Eberious
Ebay pretty good, got a fairly large Sm fleet for about £62, a fleet that would of cost about £180. As for color I went for the classic white hull with red prow. Here. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05818.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05819.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05820.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05821.jpg Anyways, took some pics of flagship (The Eternal Crusader) for my BT fleet, it isnt legal but if players agree to fight it, then yay. It's a pure beardy cheese beast of a ship. Shortsonfire79
Very beardy :) Just so everyone knows, That is Eberious' ship, not my own. This is my next one, Its really long, but it will be bulked out enough where it won't look so bad. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/myphoto12.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151343-spaceit-seems-to-go-on-forever/page/8/#findComment-2348926 Share on other sites
Eberious
Beardy, wait till you see the Eternal crusader. ;) . I'll post that on my own thread to avoid hi-jacking yours. Ship should look good, you got plenty of gubbins to finish a ship that size. Shortsonfire79
Eberious, I checked out your thread, from a couple years ago in fact. I would like to ask you to update it. I'm quite fond of your ideas, and I'd like to see what else you may have. And..I'd like to steal an idea or two, if thats alright with you. Please post in it so I could post in it as well without getting nicked for Threadmancy. Wonderful work by the way. I've started work on yet another battleship though. The flagship, please note the antenna. I haven't glued on the top plate yet, as I need to make the hull one, solid piece. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/myphoto-2.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/myphoto2-2.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/myphoto3-2.jpg And I've added those auxiliary engines like I talked about...on the dual hulled ship. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/myphoto4-2.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151343-spaceit-seems-to-go-on-forever/page/8/#findComment-2353833 Share on other sites
Eberious
Looking good, certainly going take a few hit points to take out. And thanks, its been a while. However not sure what thread you mean. I searched for my old stuff on another forum. Did I post somthing here?? Eberious
AAAh yes, I remember now, obviously with link provided. I don't know about bringing that up to date I might incur the wrath of "why you bring it back" types. lol But what the hey, I got a few new ships. My Eternal Crusader I've been banging on about and a new design for a strike crusier. Not hugely different. Will be update next 30 mins or so. Along with my BA stuff. Busy night. Shortsonfire79
Wonderful! Have fun with that  BA stuff is pleasant, of course. I'll be looking for it. Shortsonfire79
So I've done a lot of stuff today. Spring break is almost over, and I'm finally getting productive...great... But, it other than that, I've been busy all day, and still have time to get a bit of modeling done. (Mind you, I had strong coffee this morning, and I don't drink coffee...and I had a pepsi with dinner :P) so I have my flagship, now covered. She needs some details along the top part, port and starboard weapons, and a bridge and an engine section. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/myphoto6-1.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/myphoto7-1.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/myphoto8-1.jpg And thanks to Eberious, over on BolterandChainsword, for posting in my thread, and then resurrecting his BFG thread, I have some ideas I can use on my cruisers when they get here :D But until then, here are the 3 ships I have as they stand. All are built off of Battleship chassis, and all are unfinished :P http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/myphoto9-1.jpg And a size comparison. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/myphoto10-2.jpg Only 12 more battleships to go, then the rest of the fleet. Crazy, yes. Probably not going to finish...yeah... Shortsonfire79
Not really exciting, but just so you know the thread isn't dead, I just received my shipments, so I'll be able to finish some ships soon ;) I'm just getting a feel of the two plastic kits now, and I'll have my ideas up and running later http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/IMG_3084.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/IMG_3083.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/IMG_3081.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151343-spaceit-seems-to-go-on-forever/page/8/#findComment-2359749 Share on other sites
Shortsonfire79
I've mocked up two of my ships. RogueTrooper
Looks pretty good there lad, the recent BFG threads here have got me more than interested in the game. Just bought a IN Retribution BS and a SM Crusier to play around with and get the feel for BFG Miniatures, hopefully it may be a start to a NovaMarines fleet... Shortsonfire79
Well, good that I inspired someone :) I'm working on another ship, 2 Imperial Cruisers glued together on the bottom axis. Top http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/IMG_3146.jpg Bottom: Good for bombarding planets -_- http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/IMG_3147.jpg how it'll look on a stand http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/IMG_3149.jpg And size comparison to the flagship http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/myphoto-4.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151343-spaceit-seems-to-go-on-forever/page/8/#findComment-2375338 Share on other sites
Shortsonfire79
So I guess I should finally post what I've been scheming these past few days. I had purchased a Retribution Battleship and a Battlebarge in hope of conglomerating one large ship, something that screamed different-ness from the rest of the superships. After acquiring my pieces (3 days after I ordered by the way, thank you GW!) I quickly set about opening the boxes...and staring at my parts for 4 days.... Then I finally started cutting the metal (pain in the butt process) and wasn't exactly pleased with the lack of ideas I was coming up with. Then I realized that I received two left-side pieces, so I'll be making a call to GW tomorrow. But this is the rough outline of what I'll be making these coming days. Its not much, but it is slightly larger than my other ships, and it is bulkier and a bit more in every way (and it'll be slightly different soon). This is the bunch-o-pieces I received  And all the plastics I had left over. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_0831.jpg http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_0830-1.jpghttp://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_0829-1.jpg And they gave me a ton of extra pieces! I received 2 extra battleship engines, 3 extra Retribution bridges, and a bunch of little fin thingies. This was the initial, failure design. It is held together by blue tac, and it is in several pieces, at several levels, at several angles :) http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_0863-4.jpg This is the most recent model. Mostly held together by blue tac still, some of it has actually been glued together (The three pieces in the back, pictures to follow.) I'm not sure if I like the Battlebarge cannons on the side like that, but I know I want it elongated to this length (thanks to some Orky Kunning, and LEGO pieces) And I know that this will have 2 lance batteries and two hangars. I would like the broadside guns, but I'm not sure how those will go yet. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_0908.jpg This is the piece that is glued together (and inverted.) As you can see, there are inch-and-a-half long pins running through it. I needed strength in this model, because its metal, and a tiny bit of glue will not hold it together. On the left side, the pins go into the model about half an inch... Imagine doing that by hand...NOT fun.... And while you're at it, imagine cutting off that metal box thing, from the tip of a Battlebarge...EQUALLY as fun. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_0909.jpg And this is the center piece, made with LEGO. I'm not sure I want to leave it like this, but with a bit of detailing, it should come out to be okay. Of course, where the LEGO meets the battleship, that will be pinned, and lined up correctly, with the adequate amount of detailing along the top and bottom. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_0910.jpg Size comparison! From smallest to largest. All of them are unfinished...even the painted one... ;) http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/myphoto-1.jpg And I also have unfinished Frigate things!...meh. hahahaha http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_0833.jpg Man..in hindsight. I had expected this post to be über awesome, and meaty, and more awesome...but its just a conglomeration of words and models that hardly anyone knows anything about...how depressing ;) ...And then I found $20 :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151343-spaceit-seems-to-go-on-forever/page/8/#findComment-2508485 Share on other sites
Shortsonfire79
Not really sure of what I'm doing guys...I like BFG, but I can't find a way into it. I kinda like what I have, but I don't know where to go with it. I've taken some Work In Progress pictures, but I'm not sure they really show what I'm going after. This is whats actually pinned and glued together (broke 3 drill bits trying to get 1 in pin holes...) http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_1048.jpg This is what I'm working on at the moment. I've already cut a lot, and shaved a lot of the inside down to get it to fit, but I'm not sure of how I like it. I like it in the way that it bulks up the rear end of the ship, but its not entirely fitting. (Wasted 2 SM Strike Cruisers in the doing too...) Don't worry, I have a piece to fill in the blank, square shaped hole, its just not in the pictures. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_1043.jpg http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_1044.jpg I'm thinking of making the prow like this. I'll probably add a third section, since this thing is a bit lacking in weaponry at the moment. If not, I may possibly add a fourth too. I'm not sure about that one yet. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_1047.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151343-spaceit-seems-to-go-on-forever/page/8/#findComment-2536861 Share on other sites
Shortsonfire79
Gone a bit farther, I think I've just about figured it out. Worked on this for a while, but it seems I've barely made any progress (oh how I hate working with metal...) Starting with this: http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/myphoto-1-1.jpg DEAD DEAD DEAD! I ripped it apart, as this was a complete hunk of junk. I wouldn't be able to do anything with it, at all, and after looking at it seven months later, I don't like it at all. So, more metal bitz for the command hunk. Cut and paste... http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_1085.jpg + this http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/surge.jpg = this http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_1086.jpg Which is a nice piece of bit for me to use for the 'third' weapon point on my battleship, which has been glued like so. The top detail piece (obviously) has not been glued on. Nor has the neck been glued to the body either. I'm still working on filing down some details on the battlebarge nose piece to accommodate. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_1090-1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151343-spaceit-seems-to-go-on-forever/page/8/#findComment-2538409 Share on other sites
Eberious
liking the short stubby ship maybe without the front IN prow, although its bordering on becoming a ork battle crusier without the IN prow. Still very cool. Good to see you still working on this, but it would seem my photobucket acct has went over the limit. Shame more people arent into BFG. Shortsonfire79
Eberious: Yeah, I like it too, looks....compact, or something. It does look like a hulk though, like you say. I think the nose is a bit long, but I feel it needs at least 3 weapon points to make it a battleship. So I'm getting closer to the first ship of the line. Just need a rudder (which I have, just haven't worked on yet) and then a bit of detail around the bridge, and I can start painting something larger than a dinky frigate. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/myphoto-2-1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151343-spaceit-seems-to-go-on-forever/page/8/#findComment-2538941 Share on other sites
Shortsonfire79
Got some paint on them http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_1097.jpg http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_1096.jpg http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_1095.jpg Now I get to go through the tedious process of looking for all the little bitz that should be painted red and the like. I'm thinking that the prow color will be the stark bone, and the detail bitz will be done out of silver. On the flagship (still in construction, pictures above) the prow will be white, and the details will be gold. Shortsonfire79
Sorry Apex Predator. Haven't gotten far enough into the painting to apply any gold. Sorry. When I get there, I'll let you know. (Though the Castles of Steel thread will have some great tips there) So this is where I sit now, no weapons yet, except the ones near the bridge, and I haven't figured out how to squeeze the engines into the back. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_1216.jpg These are my choices for weapon load outs... Retribution (My favorite, though I don't know how game effective it'll be (not likely that I'd be playing any games with these ships anyways though)) http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_1217.jpg Emperor (I've kinda already made one of these with the dual hulled ship) http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_1218.jpg And the Apocalypse. Shortsonfire79
Quote “What was your first thought as you first laid eyes on The Glory?” “My first thought? Hmm… Well I had seen my fair share of battleships, Emperors, Retributions, and one or two Apocalypses. I had been told that The Glory was a top of the line, unique, and massive new battleship. So when I saw the prow of The Glory, I wasn’t impressed. As my shuttle rounded the moon towards the shipyard, I first saw the massive ventral cannon, and torpedo tubes dotting the armored nose of the ship. I instantly knew that I was looking at a Retribution. I wasn’t overly impressed… As more of the ship came into view, I noticed major changes in the hull design… and the bristling weapons, the large rear hull. It was a massive work of art. I was awe inspired by the sheer mass of the ship that was larger than any mad made object I had ever seen. Even some of the hive cities I’ve laid eyes on had nothing on this colossus. I was baffled to say the least.” “Mhmm, colossus…baffled… Alright, and how did you feel taking the role of captain of this ‘colossus’?” “Well, I’d been captain of a small frigate and a cruiser previously, never anything over three kilometers long. Now all of a sudden I had been promoted to captain a ship that would take me hours to walk down the length of it. I was nervous, and unsure of how to handle the goliath. I was uncertain of why the admirals had chosen me to lead this castle into the void, but I wasn’t going to object. I was told that I would be responsible for nearly 10 million crew members, and even Solar Admiral Pike as well. Yeah, I was nervous. I would have been happy to take role of first officer.” “Hmm…alright…and last one…what did you think of the firepower of The Glory?” “The ability to not have to close in range with the enemy is the main key of The Glory. I can sit back and hit the enemy hard, and then disgorge nearly 200 attack craft at once, which is enough to wipe out nearly anything. The several lance cannons on my ship are great for long range, far enough where if the enemy comes close to hit me, they’ll already be severely crippled. Torpedos are expensive pieces of weaponry, I tend to use my energy weapons when I have the chance, and hardly ever use torpedoes, though they do make fantastic fireworks.” “Okay, thank you for your time Captain Andrew McManus, your interview will surely be seen on every hive world in the Imperium. You are doing a fine job as captain, keeping Terra well protected." Unpainted view of the finished Glory http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/hh347/shortsonfire81/IMG_1616.jpg The other day, my dad had told me "I borrowed some of your black Krylon spray." I didn't mind. Until today, I found out that by 'borrowing' he meant he used all of it. I was kinda sad. Hahaha. So I used the gray Krylon that I had bought for the underside of my Thunderbolts (which one sold this morning for $145 :D ) http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/hh347/shortsonfire81/IMG_1619.jpg And I hand primed black. Never again will I have to do that...that was so horrible.. http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/hh347/shortsonfire81/IMG_1620.jpg And the blued finish project. I purposely added a last layer of skull white with a hint of ice blue in it to make my ship slightly lighter than all the others. Its noticeable, but it doesn't ruin the painting. http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/hh347/shortsonfire81/IMG_1628.jpg And with the left over paint, I repainted all the other ships in the fleet. So now we're all up to date. http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/hh347/shortsonfire81/IMG_1631.jpg And my family has been working on making our own beer the past week. And today we bottled it, to let ferment/gain carbonation for another 7 days. http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/hh347/shortsonfire81/IMG_8757.jpg http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/hh347/shortsonfire81/IMG_8775.jpg 2.5 gallons worth of a honey wheat hefenweizen. DavidKits
i know it sounds weird... and your project is amazing i love the massive length of that ship. *looks at it and rubs my chin* though oddly enough the more i look at it the more i can't help but think of the SDF-1 from Macross...
