Why do you play daemons?

Pretty much as the title says, I'm interested in what made you all decide to play a pure daemon force. Personally, I've always wanted a pure daemon force, but could never afford them until they brought out the plastic minis, something about the raw hatred and power of the daemons speaks to me on a very deep level (OK, that sounds bad). What about you?

Reason for edit- Ruddy typos.

Well, I haven't actually played with them yet... I do have one box of Bloodletters and a scratch sculpted Herald of Tzeentch though. And a 500pts list.

As for why, there are three major reasons. My Wolves are nearing 6K pts and I've decided to call them done (sort of...) until a new codex. So for a complete change of pace I picked Daemons. Also, I wanted something noone at my club had... which ruled out everything bar Daemons and Space Pixies, Black Templars and SoB. Templars bore me, don't know why, SoBs are too expensive and even less likely to be updated than the Wolves and I can't be bothered with RAW and FAQ problems for both my Armies (which is a shame, as if the support was there I probably would have gone with them.) Space Pixies... nuff said, really.

Also, I like the idea of Traitor Guard with the new Dex and my brother has some old CSM's, so I could have a nice Apoc force when I'm done.

Finally, for the Schools League I wanted something murderously competitive - Daemons seemed the nastiest.

Two birds with one stone!

Many of the 40K gamers are switching to Fantsay in my area.

With the risk of not finding an opponent to play, figured I might aswell jump on the band wagon and start a fantasy army aswell! But what if I don't enjoy Fantasy? easy solution, play 40K daemons! :(

Just trying to work out the best basing solution - I think I might just base them all on square bases - seems less important in 40K to have the correct sized / shaped base.

Edit: haven't played them yet (in either system) still buying up the models...

I play daemons because when the release came out i hade most of an army already.

as for mortiferum's basing, you should use round bases. In fantasy you need to base them on 25mm square bases but would most likely be using a movement tray which hides the fact youre using round bases.

I've always liked the Chaosy side of Chaos, the weird gribbly stuff beyond your average emo marine. We're talking Realms of Chaos type stuff. The Daemon book gives ==Me== just that, an army of Chaos I can get behind. Add in the super awesome models, unique style of play and having 1 army for 2 systems (I play Fantasy too) and I'm sold.

I play it because I was forced to. Now, if they had stayed in the overall Chaos codex then it wouldn't have been an issue, but here we are...

I simply had all of the models from before. Well, my girlfriend's models. She likes daemons and chaos, so I am fortunate to be able to field them when she's busy.

Basing solution: since they all come with both, mount them on round ones, then sticky-tac them to square ones for Fantasy. S'what I do anyhow.

The problem with this is what about juggers and beasts and bloodthirsters, what don't go on movement trays?

This is why I use square bases and all the 40k people I play againt don't mind.

I play daemons because they play in a very different way to most of the other races. I think as a tournament army they are perhaps a bit too random and unpredictable for a lot of people but if you can get past the almost orky part of deep striking them they are a great list. In fact I have found as a fairly experienced player that winning with them hasn't been too difficult. So far my record has been 4/1/1.

Rant mode on. I wish that the chaos codex hadn't changed as much as it did and I didn't use to use daemons with my emperor's children. I feel that the way that GW has treated the chaos books in both 40k and fantasy has been bad at best. Also just to rub it into all you guys' faces even more the reason they cut the daemons out of CSM was that there wasn't enough room for them in the book. Now how big is the marine codex again? Oh yes nearly 1 1/2 times bigger than C:CSM, and well if the people at head office had an ounce of common sense they would have seen that if they'd removed all the needless special characters from the daemons book they could have fitted it all into a codex the size of C:SM. Now how many off us would have paid that extra £3 just to have it all in 1 book. Well done GW. Rant mode off.

Random Guy

Well, I have a TONNE of daemon miniatures collected over the duration of three gaming systems (second ed, third ed, fourth ed) all of which originally form part of my various Chaos Space Marine forces (Death Guard, Thousand Sons, Emperors Children and Word Bearers) which I have endeavoured to make very distinct via conversions, elaborate paint schemes etc (my favourites are my daemonettes that are dancing over the corpses of Eldar victims).

With the release of the current Chaos Space Marine codex, all of that expenditure of creative energy effectively became redundant, and the daemons themselves became so boring to play with they may as well be represented by blobs of blue tack on bases.

The Daemon Codex, however, provides a means of fielding them the like of which really hasn't been seen since the old "Daemon World" appendix list in the Second Ed codex. The codex itself is also a much more consummate product than the Chaos Space Marine one, which is reason enough in and of itself to play it. I also rather like the way Daemon armies play at present; they are truly unique in thde 40K universe rather than just being another CC army.

I'm a long term daemon player for fantasy, so welcomed the chance to play them in 40K too.

Mind you, I don't use the army as the common felling amongst our club is that they don't work in 40K for mono god armies, and those of us with mono daemon armies aren't going to pay extra to win in a secondary game.

Seems like I'm a mix of some folk and other folk. First I had old models from my old chaos that was a mix of khorne and word bearers (so I had a lot of the models). Second, I was tired of winning with my brets the whole time in WHFB... so I decided to play an even cheesier army that I can win faster with so I don't feel as bad for as long. ;)

I hate how they nurfed some of the daemons though, mainly the BL's getting their 3+ armor taken away... never understood that. :)

Oh, did I mention I also like challenging armies to play? ;)

My dedication to Tzeentch required me to collect Tzeentch Daemons ^_^ and I have Chaos in 40k and fantasy ^_^ so I also see that I can use the army in both game systems and in bigger games combine it with my Thousand Sons/Warriors of Chaos armies from the appropriate system.
I got lots of demons from long before the demon dex. I play fantasy as well as 40k, and the fantasy chaos army I used to field included lots of demons, and couple of times I even played with a pure demonic legion list ... I used lots of letters and usually the Bt in 40k with the old CSM dex too... So, when the demon dex came out, I got lots of angry demons ready to march to war again.

For me I am just starting a Chaos Daemon army. For me I am a big fan of all that is Chaos mainly being my Iron Warriors (now Mech list in 5th Ed).

With Daemons is a complete diffrent style of gaming & as per normal with chaos as said offer great conversion & model look cool.

I was orignaly going to start my Daemon force sooner when I was part timer in GW, but never got ahead while I was busy with other project. But aftering seen my friend Daemon force it really inspired me to push forward. I am aim to get my Daemon force all bought by the end of next week or two (depend money) & get the force fully painted before x-mas.

My army going to be Khorne theme with a detachment of soul grinder, got a cool conversion planned for Skull taker on juggernaut (mainly green stuff a cape with tons of skull glue on).

I play Daemons for one simple reason...a friend of mine bought the spearhead and extra troops, but left them unassembled once he realized how much effort it takes to get into 40k. That said, I couldn't let those cute little daemonettes and bloodletters go without being christened in battle. After some quick negotiations, I was able to purchase them for far less than I should have and have since found decent success. I did add a few Tzeentch units in order to make the box more complete, though.

Also having a marine army on hand, the daemons provide some much needed variety and randomness to the games I play. It's especially fun to watch my daemonettes peel open MEQ's with their rending claws, too.

I play demons because I love Death Guard and I am waiting for a legions Codex. To survive until the I got the demons codex and build up a small army of nurgle. Maybe there will be a chance to combine 1000 pts Death Guard with 1000 points Nurgle demons!
Basically just because their concept is so awesome :whistling: I like what they're "about" as well, the core ideas of what daemons (and chaos, the warp and the gods, specifically) are draw from some very interesting real life ideas and elements, which brings me to them specifically over a lot of other forces.
I started a Nurgle/Khorne Daemon army mainly for Apocalypse. I have a Death Guard army as my main force (currently 15,000 points and rising!), a Khorne/Nurgle Renegade Militia army, and I'll soon be collecting a World Eaters war band. I needed something to tie the two together in Apocalypse, and when the chance arose to field an all Daemon army, I jumped right in! Haven't looked back since.

most of the force i have was collected over the years. since the CSMs no longer get anything but genaric choices i thought it was a waste and bought the new 'dex.

i have yet to do any major purchases, the grinders look too cool not to get a couple or three. but with the rest of the force being all metal, my current collection will be bolstered by the too inexpensive troops boxes.
