If that is your painting level when you feel "rusty", i'm almost tempted to ask what your level is when you feel on par! ^_^

That is a fantastic looking BR Termiantor. The paint job looks great and all the extra finishing touches here and there (dirt, chipped armor) really gives the mini some character.

Rusty or not, your painting skills are top notch

I like your weathering and worn effects. Your free-hand

is great and the green eyes really make the head

stand out. Only question is where is the WIP part?

Looks done to me.

The WIP part is mostly tidying and sharpening up some details. I find looking at photos of what I've done helps more than looking at the mini. Extra paires of eyes also help!

For example: the right eye needs a stronger black line, the pipe on the powerfist need tidying up, both pipes need sharpening highlights on each segment. Lots of the chips also need shading in to increase the contrast between the exposed 'metal' and the red basecoat.

I deeply concur with the others, This is a cool-looking model!

Though as said, you may be a perfectionnist, but this termie looks just fine and finished for me.

However, if you want things to improve, the base looks a bit "cheap", a simple brushing on the grass in bleached bone or maybe catachan green could help make it look a bit more natural.

I'd like to paint like that when I'm "rusted"... xD

more pics... decided to do some artwork on the power fist and redo the gun casing.

Feeling a little less rusty, though my lettering skills seem to have abandoned me... :-p

Great work. I actually like this look of battle damage over the usual excessive highlighting. I am moving more in that direction with my World Eaters since it suits the chapter.

I was going to say the only thing I'd change is the fist needed something.... then I see you did something. Well done.

Alsways good to see my favorite chapter getting a good paint job. Your shading is excellent and , while I think it's a bit excessive, I really do like the weathering and battle damage.

Your freehand work is truly amazing. Seriously, you think you're rusty?

Don't worry about lettering. Your letters look fine but the placement is just a little off. Usually I paint duplicates on a flat surface and practice lettering there a couple times before doing it on the real surface. That way I know where to start and place the letters so I don't screw up any freehand work underneath.

After your touch up work, the only thoughts that came into my head were that i need to go back to painting school... I mean, my attempts to paint properly seem several notches away from even meeting the mid ground on your "rusty" paint job.

You've definitely met the table top standard and surpassed it with flying colors :D

It's a nice model but you won't win. Someone will sell there soul and do a 60 hour job or something... I'm gonna do the nob me thinks and I'm kinda limiting myself in how much time I have to work on one random ork.

I have to agree with the crowd that your idea of 'rusty' is humbling. I have now decided to paint the ork.

One question though, where's the skull with the bullet hole in the forehead. I thought that was part of the model too? I wasn't quite sure what to do with it. So we can just not include it?

That's still on the sprue. Keep that for my bits box. :-) I agree I don't think this one would win, but it's not a bad effort.

Erm, let me see if I can remember what I did and what I used...

Chaos black spray undercoat after cleanup. No GLUE! It's not needed and being able to take the arms off is a godsend.

Armour is scab red highlighted with vallejo flat red and a vallejo flat red / flat yellow mix. Black washes for deep shading.

The beige armour is a black / bleached bone mix. Fairly thick paint used, I wanted to give the surface some texture to take damage and washes to weather it.

Damage is vallejo natural steel edged with a fairly thin scorched brown / black mix.

Quick update of the WIP... bit of tidying up done. Still might have to strip and redo the badge shoulder:

Much neater with a redone base:

Might sharpen up the eyes a bit... they look a bit fuzzy in these shots, think it's the glosscoat on them.
