Alright so the other day I went and picked up 500pts of DA which includes:

a Chaplain

2 veteran squads-being used as 5 man tactical squads

and an assault squad

Not too sure how long this will be taking me, since I am atm studying for an exam I'll be writing on thursday, ppl r trying 2 rush me 2 next week, which is achievable for me but so far I set my goal 2 get everything done by 2 weeks.

So I'm going 2 go take some pics for u guys and upload for what I've got done in the past 2 days.

the helmet wings you have on the jump pack are upside down....

are you planning on doing the whole chapter using vet DA as tacs? if you are then....

THAT WOULD BE SOO COOL!!

*Ahem* sorry.... lol

Meh, maybe I'll turn the wings around.

As for the Vets as Tactical marines.....HECK YES!

I love all the extra goodies u get in the box's, and I want the majority of my marines 2 be in robes. Considering it's now $25 canadian for a DA vet squad u can't go wrong.

I've primed the tactical squads tho, on the way back in I droped the Sarg from the second squad....so he's being fixed atm lol, only thing that poped off was his flag so no bigy.

I'll be posting some progression soon, but first I need 2 go get some GS at the local workshop.

Well here's what I've done so far today, one tactical squad has it's green base-coat and I did the highlighting on one marine. Wanted 2 see what u guys think of my highlighting before I continue onward tho. Also my other tactical squad has been Primed and I will be doing the base-coat after this post.

The highlighting is a little different then what I'm used 2 doing but I really like the way it turned out.

Those 2 white spots close 2 the feet only show up in picture's so don't worry about them.

Ya I understand it is bright compared 2 many DA armies that ppl are used 2 seeing, although it's not as bright as shown on the camera, while it is still bright for DA I really do like the color and the Idea of tableing my own slightly "different" DA army.

I dont think the green is too bright.

It is one of the brightest i've seen on DA,but i like it and think that it looks quite effective.

Look at the last pic,the marine on the right who's robes have been painted.

Against the darker colours of the unfinished robes the green apears quite bright, but on this marine the green seems about right.

Good work, looking forward to seeing tham all finished!

I agree, the highlighting is a bit overpowering for Dark Angels, but thats comparing to mine which is a further darkened DA green over chaos black :), they are dark angels after all.

Good luck on your robed marines endeavour, I used some for my sternguards and I'm sick of them robes already :D.

Hey looks great buddy. Great work for a first army. I'm partial to darker greens but thats because I have a really dark painting style. Hey don't forget, black wash is your friend ! hit that green with a black wash once you're done highlighting and you won't be dissappointed!

Hey that's pretty funny actually, my brother just went 2 the local workshop 2 pick me up some Black wash and some greenstuff for my assault squads back packs(the 2 sides don't match up so well...) but anyway's thanks for the C & C brother's.

btw I leave today in a few hours so I wont be posting any progression till Sunday/Monday. I'm off to Toronto, maybe I'll check their local workshop.

I like the green myself, but you could always consider a dark wash of some kind to tone it down a little if you wanted.

From your first pics it looks like you've used super glue to put the models together though, which might cause problems around the joints. Where that stuff dries you might get some unwanted texture on exposed parts of the models. I strongly reccomend you go over to using polystyrene cement if this is the case, super glue is best used on metal miniatures.

its been said before but a wash of Thrakka Green or Badab Black would give you a better depth of colour and tone down the slightly bright highlighting however youve done great painting these guys so far.

keep up the great work.

+++ edit +++

nice work on the robes by the way. im really liking what youre doing so far.

Ok so I'm back from Toronto guys, I'll be painting tonight and tomorrow as much as possible. Only problem is I wont be able 2 post any pic's untill tomorrow night or tuesday depending on what time I get home with the camera.

I think you're doing a great job on the green. If you do decide to tone it down a bit (I'm a big fan of soft contrasts), then rather than go straight with a black wash, I would consider a green:black wash (3 drops green:1 drop black) thinned down quite a bit and then applied in layers. It's always a lot easier to slowly darken a color, then try to go back and lighten it up because you overwashed it.

Keep up the good work, your finished robe (the one of the right) looks very good.

Cheers,

Thank you for the advice Honda I think I'll do that once I've done some more work on the models. Also really sorry I haven't been able 2 post pictures in almost a week now guys , I've just been really tied down atm, I have however managed 2 get quite a bit done, although not as much as I had planed.

I managed 2 prime both the chaplain and the assault squad, finish the green on all models, get the first highlight on to all the robes, and finish the chaplains black and bone pieces.

Tonight I plan on finishing all robes and get some detailwork in before I post some pic's tomorrow.

Oh also something really cool, I found out that some of my brothers friends also do collect 40K so him and I will be getting into some games against their Dark Eldar and Necron.

Also something I failed 2 mention in posting this topic, I have only pained one other model before starting this army. so lemme know if this is good for my first few models <_<

This seems like an awesome thread to follow. I started (Nid's were a fail) my first army as DA also! I bought one of those Megabattle sets..awesome.

I'm really liking your painting right now, but maybe you could do some experimenting with the highlighting. Try a drybrush instead of extreme, it might not be as bright.

For a whole company of robed vets. I went that way too. Unless you've got some nice large piles of $$....it might be a hard task. You only get 5 vets a box, which means you need to buy 20 boxes, and since you live in CA, that'll be $500. Pretty expensive...Good luck.

Good stuff too
