Need opinions on my newest (sorry Head Swap) conversion...

Hey All,

 

As I get ready for 5th edition and await patiently for the new Marine codex, I thought I would get together my Ultramarine army and with some of the rumors floating around about Calgar, I thought "He needs to be in my army!" I love the miniature, except for one thing...His bare head, so I present to you now my solution and I need to know what you think.

Right now he's just blue tacked together, so changes can be made. I am just not a huge fan of bare headed marines, especially notable commanders such as Calgar. So let me know what you think.

 

Oh before I leave, I am thinking about a set of plastic laurels on his head, or should I paint them on??

Original Marneus wore a corvus helmet. Aka the beaky.

 

He always just struck me as a practical person. His armour is ornate, yes, but I'd imagine him just wearing a terminator helmet with an optic scanner thing.

Thanks for the replies so far...I am still unsure of which head to choose, so I mocked up a couple of alternate heads...

If I were to go with the last option, I would cut down the neck to make the head sit more properly in the area, I just didn't want to waste a helm just yet.

Hi High Marshal Pal... to be honest the termie heads look to big, and the beakie just doesn't look right. do you have any metal termie heads? I have a Chaos metal termie head you could have, you would need to trim of the horns etc.

The last one looks the best, but I was thinking the scanner would go on his right eye like how he has it on his face.

 

If there was a beaky version of a terminator helmet (not just the grey knight kind) then I'd suggest that..

Depending on your budget and patience, If you want a Mark III "Crusader" Helm you need to cut the one from the Emperor's Champion.

 

With the Ultramarines being of a Greco-Roman background you should make something that looks similar to a corinthian Helm or add a horsehair brush.

Nah, the GK style helmet was coolest. I'd equip him with that one and paint laurels on =]

Well, the GK style helmet is definitely the most unique...

 

I stand by what I said, the GK termi helmet is the rarest, coolest, and most awesome =]

Btw what's the first one? Plastic but GK style.. what kit is this from?

Those are not from a kit per say, take an existing termie face and then cut angles of plastic away from face and whola you have a termie face that looks like a knights head.

For respect to the mini do not use a head that has to look down to fit into the terminator armor because it just looks odd.

Hey everyone, Thanks for the replies! I ended up going with this one:

but rest assured that I did cut the neck down so the head fits nicely where it should. I will most likely paint the head white and paint blue laurels on the side.

 

I'll post more pictures later on. Currently he's primed black and needs a wash of Black to make sure he's completely covered.

Yes I would agree with that, shave down the ear bits, and maybe get rid of the top stripe too.... Looking good though :)
