Bigger-than-Jesus
Looking nice, might have to rob that yellow for my fists. Didn't think I'd find any thing that could compare to your SoG. Then I found this. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/127627-mk5-marines-army-angels-of-vigilance/page/3/#findComment-1494923 Share on other sites
Khrangar
@tagsta: They all look a little boring right now because these are only the basic troopers. I plan to get a lot more individualized when it comes to the veterans squad, commander, and command squad, etc. Basically, anything that's not a Tactical Marine will look a bit more ornate than the current models do. I also need to add the gubbins to the models, like you suggested so I hope I won't disappoint when it's all done. @Bigger-Than-Jesus: Thanks mate. Khrangar ok I trust you on that :P glad that you took my critizm as constructive.. are you going to convert vets with robed DA parts since the AoV are DA successors? Khrangar
That was the plan. I think I'll get 2-3 boxes of the DA stuff and use them for command squad and vets. I'll see if I can convert some of the Mk5 heads to be robed too and see how it looks. I have 2 questions for everyone: 1) How should I convert my Commander and 2) Bolters or CCW and Bolt Pistols for my Veterans? Khrangar
They have been gubbined. Not the best pics I admit, but they're just to show what I've added to them. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/gubbin1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/gubbin2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/gubbin3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/gubbin4.jpg The bitz'll show up better once I start painting them. wienas
If you want to go along with the fluff, Astartes of that time primarily used boltguns. Although bp+ccw would probably be more useful game-wise. Brother Richard
I am still impressed with the combat knife in an alternate grip. Now that's combat ready! I will have to try a few. Khrangar
I've tentativly started my Commander for the army: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/commander1.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/commander2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/commander3.jpg I'm not sure if he'll fit in or if he's too huge for the army. Any ways to improve him would be appreciated. Also, I've been thinking of cutting off the hip plates to even him out a bit. wienas
I don't really think that he needs to be bigger than the normal marines, unless he's a Primarch or somesuch. If you choose to make him bigger, though, you could just use terminator arms on the existing torso and cut off the power cables from the back of them. I say keep the hip plates, but shave down the rope/crux from his waist so the torso sits a bit lower on the legs. You could also use the SM Commander torso back to give him a cape. Commanders always look cool with capes. That would also make the model wider, evening out his height a bit. Cheers. Stuart
He's too huge. I'm not saying he isn't cool looking, but I think he'll wind up just being really out of place next to everyone else. If you want a bigger commander, you could just give him a raised base and add spacers on his feet, waist, and shoulders. That, combined with a cape and either an Iron Halo or banner would make him sufficiently more impressive than a standard marine. Plus, if you're trying to make an entire army wearing one MK of armor, it wouldn't make sense to give the Commander a different looking suit ;) . If you can get yourself some rivets, I'd like to see some of the legs riveted. It'll be a pain, but the extra studs will really help out the Mk5 theme. Khrangar
Well, I've decided to scrap the biggerized Commander and go with something a bit smaller. @Stuart: Why give him a different suit? Because he's the leader. It's the same Mk, but a variant, or something. He'll be the only one in the army to have a studded leg, that should make him different enough. Also, I've got a test wash for the marines. It's not perfect, but it shows what the colour can do. BTW, it's Snakebite Leather. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/tester1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/tester2.jpg Khrangar Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/127627-mk5-marines-army-angels-of-vigilance/page/3/#findComment-1497788 Share on other sites
Khrangar
Not much of an update as I want to get everything assembled before I start painting, also waiting on comments on the snakebite leather wash, if you'd be so kind :woot:. Here's a couple new additions to the army: Devastator Sergeant: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/devi1.jpg Veteran: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/vet1.jpg Khrangar Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/127627-mk5-marines-army-angels-of-vigilance/page/3/#findComment-1498618 Share on other sites
Khrangar
I've done some GS work on the sergeant for the veteran squad. Khrangar
I've started painting a Veteran to see how the robe would look and this is what I've come up with: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/vetr1.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/vetr2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/vetr3.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Mark%205/vetr4.jpg Khrangar Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/127627-mk5-marines-army-angels-of-vigilance/page/3/#findComment-1499533 Share on other sites

kanan
nice work so far. i really liked the way you painted that Techmarine. you have a nice recipe for yellow too. its not an easy colour to paint but you have managed to do it consistantly. so far youre doing great. one thing im not so sure about is the marine with the Terminator legs, i feel the scale is a little off with that. TDA is very bulky compared with standard marine power armour and it doesnt match up well when you combine the two. but thats just my opinion, do what you feel is right for you. paint more, post more.
