Mk5 Marines Army - Angels of Vigilance

The Techmarine remains in half-finished Limbo until I either get a vehicle or the 5th SM codex comes out. As it stands using the DA codex, I can't really use him.

Just saw this today - and remember viewing it months ago when you had just started.

I have to say, it's a beautiful army - I love the theme and the color, great work! the only gripe / complaint / critique I would give are

1) the highlights on the little familliars are a bit much - I think the earlier poster's suggestions about black-glazing would be good to heed.

2) the chapter symbol on the banner is awesome. the same thing in the hands of the liby looks far too big / top heavy. is there anything you could do to trim it down a bit? I think it would really help the model.

overall, I'm floored, though.. just fantastic work.

Thanks nighthawks for the suggestions, but I think they look fine as is. The camera flash and amount of highlights on the watcher are why I think people have a problem with the highlights, but when there's no flash, and he's next to other marines ala Post #169, I think he looks a fair bit better, and a wash would make him look off next to other robed marines.

As for the Librarian staff, I will admit it is a bit big, but there's nothing I can really do without messing up the model.

As for an update:

The spiralling isn't as good up top as below the hand I think as the symbol was getting in the way. I think it'll look good from 3 feet away though and it's already glued in place so I don't want to change much of it. I'll probably add a bottom piece to the staff, maybe counter balance the top, kinda or something.

I've finally managed to finish the librarian. I decided not to add cabling to the hood as I couldn't find anything to use and figured it wouldnt' really matter.

Here are the pics:

I hope to start painting him this weekend or early next week.

Really nice conversion. I like the staff.

I know that you said that you are not, but I think the cabling would make him look more librarian-ish.

Where is the metal right hand from?

The cabling would help that effect, but I can't find any floral wire, strange I know but I've searched everywhere I could think of. I'm hoping that painting him blue will make him obvious enough.

As for the hand, it's from the new Terminator Librarian.

@Dork: I thought of studs, but they seemed rediculously hard to do for the amount of models I needed to give studs to.

I've hit a snag. In trying to paint my Librarian, I have found that Enchanted Blue is too dark on the overall model, as it's primarily robed and the robes will be black. I was wondering if there was a lighter blue, but not quite Ice Blue out there that would work better.

Please let me know,

Here's a moslty finished but still WIP backpack for the Librarian. I need to touch some things up and add another highlight to the blue and it's good to go.

What do you think of the blue?

  • 5 months later...

A bit of threadomancy, but by the creator, and with some new progress, so I guess that's okay, isn't it?

In either case, I have been diligently cutting away one of the Sternguard that I bought today to get the legs for the Chapter Master of the Angels of Vigilance. He doesn't look like much now, but hopefully will look better once he's finished.

Here's what I have so far:

I'm stuck on giving him a tabard/loin cloth as I can't seem to find a good one to add that doesn't get in the way too much and my gs fu isn't that great. If anyone can give me ideas, I'd appreciate it.

More to come,

I did a bit of gs gap filling and here's where he is so far. He has some cabling now from the vent to his belt and I added a temporary tabard for him. It'll be a lot nicer when done/redone, but I wanted to see what people thought on the general flow of it, mainly the basic idea of the fold on the right side.

I redid the tabard today. It's not perfect, but I think it'll do for now.

I also gap filled around his waist and added some cabling on the torso.
