Aegis Astartes - DIY Chapter

Recommended Posts

My first post on B&C!

My SM chapter is the Aegis Astartes.

They are an Imperial Fist successor chapter based in their fortress, The Bastion, on Ganymede, third moon of Jupiter.

The chapter symbol is a white shield surrounded by a laurel wreath and the chapter motto is: Lauro Scutoque Resurgo (I rise again by the laurel and shield).

I've started a combat patrol force as follows:

**Expunged from records. Order Origination: 5th Ed Codex**

Here are some pictures of the first test marine and the chapter master:

For a successor/nephew chapter, I'll bite :P

Your fluff is pretty minimal so far (a good thing). Some folks come up with pages and pages of nonsense to wade through - and it's very difficult (takes real talent) to maintain quality over X number of pages of chapter history etc etc etc.

What you've got so far, I like. Fortress name = good. Don't go overboard on the latin. What you have is enough to lend credibility without smelling like smarty-pants-ness.

The bear thing on the chaptermaster is unexplained. I saw him before I read the stuff and expected to see a reference to the ursine pelt. Not that a pelt necessarily needs explaining, but as a banner - which is something of a motif characteristic of the chapter - you might do better with a shield of some kind. The de-commissioned holy shield of a long-dead chapter hero perhaps? See the Forgeworld Black Templar Dreadnought's banner for an idea of what I mean.

I wouldn't recommend integrating a second theme into chapter history, you'll end up diluting what you have which is great. So don't make the the emperor's chosen bear killers or whatever.

To modelling/painting: scheme is good. Simple strong colour = good. I feel the painting method would to better to be cleaner - a more solid flat colour will look great.

And, you got the GS-fu goin' on!

Thanks for the comments. That's about as much latin as will be used - never got the hang of it when i was studying it!

I'm currently working on a conversion for a chaplain, based on a veteran marine. His crozius has an eagle with four arrowheads in saltire, much like the traditional Zeus' thunderbolt (an obvious reference given the chapter name). He also bears a round shield (an old Marauder Dark Elf shield from the early 90's) bearing an ancient representation of the medusa head. This is the Aegis of the chapter name and acts as his rosarius. Pics soon.

The bear pelt is a polar bear, intended as a trophy of some campaign or neophyte accomplishment. This was based on the ice tundra of their homeworld and the snow basing, but the more I look at it, the less I'm thinking it fits :P

I've also done a cyber polar bear familiar for my librarian:

Some others of the undercoated chapter master and chapter standard:

And my first combat squad:

This is my first time painting marines and my technique needs a lot of work, question is: how to retain the dark grimy look?

After taking about a year out from my SM, I've been jollied into life again by the new codex.

I've looked through what I had so far and am retaining the name, symbol, motto, colour scheme etc...

The chapter master is being converted to a thunder hammer and storm shield (old Dark Elf shield from the marauder days), much more appropriate. The bear pelt has gone also, replaced by a more normal banner from the commander sprue.

Ganymede in the fluff is unsettlable due to the 'Contagion of Ganymede', so need to find a new homeworld or fleet.

The chapter banner bearer has been painted (pics soon).

I'm converting up a captain for my recon scout force using the Telion body. He'll be accompanied by a command squad of an apothecary and the recruiting sergeants (all in scout armour 'counts-as' power armour).

New Initial forces:

HQ - Captain + Command - razorback?

TROOPS - 5 scouts (BP + CCW) - in a landspeeder storm

TROOPS - 5 scouts (sniper rifles + missile launcher) - with Telion sergeant upgrade

FAST ATTACK - Scout bike squadron

ELITE - Terminators - teleport
