Sorry I haven't updated for a while guys...

I've been busy building this for a friend:

But lets not go into that, Anyway, this is a slightly outdated army pic, I'll get a new one soon:

I've started work on some more hardcore veterans to work with my force, first the Dreadnought from AOBR:

I also started the repaint of my sternguard:

And started my Thunder Hammer Termi sarge:

Along with this, I tried my luck on an assault marine:

And the Company Champion is pretty much finished and on display (just need to paint around the base):

Speaking of my display, I will try painting it later in the week to match my bases and here is a pic of everything that is finished so far:

Oh and 1 more thing [/Jackie Chan cartoon Uncle impression] I tried painting the black armour on cassius:

Here he is with 3 coats of badab black on mithril, I wish i did it with boltgun now, oh well:

C&C much needed.

Thanks ;)

EDIT: now I can go and play in the snow WOOT! :P

Ooohh... I see a Dreadnought! They look all look really good Metcalfedan. :tu: Don't make us wait so long for an update next time. J/K :D

I'll try :)

What do you think of the black on cassius? I might have to leave it at that because anymore layers and I could start to loose detail, I already have on his left shoulder...

I decided to try this tonight, even though I'm pretty new to painting minis. In fact, I'm so new that the picture I'm posting here is the first I've considered to be complete. There's definitely a lot of room for improvement. ;)

I didn't set out to make the armor gold, it was a total accident. Before it became gold, it was black metallic. This was after about 4 layers of the black Citadel wash. I mixed what I intended to be some very dark grey to try to highlight the armor and it turned out to tint it goldish. This is a result of my Game Color Smoky Ink being very dark brown instead of black, as I was expecting.

Anyway, enough preamble, here's the pic. As I said, this is my first mini and I know there are things that I could've done better. The chest eagle is a good example, as it looks 10x better from the opposite angle, with silver highlights against the gold. It's sort of mashed up from this angle.

C&C are of course welcome.

Ps. Yeah, there's a lot of crap in this pic which would seem to indicate that I've been doing this for a while but I've mainly just been experimenting with things since I've never done anything like this before. I have a box full of attempts that I need to rework.. lol.

LOL. You're far, far too kind.

There were some posts about highlighting the armor a ways up and they're right, it's difficult to get the hue just right. I found a color to use for it by accident (go figure, again) when I was trying to touch up some slop around my repaint of the head.

At this point I'm using Vallejo Game Color metallics so I mixed up a bit of the tin, gold and smoky ink, which was a bit more bronze colored and produced a nice highlight. I just hit the tops of stuff on the side this picture was taken.

When I fixed the head, I covered up everything but the eyes - which turned out pretty good (GC blues) - with GW Astronomicon Grey (whatever the light grey Foundation is called.... I bought the set since I couldn't figure out how to get paint to cover evenly at first) and then highlighted it from this side with some straight Vallejo white.

Oh, and sorry about the phone camera picture. I don't have a dedicated photo camera.

This technique is really great, started on Kantor using this technique. Unfortunatly I have not gotten to doing the red areas on him yet.

On a side note, any word on the bronze color? I personally have not had time for trying it out myself.

But how many of those guys have Pfists? Because it looks to me like all of them do.

EDIT: Also good work and i do agree the black could be darker but i can offer no advice as i cant paint for [insert word here]

The whole squad has power fists and the sergeant has a thunder hammer. In normal 40K games they just count as close combat weapons, because after all a power fist is a "close combat weapon". And in Apocalypse games they are an uber-vanguard-titan-killer-of-doom squad. hehe

Oh, and how did you come across painting them this way? Were you experimenting?

Not quite sure, I think it was experimenting, yeah, yeah it was, when I started to paint a Legio B&C "sternguard" squad I tried this technique on their right shoulder pads :(

Oh yeah, here you go hubs, some more shots of "flipper" from when he wasn't a Crimson Fist:

You can tell I like to recycle old minis...
