How simple to put together. While doing the "Orange Squad" I painted their right shoulder pads black. This added a wonderful pop to the model and have been doing it to subsequent models since. Went back last night and added the black to my Captain's shoulder pad and my spare-Parts Sergeant. Also added more highlights to the Captain. Still not satisfied with his cloak. And I need to finish flocking the finished Tac squads. Sometime next week I'll get a picture up of my completed Chaplain and my work in progress Assault Squads. Or I may free hand a black palm. I lean more towards the palm than anything else. Nick Vinson Posted August 13, 2008 Author Share Posted August 13, 2008 I've been working on these guys off and on for the better part of 2 years. Off during the school semesters as painting = bad grades and on during winter and summer breaks. The biggest hold up was when the Gaming Shop I worked at closed down. And the base color was GW's Vile Green, which is long out of production. I ran out of that half way thru my 3rd unit and only last summer discovered Vallejo paints had an equivalent color. As for my icon I like your suggestion and may incorporate a skeleton hand thereby tying in the death motif and the hand motif. but thats not until after my Dreds are finished. You have more marines painted in 2 years than some people have in 5. ;) Looks like you a few good dynamic poses in there too. Good use of the Macragge Marines btw. As for successor chapter, I've kind of thought of these guys as successors to either the Imperial Fists or possibly Raven Guard, because I like their hit and run tactics. I remember seeing shots of an army called the Void Dragons and they were (at the time), this crazy color. I loved them. So keep up the great work! How is the company indicated? Thanks, I stole the idea from my former boss. He used this on his Space Wolves. The company is indicated by the bronze on their shoulder pads. This is the Second Company as the First Company is all Terminators (which I have not bought, yet). In the end it's personal preference With mine he is sporting sections of his armour which are the same as his chapter, but the majority is black. Nick Vinson Posted August 19, 2008 Author Share Posted August 19, 2008 A guy in my LGS said something to that affect when he saw the Chaplain in WIP. Me: "ALL BLACK? Sonofa...." And as I didn't want to repaint his armor and add MORE highlights I just painted his shin guard. =D I'm gonna buy a new Chaplain (the one with a jump pack) and he WILL be all black. As for the headache, when these guys are fielded the color is quite mild. It seems gaudier on camera for some reason. The real headache comes from painting the black knee pads and underarmour. Yeesh. The assault Marines will be ready sometime next week. Work is pulling me out of town again this weekend. I would complain but I get to bring my fiance with me, so its happy days. :D Also, thanks to all you guys for your kind words. I'm really pleased with my color scheme. At first I thought they would look retarded but adding a dark green ink wash helps immeasurably. Updates: Found my Rhinos and Razorback. Found my second Dred box. Plan of Action: Complete Assault Marines. Finish Rhinos. Start Dreds. Wait: On finishing the Command squads until I see what the new codex does with them.
