Black Templar army in the works

Well I don't see anything necessarily wrong with the bike HQ except that... perhaps he's too plain. For an HQ I think he could really use some more details, like perhaps chains or shoulder shields, or just knight shields and swords and stuff slung onto the bike, tabbards and so forth. Without much detail he just looks like a BT Biker, not really a commander or anything.

Though of course that's arguably not a bad thing - when you expand the army you could get a more impressive Marshal/Castellan and then use this guy as a Biker Sergeant. :)

BT's dont have sergeants. He could simply be a power weapon wielding initiate.

Touché, but you get my point. (Though he did say that he was doing 'very-dark-but-not-quite-black templars' and not using the Black Templars Codex... :HQ:)

Thanks for the comments everyone. Even as an HQ I didn't want this guy to stand out. He will probably only be used in my 500 point list, the chap will take over from 1000 and beyond. I guess that why I didn't put much time into him.

I like how the whole army looks cohesive.

To me, the army looking as a single unit is more important than anything. In my humble opinion, an army painted with master skill and quality yet no common features still looks like crap (eldar with their Skittles aspect warriors come to mind). The army just looks divided.

I like the effect on the axe. Perhaps could have gone a bit further and done a bit more on it.

This was more of a test for my titan fist hammer squads I'll be doing shortly. In your opinion should I add more fire/lava/glowingstuffwhatever? On the edges only or all over? Try to visualize what it would look like on a hammer, please. The effect I was shootin for was a swirling lava'esk look that was only visible on the edges... maybe It was poorly done =/. I don't like the standard blue power weapon look as its a distraction and tons of color on models that I wish to be dark and serious. I like the red glowing lightning effect, but I'm not skilled enough to make it look like I want. Thoughts?

What I love about this army is that its classic. The highlights, the basing, the overall painting, it just comes across as classic to me, for a lack of a better word. Cohesive, imaginative, and gorgeous. This is the kind of army that even if I lost by 1000 pts, Id still be happy to play. Keep up the overall good work.

well i think it would look better if u painted the axe a dark red colour as a base and, gradually work up to orange/yellow so it gives a bit better idea of what u are planning to do for the ppl that see the model for the first time;)

grtz

Next up for my very-dark-yet-not-quite-black Templar we have doods with las cannons! I dont think they came out as good as other models. THink the same thing happened with the bike HQ/Leader/normal biker/woodcutter; Im getting lazy and just want to get crap painted so I can put it on the table. Let me know what ya think.

EC getting shot by las cannons! (it took about 10 min of shaking and playing with the blister to get him to stand up)

Heres a pic with the HQ/Leader/normal biker/woodcutter where everything isnt yellow. Thought it was due to the table being covered up, but the pics above were taken with a white base as well... no clue, the mystery continues.

Lascannon Dood Sergeant - "Steady now, my Brethren, wait until you see the whites of their eyes."

Lascannon Dood #1 - "Don't you mean the glow of his eye lenses?"

Lascannon Dood #2 - "Er... but he's not even painted."

Lascannon Dood Sergeant - "Obviously a sign of Chaos taint! Ready, aim - "

Emperor's Champion - "Don't Lase me, bros! I'll go back to the WIP Forum!"

Glad to see you're making more progress. And, they don't look like they suffered a lazy nor a rushed job to me.

hahaha this made me laugh!

I like the way your templars look. Reminds me of a guy named MrDee on Warseer.

Since my last post I have knocked out two more plasma cannon marines and my first terminator. For as long as he took to finish, I dont think he came out as well as he should have. Maybe Im just over estimating my painting ability or under estimating how he came out. Anyway, here he is.

First squad has gold hats, next will be silver, third will be black. I tried to really put a lot of "Motion" in this guy, like hes in the middle of swinging the hammer, tried to mount a few of the seals at angles and what not. Have the shield positioned really far behind him like hes using it as a counter weight for the big hammer. Messed up on the "T" in templars on his shoulder. It was one of hte last things I did on the model so I was just like  it, for the most part. Let me know what ya think.

Well, its been a long time since I have posted on this thread. I took a few months off' I think I got a little burned out. In any case I'm back in it full swing, ahve been for a month or two.

I ended up getting into a tournament this Saturday and placed first out of 19 players, won the painting compition with my land raider, and tied for favorite oponent (no prize tho, as I already had the two biggest  ). The standings where very close with all 1st rounds being draws or marginal wins/losses.

The first game was with another marine player who had two large terminator squads, two land raiders, two land speeder storms, two 5 man sniper scouts, and a terminator HQ. Ended in a draw. Next round was with Tou wich ended in a crushing victory. Last game was a green horde or orcs with many killer cans, also ended in massive victory. I had FUN in every game, all games were with great opponents. I kinda felt bad against the Tou player; he was a friend and really took a beating with a smile, A+ sportsmanship.

The list I was running was:

Base cost

Bike

Relic blade

Artificer armor

Melta bombs

Finally got these guys done.

The line breaker that made many unhappy orcs and tou:

These guys were just flat needed for tourny play. Melta guns for my basic squads and squad leaders with normal weapons. I was planning for the future here and made enough for 3 squads, I still have another razor back that needs put together. With the third razor done I'll have three squads like the two I ran in the above tourny.

Next are all terminator close ups and single shots. They're not all that comparied to some, but they're very good comming from me. My favorite models in my army.

The Templar crosses on their legs and armor plates look fantastic - definitely set your termies apart from other BT termies you see around.

Still can't quite get over the metallic helmets though. Great shading on them and their hammers nonetheless!

Also, I had no idea the FW shields were that big. Damn right those give a 3+ invulnerable!
