Crimson Fists Scout

Hey.

Decided against BT and to go for CF instead. As i'm good friends with Starks, i got his link to his blending tutorial, and i had a go!

I know the face isn't done and i know they're bad overall pics and i know the undercoat looks like it's metallic, but it's been a while since i took pics of models (or painted anything for that matter) a good 7 months or so.

Anyway you can see the blending so yeah.

Please let me know what you think!

I like what I can see so far, but better photos will help. What is the colour mix you're using? It looks like you've used a really dark blue (Midnight Blue) but the effect works well and the lightest blue colour doesn't look chalky. I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures.

Looking good. I'm still learning to blend myself but I would think that the Scout's wrist and groin armour would be a slightly darker blue due to the shadow from the rest of the body - currently these areas look as bright as the top part of the body armour. I hope that this helps?

Yeah i get what you mean. I just made them brighter, even though they might not be hit by as much light as you might think, it helps to add depth to the model. (Pretty much quoted from Starks, but the theory is there).

Considering adding one more highlight, but i'm not so sure.

heres a list of things:

1. tidyness is key...i can see the metal showing through, paint it!

2. get good brushes, it only makes accuracy with the brush easier

3.more layers for a smoother coat, also veyr important, dont even think about highlighting or shading until your basecoat is even

4. quit using blues to blend blues it makes it more difficult/annoying

if you want to start with midnight...and you want regal highlights, your second highlight you should be adding a bone colour or something of the sort, otherwise you are simply making it more blue(by using ultras) rather than brighter

a glaze is very thin and will tint, so when blending always use the darker colour and glaze downwards if shading or across if doing a joint, and pass over until its smooth

work on being precise with your brush, you need more control as with contorl you will get cleanliness, precision, smoother blending, softer gradation and so forth :tu:

keep working at it :P

Ah yay. Been waiting for you to come on.

I'm using standard GW brushes, however i have a few Windsor and Newton ones..i'll take pics as i don't know what they are.

What should i use to blend if not blues? You mean mixtures?

And finally, how am i doing for a first attempt?
