Converted terminators

Pyriel

A few of minis from the 1:st company I´m converting and painting up.

They are going to be around 55 or so of them and I still have 30 to go.

Exceptional. I find it hard work painting the same colour scheme on 20 models to any quality, let alone 55. You sir, are a braver man than I.

One suggestion- some extreme highlights on the NMM would be quick and easy to do and would really make it look metallic, rather than ochre or grey.

Still, phenomenal work.

Very nice. As a Deathwing player, 55 terminators in just about any scheme is nice, but these Sallies look most excellent. Well done.

Will you be using Deathwing rules to field the army? Or are you just one of those "gotta collect & paint the whole chapter, one company at a time..." kinda folks. B)

I dont know, I tried a lot of games with a standard codex layout but you are punished severely with only 10 marines as troops so that configuration was no good but then I have 2 librarians to go with the force and I REALLY like librarians.

However I think I´ll have to switch to DW rules to get the army somewhat playable.

Err... I think they're Salamander Terminators? Not Deathwing. Deathwing aren't allowed more than 47 anyway (I think, I don't have the book itself though).

I think its 52

6x 5 Troops

3x 5 Vets

2x 1 HQ

1x 5 Command Squad for Belial

Which is 52 by my count (Though the command squad may count as an elite or something)

Nice termies. I've been contemplating starting Sallies myself...

Correct, they are Salamander Termies. But that doesn't prevent one from playing with them using the Dark Angels rules for "Counts As". :cuss

And the Dark Angels' First Company, The Deathwing, is a unique company amongst Space Marines. It consists of 100 terminators broken into 20 five-man squads. Well, maybe that's 101 terminators including Belial... :cuss 47 is the number a single Force Org Chart allows (Bobmakenzie, Belial's 'special unit' still takes up either an elite or troops slot, so you can max at 9 squads of 5 termies each (45) plus the two characters (47).

Pyriel, if it weren't for the new "only troops score" rule in v5, then maybe the Lysander Wing or Chaos Wing versions (i.e., 1 Termie HQ, 2 min Troops squads, and three 10-man Termie squads) would be OK. But now that only Troops (w/ capital "T") can score, it seems as though Deathwing is the only way to play with large numbers of Termies (that, or Apocalypse).

Good luck, and again, NICE work on the termies!

actually states

"If Belial is in the army, Deathwing Terminator Squads may be treated as a troops choice as well as an Elites choice."

so no termies for Fast attack or heavy support :)

correct, so 9 squads max. And like I said, Belial's "Command Squad" still takes up one of those 9 slots (another Belial Special Rule states something like "one Deathwing Terminator squad may include the following upgrades: Standard Bearer and Apothecary" (paraphrased)).

As for the Sallies termies Pyriel is working on (trying to avoid thread hijaking here), there's pleanty of examples out there of "Counts As" for Deathwing armies. If anything, there's probably more (me included) that are "counts as" simply because they don't follow the bone-white color scheme of the Deathwing (I say mine are Angels of Absolution cuz they're black). And for a force the size of 30-45 termies + HQs, its not unreasonable for any Space Marine chapter to field that from a fluff standpoint. Where the Deathwing is 100 termies, Vanilla Marines still have about a 50/50 mix of Termies and Power Armor veterans in the 1st company.

Thing is the salamanders have more suits then other chapters.

They also have a 120 strong first company so theoretically I could smack down 120 terminators plus assorted HQs in an apoc game and still nobody could claim it broke the fluff

Now when I think of it I might do even more terminators.

I dunno, I order the Battle for Black Ridge and aim to paint the Marines as Ultras and then I see your Salamanders! The Terminators are very well painted and I like the conversions to make them fit in as Salamanders. You might have changed my mind in what way I paint my army! Any tips how you achieved that green armour?

JetfireUK:

I mix snot green with dark angels green to get a really dark hue and then paint the minis in layers just adding scorpion green for the highlites all the way up to pure scorpion green where the edges are at their sharpest.

Absolutely beautiful! They're based very similar to how my army is based except for the lava....I've never been able to figure out how to do lava effects on a base. Any possible tips/voodoo magic you could share with me Pyriel? I'm converting my Vulkan He'stan model since I saw his wargear and would like to have lava on his base. Anywhos, fantastic models!
