++Nurgle/Death Guard Showcase++

Iron-Daemon Forge

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

It seems wrong that a lot of the forums on the B&C (Space Wolves, Black Templars, etc...) all have a showcase for their armies. So, as of now, us Chaos Marine players have one as well.

So let see them Chaos armies.

Also one VERY important note, please keep off posting if you have no image to show (i.e. just post the image(s) & a little bit about your chaos army in the topic. Any post that has no images will be deleted, any questions for the members about their armies? please PM them.

So to start thing off

Here's my Nurgle Chaos force before the codex was updated, haven't had much time for them but will try get them done that some point

Finial note is, rememeber we have a gallery area as well for some of the Legion armies

Thanks

I have a lot more nurgly stuff waiting to be painted but I chose to just take a pick of those that are finnished or close to finnished.

This is an overview:

30 Marines, 28 Plaguebearers, 2 Preds, 2 Rhinos, 7 nurglings, 1 Demon Prince, 7 Termis, Typhus, 1 GUO

What will come: 2 Princes, one scratch built soul grinder and a LandRaider OR a Cybot, I still don't know what would be coolr, probably the Cybot fits in better for more variety!

And this guy I second after my girlfriend! I love it!

Hi, this is the start of my Death Guard. Please note, I did not do any of the painting/custom work. I simply wanted to own/appreciate a showcase army. Most of the pieces have insane amounts of custom work done to them while the actual marines are forgeworld kits. Enjoy.

Here's a wide view of my DG. I've gone with a filthed-up white scheme as opposed to the more traditional green, but there's plenty of green pus and disease on the models' details. I just got a camera recently, so I'm still working on getting close-ups of my guys. I'll post my DP in that thread, too.

gallery_33361_1991_39670.jpg

You may note in the center of the group a bunch of zombies (some with guns!). I've collected the army based on the Zombie Plague references. Typhus leads this merry band around infecting planets near the Cadian Gate (very appropriately, my brother plays IG). I use the zombies to count as Lesser Daemons for the moment, but once I get to Apocalypse levels, they'll be zombies once again! Staying with the theme, I'd like to pick up the Terminus Est model some day, and make a turn counter with it - it'll look good, and be functional.

My latest (3rd overall) Death GUard army:

Rhinos:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161513.jpg

Three of them, One w/extra armour. I wanted that one to be more weathered than the two. Also I think the regular Dozer Blades look too big so I slapped on a piece of a Corpse Cart to represent Dozer Blade:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161515.jpg

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161516.jpg

The Land Raider:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161517.jpg

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161518.jpg

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161519.jpg

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161520.jpg

Some might think the weathering is over the top, but I wanted to make it look like an ancient relic. It had to be more weathered than the Rhino.

Oil leaks, soot, rust and scratches.

The Termies/Deathshroud:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161521.jpg

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161522.jpg

I'm pleased with these fellas. I fixed the Autocannon since someone (Cassarus?) pointed out that is should be a Reaper Autocannon. So chop! and a little plastic rod. I think that the red contrast color works especially well on these boys.

1st Squad:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161523.jpg

2nd Squad:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161524.jpg

3rd Squad (squad Pa-hill):

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161525.jpg

Nothing fancy, only a little soot/explosion marks from Plasma overheating.

Squad 4:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161526.jpg

Close combat monster Dread Garro:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161527.jpg

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161528.jpg

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161529.jpg

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/pake666/P3161530.jpg

Again, I used the red as a contrast color. I was going to use white on the scarf to tie him with Mortarion but I went for red and used it as a "rank color". The PM's have no red, Termies have a little and Dread Garro has even more.

WIP Mortarion:

While not death guard per say, my red rings of death just need some repairs and paint: here is a somewhat older army pic (main difference is that I have new obliterators. also, in addition to the plastic dp, i also have the finecast one, now.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/8/13/258133_sm-.JPG

The full army. The green dp is no longer in the army, I replaced him with the nurgle finecast one.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/8/13/258134_sm-.JPG

Nurgle terminators. I painted them a bit more after this pic, and they are mainly converted from aobr, etc. They are still far from finished.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/8/13/258135_sm-.JPG

Plastic dp. I should probably strip the paint, as he now has at least two coats :(

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/8/13/258136_sm-.JPG

Plague marine rhino squad. All of my plague marine squads have 7 guys, 2 with plasma gun in each. Yep, all 4 of them...

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/8/13/258137_sm-.JPG

More plague marines. They have been completed (sans bases) long after this pic.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/8/13/258139_sm-.JPG

Plague marines again. Not much to say about these guys.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/8/13/258140_sm-.JPG

Still more plague marines. You may find some possessed-looking guys in some of these squads...

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/8/13/258141_sm-.JPG

One of my favorite plague marines. I converted him to look like the a classic one.

It's no big surprise that I run Black Legion as my supremo force of choice, and have ever since 3.5. That being said, I have been known to "collect" things belonging to other Legions/warbands to fight under the banner of Abaddon's oversight for however long is deemed necessary to accomplish the task. Recently, I've become sort of an Accept All Challenges hackey sack at my local LGS for their 40K League, and in so doing have earned the enmity of several other players who just can't seem to get over losing to a craptastic Codex like the CSM one. One of these individuals is a Tau player who dabbles with SMs as a secondary army, and he's become obsessed with punishing me with his older army's older Codex as a strange species of ritualistic trial. He's already fought me once with his cloven-hoofed space sheep at 1850 points and lost, and has had the temerity to demand a rematch at 2000 points, which I've accepted. As with the 1850 game, the Despoiler has selected a proper representative to punish the little blue Commies, and that individual is the Traveller himself, Typhus, the Herald of Nurgle.

I hate playing with unpainted models, so it became a must before the 1850 game that I get off my butt, stop painting Berserkers, and start painting Typhus. Now, I considered Typhus a greater painting challenge than just about any I'd done before, primarily because a- he's a weird blend of metallics and organics, and B- because I really didn't have a lot of information about what he actually looked like after his departure from the Death Guard to accept his greater role as the Destroyer Hive. I basically had two sources to go on: Flight of the Eisenstein for his Death Guard days, and Cadian Blood for his post-Nurglicious state of being. Flight didn't give me a whole lot to go on except for that he wore Terminator armor and carried a Manreaper, his armor coloring was never described but I assumed it either bore the white and green of the Death Guard or the pure iron and brass of the Deathshroud and Mortarion as described. Cadian Blood was heavily descriptive of the mess his armor had become since his transformation, with tarnished being too light a descriptor for the cosmetic ravaging as well as the "immersed in the deep sea for decades" sort of scabby barnacles and bony protrusions growing out of points random and diverse. Given what information I had, and after a Google image search of examples of Typhus painted by others, I decided to go with a different scheme than the typical green hue normally used for him.

I opted to go with the Deathshroud iron-and-brass combo, but I needed to make it look ancient. Boltgun Metal, even when heavily washed, tends to retain a shininess I wanted to avoid; this armor hasn't seen Brasso in thousands of years, so for the iron I went with a non-metallic metallic paintjob based primarily on Codex Gray and Skull White, with a very watered-down Chaos Black "wash", over a Chaos Black basecoat that gave it the look of iron that might once have been burnished but has since been neglected and corrupted. The shoulderpad trim and the Nurgle Fly got hit with Vallejo's Tarnished Brass, which was perfectly suited to represent a different metal than the rest of the armor and with the application of some Badab Black wash it lost all sense of shiny entirely. After a very light drybrushing of Rotting Flesh over the entire surface where metal tended to meet something organic (pretty much everywhere), another light drybrush of Vallejo's Hammered Copper provided the all-important rust element to the entire thing, especially around where something hive-ish or bone-ish had punched through the armor and wept juices all over the metal for arguably millennia. The organics got a hit of Bleached Bone, followed by a drybrush of Vallejo's Aged Bone, a "highlight" of Rotting Flesh, and a Devlan Mud wash to age them up nicely along with the armor. Chains got the Boltgun Metal followed by Hammered Copper and Badab Black. The Nurgling clinging to the side of Typhus' armor is Gretchin Green with a Thraka Green wash, Macharius Orange eyes, and little nails of Aged Bone.

The Manreaper provided its own challenge, primarily in the haft of the weapon itself. The model made it obviously a wood of some type, I assumed probably something chemically petrified and probably from Barbarus, so I used Deneb Stone on the exposed portions and just washed it with Badab Black. The wrappings on the haft were Kommando Khaki with a Devlan Mud wash. The generator is basically Tin Bitz and Badab Black, while the blade is a combination of Tin Bitz and Tarnished Brass, with the edge lined in Reaper's Blue Steel, and then the whole thing got a Thraka Green glaze to give it the look of a proper poisoned daemon weapon that for all its age looks extremely able to lay fools low in a horrific manner.

Anyway, Typhus has led his battlegroup of Plague Marines, Nurgle-Iconed CSMs, and Obliterator support to two victories thus far, once against the Tau and once against a Shrike-led Raven Guard force, and remains undefeated while only suffering one Wound in the span of both battles. I look quite forward to fielding him against the Tau again soon, where more lives will be harvested for the embrace of the Grandfather and the glory of Chaos. I thereby take great pleasure in introducing you all to my interpretation of Typhus. I hope he meets the satisfaction of the Legio Morbidus.

It's been ages since I've been on B&C, (As if my signature didn't give that away, and mostly due to the rushing onset of post-college life eating away at my money and free time to Warhammer) but I'm back.

Recently finalized collection of a Death Guard army that I wanted to be far more about how I felt the flavor of Death Guard would be lore-wise, than competitive.  To that end it's pure DG codex, (no min-maxing type stuff) it has some vehicles; but more than anything, it's about a tide of really gross dudes wandering across the board like a disgusting horde and then chopping/shooting things to pieces. "Lumbering" is the overall word I'd use for it.  Looking at B&C I noticed that the showcases for Chaos, in particular Death Guard, have been less than stellar in recent years.  So, let's get this party started with four different pics of the army in question.

It's definitely not a paintjob of GW level "ever-single-damn-detail" , but the scheme is lovingly "Nurgle" and holds up to even "held in your hand" standards.  Dupe models because lots of the DG models are amazing, yet limited in variety.  Despite this, I feel they don't clash nearly as bad as say, the old school Macragge marines. in fact, it's pretty hardly noticeable, at least to me when playing the army, without paying attention to try and pick them out.

Army comp is:

  • A buttload of poxwalkers
  • Shooty and melee chunks of cultists
  • Just shy of 30 plague marines (two plasma squads for ranged objective holding, and a larger "get in their face" squad for the rest)
  • Some shroud-termies
  • A couple chaos lords for rerolls and babysitting, one in termi armor to hop in with the shrouds and do some backlines nuking with the helm, stratagems, etc...
  • Some lords of contagion for residual mortal wound generation and melee chunkyness
  • A pair of plaguecasters for magic goodness
  • Bog-standard helbrute, because why not for those points. Fun, can be nurgly, and fun rules.
  • A pair of blightbringers (to get that horde across the board the best it can),
  • A pair of sickness mortars, because they're pretty and tons of fun as well
  • Three shooty drones for initial harassment and reactionary fun (Also to suicide bomb if need be)
  • A pair of metal boxes to get the plasma lads where they need to go and then suicide bomb if need be.
  • A couple "chosen" models to act as objective markers.

I know it's not "very competitive"  but it brings to the table the fun of taking many models off the board and having a good time, something I feel most MEQ armies don't get to enjoy.  So, below, find the army "The Inexorable Demise" split into an army wide, then three section shots. (I can do more closeup details of every side if folks want to request it/are that interested)

Middle Section:

Here is my entire Death force I've converted and been painting for most of this year

Mainly Infantry based wretched list backed up by walkers and other daemon engines which I'm  slowly starting to include more tanks now as get more games in and try them out

I more like converting models and building an army around them trying to include them somehow in games even if not the greatest. Started up after getting a weird idea for a converted defiler and building an atmy up around that 20220726_212423.thumb.jpg.e09f9e7f3eb298a2bbbf2d3fa365747c.jpg20220726_212419.thumb.jpg.66326d86a5881aca2169b1f4ed67667e.jpg20220726_212407.thumb.jpg.62060343bb7cc97f56ba82e0c65f689b.jpg20220726_212417.thumb.jpg.8f50b8de8032e20a093cadf5d600b115.jpg20220726_212408.thumb.jpg.bac6cccb8011dd2fc8aa0f3c7a2fee55.jpg20220726_212414.thumb.jpg.908f9798a7797179e34e41d1092d2f1e.jpg20220726_212415.thumb.jpg.0c79b908e4ed007a6e6e4fe0c3b2e275.jpg20220726_212410.thumb.jpg.6e9e7acff46bb4a2013a8683007f8231.jpg20220726_212405.thumb.jpg.8a07e037404812e15e3f40277fb3f37d.jpg
