Tabor
Salutations, B&Cers i have begun a small DIY army, which will mostly consist of Terminators and scouts. Ive already posted up the leader, a Terminator Librarian, elsewhere on the site. (terminator librarian...i always laugh when i hear that... just imagine a librarian in real life... lol) anyway, here is the scheme, and a basic rundown on the Background http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/awesomescheme.jpg Background: Originally an Inquisition experiment in Geneseed alterations (kept quiet - obviously - the astartes might get a bit... annoyed... if they found out), The Sons of Jhukan where a small chapter located near Kar Duniash, on the far side of the Galaxy. Their close ties to the Inquisiton, and the relative mystery surrounding their founding meant that the Sons of Jhukan were often aggressive seekers of information. On a small, isolated world, a Training expedition comprised of veterans and new scout recruits discovered a withered, ancient space marine in hiding. he was captured without resistance. Over 10,000 yrs old, the expedition Chaplin could smell the taint of chaos on him. however, it was decided that sending him back to the chapter fortress for interrogation could yield valuable information. a small dispatch was sent back, taking the ancient marine with them. The interrogators were to be disappointed. despite the fiercest torture, the marine muttered only babble about repentance and forgiviness. that, and a name. As with all things conducted by the chapter, a report on this was sent back to the Inquisition, who were still monitoring them closely. Although it meant relatively little to the inquisitors, the name was chanced upon by a lowly scribe in the employ of (though he did not know it) a very old, very powerful chapter. and that name was enough to send a chill down the spines of the inner circle of the Dark Angels. unforgiven... A Strike force, disguised as an inspection delegation, was sent to the Sons homeworld. The dark angels simply walked into the fortress through the front door, disabled communications and murdered the grand master and over a thousand space marines and support staff. When the Sons of Jhukan training mission returned, their world was a blackened, soot covered world. there was no trace of who had destroyed their entire chapter. In grief, the repainted their armour black, and left their dead world to be forgotten. etc, etc oh, for those interested, the Sons of Jhukan sheme is: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/SonsofJhukahnschemecopy.jpg and whats been done so far: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/DSCF2123.jpg close ups and a scratch built dread to come! Tabor
Christ, do the Suns of Jhukan instead. That's an awesome scheme. hmmm... well i was going to paint my friends unpainted (and huge) SM army as them... but i could swap schemes... and i am having a little bit of dificulty with the idea of putting lightning on lightning claw hands.... so maybe. if at least two more people tell me to, then yes. but ill finish the dread before i decide. and speaking of the dread: front: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/front.jpg Side: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/side.jpg Rear: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/rear.jpg and its TL lascannon: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/las.jpg this thing was really easy to make, and anyone who has collected IG and Tau could do it... though im stuck for a Dread CCW. any ideas? comments and reples welcome Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130944-shadow-mourners/#findComment-1508420 Share on other sites

Commissar Molotov
I agree that the split white-and-turquoise is the more attractive, unusual and visually striking scheme of the two. And you'll get mad props for your patience, too. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130944-shadow-mourners/#findComment-1508438 Share on other sites
Octavulg
*dons false moustache* Ze split scheme, she is the prettiness, ja. That said, your dreadnought looks a bit spindly. Will there be beefy armor added? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130944-shadow-mourners/#findComment-1508441 Share on other sites
Tabor
And you'll get mad props for your patience, too. *is seduced by prospect of 'mad props', despite not knowing what they are* split scheme it is! though now i must go forth and buy more paints.... damn. your dreadnought looks a bit spindly. Will there be beefy armor added? do you mean in the legs? if so, yes, though im not sure how or what with. i have Assault termi shields leftover... Octavulg
do you mean in the legs? I do. if so, yes, though im not sure how or what with. i have Assault termi shields leftover... Chaos Warrior shields! Or any other large, slightly curved shield. Imitating standard Dread leg armor is probably your best bet. Seriously, Chaos Warrior Shields'll do anything. And since I wanted to do a similar style dread for one of my armies, you have contributed to my happiness by prodding me into this little epiphany. I may owe you one. BLARGAG!!!
*dons false moustache* Ze split scheme, she is the prettiness, ja. I agree that the split white-and-turquoise is the more attractive, unusual and visually striking scheme of the two. And you'll get mad props for your patience, too. i agree with both of these. the blue and white scheme is FAR better looking imo. good luck BLARGAG!!! Master Toddius
I agree, the hawk turqoise blue and white quartered scheme is much more interesting. I think the proposed shoulder pad icons should be something other than a acronym. Maybe what is a better choice is to mix the two ideas you've presented. I think you should use the bloody teared shadow mourners emblems for the Sons of Jhukan. Maybe rewrite the fluff a bit. I think red tears running down a black skulls eyes, with black trim and bolters along with your blue/white scheme would be pretty cool. The red is near the opposite of blue/green which will make the tears pop on the paintjob. The black makes the idea of a shadow more apparent, and that idea is furthered with a quartered scheme. Also, I might change the name a bit. Something that rolls off the tongue a little easier: ~Shadow Lamenters ~Angels of Lamentation ~Sons of Lamentation ~Angels of Perdition ~Sons of Hades Something maybe along those lines. Just a few thoughts. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130944-shadow-mourners/#findComment-1509040 Share on other sites

Tabor
"mad" = extreme; "props" = support (in a congratulatory sense) ahh.... learn something new everyday Also, I might change the name a bit. Something that rolls off the tongue a little easier: i was thinking maybe not having them change their name and armour, and just staying as the sons of Jhukan. Chaos Warrior shields! Or any other large, slightly curved shield. Imitating standard Dread leg armor is probably your best bet. couldnt find any chaos sheilds on ebay, and dont wanna buy a whole box, so im not sure about chaos sheilds. did muck around with Termy assault shields though and got these two options (tacked on) http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/sheildleg1.jpg thoughts? i found the isue was that they looked like... storm shields... do you think if i modelled a sort of radar beacon on one side i could say it orders missile launches from off the battlefield, and hence has a missile launcher? (i would model an incoming missile as well) any ideas on what would be good options for expanding the army, specifically troops wise? i dont really like normal space marines though. robes and scouts are ok though. Tvayumat
I personally like the idea of calling in missile strikes with pinpoint accuracy, as long as you explained it to your opponent, I see no issue, though you might have a ML arm standing by in case you get a rule-nazi. Tabor
Did some painting. the lighting in the photos is really bad, as the blue - green is actually much lighter and much less 'green'. anyway, http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/front1.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/back1.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/fronttop.jpg just to get an idea of what it will look like in real life. took aaaaaaaaages. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130944-shadow-mourners/#findComment-1512642 Share on other sites

Tabor
bandied around a bit, making the current terminator more 'blue' until it was sort of teal, however this looked a lot like the SoG, so while it was nice i went back to a greener version. so anyway, the scheme is changing slightly from: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/SonsofJhukahnschemecopy.jpg to something more like: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/newSoJscheme.jpg this? though even thats not quite right. also, i cant get a good eagle colour, any suggestion? the gold isnt working for me in RL, so sad. Also, i'm having a wee bit of trouble with justifying why my librarians colour scheme is so very, very different. ie, http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u161/Tabor4chaos/termylibbyfinished-goodly.jpg B) any suggestions on how to make them look like their in the same army, which doesnt require me repainting the librarian? tabor Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130944-shadow-mourners/#findComment-1513978 Share on other sites
Frost Knight
you could say that it is also the duty of the commanders and leaders to mourn for the destruction of there chapter so thats why they are black and everybody else is the awsome blue and white scheme Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130944-shadow-mourners/#findComment-1514061 Share on other sites
carnage
How about saying that the commander is wearing an archaic set of un-repaintable armour? Paint his bodyguard of termies in the same colours, to show that they are in a sort of higher echelon, so to speak. Maybe paint the librarians shoulder pad turqoise? Tie him in with the army a little. If you're not willing to do that, give him a turqoise banner. The shoulder pad would be enough to tie him in the army. And if you paint that bodyguard with a coulour scheme that's between your normal theme and librarians theme it would be clear that they are in the same army. Nice work nevertheless. Rossco
In a Codex chapter the librarian would wear a different colour armour to his bretheren anyway (providing the chapter didn't have dark blue armour !) Why not write into your fluff that librarians from your chapter wear black, you can give any number of reasons for this, then just put the chapter badge on his shoulder. Ifyou do that it might be an idea to have your chaplains in a different colour to, just to differentiate them from anyone else. And looking again would it be possible to repaint his left hand turqouise, that could work ! Commissar Molotov
There was a short story in one of the Chapter Approved annuals which featured Sigismund (who would be the first Emperor's Champion, and the Chapter Master of the Black Templars). One of the Imperial Fists Chaplains mentions that Sigismund's armour has been painted black to show that he serves the Emperor directly - that he has been marked out in the Emperor's sight. There's your reason right there! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130944-shadow-mourners/#findComment-1514169 Share on other sites
