World Eater's Vs Emperor's Spears

I fancied making myself a model or two for a display as most of my models are for playing with. Was going to have him squaring off against a yet undecided warp dweller

but can't decide on a chapter! Never made a diorama or anything before so thought i something simple like this would be a good start!

Looking for some ideas on how i could improve the guy

Plus what chapter you think i should go for!

Opinions welcome! :)

Hmm, perhaps for an improvement you could have a chainsword on his back to show his sergeant status. Could you get us some closer shots of him from a few angles?

For a chapter I'd choose one of the lesser known or featured ones, such as the Emperor's Spears or the Brotherhood of a Thousand.

Got a couple of other angles here, apologies for the poor quality i'm having to take the photos with my phone.

Brother Cambrius: You've got a good point about the chainsword. How would you go about doing that? with a strap?

I also had an idea of maybe sticking it in the ground, nose first like he has done it in a hurry. obviously a bigger base would be needed for this idea

Can anyone give me the name of an alternative to gs that is available in the uk? You don't get very much for the price it seems. Lord-bunny: I really like the idea of that chapter! Is there no fluff on them at all?

Made a good start on the armour today, i decided to go for the Emperor's spears chapter seen here and recommended by Brother Cambrius http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Emperor%27s_Spears

I've never done blue before, and i think it would contrast well with the warp creature when i decide what i am doing!

Anyway here's what i've got so far, he does need to be re-based.

The sun went in for this one which was annoying! lol

Armour is nearly complete except weathering and a little battle damage

metcalfedan: This guys gunna be one half of a diorama i am working on. i am going to make a base which they slot in to and his chainsword is going to be stuck into the ground a short way behind him.

A couple of his fallen brothers are going to be on the the base which is where he acquired his rocket launcher :P

I am still undecided on quite what he is going to be firing his rocket at but all suggestions are welcome! ;)

The model looks very good mate, i like the idea of a last ditch stand off with the sgt as the last man to fall.

As for an enemy i think you should go for an enemy he has the slimmest chances of defeating such as a defiler, or a sqd of chaos termies... or something extremely quick like a DE raider full of warriors?

As another little quirky extra, if you are putting some sort of plaque on the base why dont you put some sort of blessing on it, as if the marine is asking the Emperor for his missile to fly true?

Have you got any WIP progress shots of his fallen marines?

Cheers!

Cpt. Cortez: cheers for the ideas guys. i am tied between the enemy being orks or chaos to be honest! , i don't want one aspect dwarfing the rest of the models, so i am probably not going to use vehicles that are too large, but the idea of terminators sounds pretty awesome or maybe a gun emplacement if it is orks?. plus it will give me the chance to paint some chaos/ork stuff properly for the first time! <_<

I really like the idea of him whispering a prayer too, it's definitely something i will want to try when the base has been completed.

As for the fallen marines i should be getting some pics up tomorrow!

I'm unsure though whether to base them separately or to make them part of the larger base, what do you think?

Also have an update on the vet sgt

Right, got a bit of an update!

First off i have now successfully finished my vet sgt!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k420/ddsmith1_photos/P180808_1333.jpghttp://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k420/ddsmith1_photos/P180808_133301.jpghttp://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k420/ddsmith1_photos/P180808_1334.jpghttp://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k420/ddsmith1_photos/P180808_133401.jpg

I've also made head way on two of the enemy, these are very WIP plus are only support for either the terminators OR obliterator which will be the main 'bad guy'.

You will also probably notice that this is the first time i have ever used green stuff! :)

Then i've also got some progress with my fallen marines, the first guy will be face down with a head wound, he is attempting to take one last shot

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k420/ddsmith1_photos/P190808_0809.jpg

Second guy i'm not entirely happy with, he will be propped up against a rock, with a grenade in his hand

please share your opinions as it always helps! :D

Worked out my basic colour scheme, unfortunately the pictures make him look a tad pink which is annoying.

I'm happy with the results of the figure so far though

Excellent painting taLLis. Regaring your grenade throwing marine, I'd get rid of him hokding the auspex and have it lying on the ground next to him and have the grenade in the hand hokding the auspex. For the right arm, I would suggest using the Biker arms as they look like an idle arm and hand. One thing to remember for the World Eaters, have most of them looking down as no-one's standing up. Perhaps as well you could have one World Eater just about to take down his axe on the guy who's raising his plasma pistol?

Keep it up and I look forward to seeing these guys being completed.

I like your 'zerker taLLis, the red seems quite solid, good job, I like mine a bit dirtier, but that's a personal preference. You should maybe drip some blood off the Chainaxe, you should have a look at Lonewolf's tutorial here also you might wanna think about drilling out the bolter barrel?

Cheers guys , thanks for all your input

Chainaxe_of_Khorne:

Unfortunately i don't own any foundation paints at the moment so i have to do everything with the standard ones  . I therefore started with a layer of Red core and gradually added Blood Red to increase the brightness, after this i started adding very small amounts of Bleached bone to the Blood Red to make some more highlights, then i added a two layers of quite heavily watered down chestnut ink, and then a little more highlighting!

Hope this helps, remember to add a little water to your paints when applying them so that it stays smooth and doesn't become clumpy

Brother Cambrius:

Thanks for your ideas dude. I really like the idea of having a WE going for the wounded marine, will look awesome. The wounded marine definitely does need some changes so i'm going to give your idea a go.

birdie:

Your right he does look a bit clean! I am going to be adding similar weathering to what i used on the Veteran Sgt and that Gore tutorial is awesome!! I am not too confident on battle damage though so any advice is appreciated

WIP of my chaos Sgt.

i'm pleased with the armour but am feeling a little let down by the face. Any suggestions?

Thought i'd get some input before continuing

No weathering, damage, gore or small details as of yet.
