Tycho and 3rd because when I pick him up it will be to paint him DC black. I also have elements of 1st (Terminators, VAS, and Honor Guards), 6th (Bikes), 7th (Landspeeders), and may eventually add some 9th and 10th.
