Old School Land Raider -> Crusader

So takin' a break from inhaling glue fumes, metal filings, and lead dust, thought I'd post some pix of what I'm working on to gauge any interest in further pictures. It's for the hard-boys tourney next weekend, so the break won't be too long.

As you can see, its an old style land raider that is going to be a land raider crusader. The hurricane bolters just fit right in to the door openings, no biggie there. Need to finish stripping the paint off em tho.

Haven't green stuffed yet, and going to put the frag launchers in the boxy areas off the treads in the front. Had to cut them in half and will still need to green stuff (milliput actually) the hell out of em to get them to look ok (they are as wide as the box but slightly longer, gonna need to cut the bottom of the box off).

Anyway, Baal predator assault cannons, the regular LRC multi-melta. Like I said, I still need to fill gaps, plug holes, put on smoke launchers, and things like that. Tried to use as many original parts as possible (the boxy engine, hatch, all that).

Lemme know if more/better pictures are desired or updates.

Last couple shots have a furioso dread I've been working on. Out of focus/hard to see... didn't take much time on the photos. Workin with lead figs is always so much fun... wearing gloves and a mask.

My beaky army will be at GT Baltimore, if you are in desperate need of wanting to make fun of someone's figs.

Pictures are massive giantor... didn't have the energy to go in and edit them down.

Oh, and before anyone goes crazy about me abusing almost antique models... they are salvage jobs. I took em out of simple green a few days ago to remove the paint job. So no worries, they weren't an attic find pristine mint condition deal, just someone else's figs I ended up with.

Now I do have a "devastators" old school box (mole mortar, land speeder, tarantula) never been assembled box with Styrofoam, but not land raiders :o

edit: Couple hours later.... Had already cut the door tabs off and sanded the door area flush, cleaned up my hurricane bolter modern land raider cradle piece, test fitted it, and was about to glue it on and realised:

There is only one side door on the old model, and putting the h-bolters there would fill it. So replanned things, gonna have the hbolters stuck where the lcannon mount would be. Yeah, they stick out a bit, and yeah, the model will be aesthetically front heavy (at least until big banners get put in the back), but guys can still get out the side.

Oh, and Hurricane bolters? OF THE DEVIL! Even with gel super glue, filing, fitting, filing, setting, gluing, holding, positioning, etc etc... still wants to fall apart.

You have no idea how jealous I am of three old school landraiders.

Best of luck with the hurricane bolters... might want to wait for the new plastic kit? Or convert you're own? They don't like the new landraider, which is the kit they're made for, so I doubt they'll go easy with those old LRs.

Related question: Do you have an army of RT guys or just the dread and LRs? I'm working on an old school army myself, but it's in no state to show here just yet...

I am drooling the drool of jealousy here. But I just don't see how so many of you have trouble with the hurricane bolter racks, I had no problems with mine on-top of not even having to pin them, they're staying strong months after putting the beastie together

I've actually got about 6 old school LRs. More money than sense, apparently.

Whole army is RT era-ish. Land speeders, dreads, beakies, rhinos, all of it. No jetbikes, and the termies are not the totally nutso looking ones they first came out with, but all-in-all, most models are old.

I started playing way back then and have just accumulated more and more over the years. Got about 200? beakies (metal/plastics) that at my current painting rate will take about 200 years to paint.
