nicely painted models you got there, But I want to know what the marines hold onto when travelling at terminal velocity through the atmosphere :D The pod's gonna open up and reveal a power armoured goo.

Joke's aside, you've got a good flat colour and great weathering. Nicely done :whoops:

the pods for the dread.... thats why there are no harnesses... wanted to make its so that its as if the bolter comes up from the floor once he steps out, and there is a cable dangling down that he was linked up to. I've not seen any other dread drop pods to go on but they make a nice target on the battlefield lol! :whoops:

very nice, I haven't seen a dread pod all painted up yet. personally, I would have put the 'rust' marks going in the opposit direction to make them look more like scorch marks from the fall, but thats just me.

woah, those are some really nice damaging and rust effects. Would u mind explaining how you obtained that "black dots" effect?

Regards!

its sponged on boltgun metal..

as for the direction of the rust marks.. i was in two minds about this... i'm waiting for an airbrush to come and i'm thinking of doing some dark almost black burn streaks in the upward direction with this... i think it needs them..

Thanks :)

Wow, this really is one of the best white miniatures that I've ever seen.

I'd love to hear a bit more about the colors and techniques you used the make this. The white doesn't look highlighted, but it seems that you washed it with something like the new gryphonne sephia wash.

The only thing I'd put up for critique would be the grey areas on the flights. They look a bit too untouched compared to the rest of the piece.

I'll definately be following your stuff from now on.

Well forgeworld published a book recently which has alot of their techniques in its a great read (not plugging them at all) basically one of the big things they use are oil paints.. as they take a while to dry and are almost very thick, by thinning them first, you get them to run into places and cracks etc.. but as it dries over time.. the thinners evaporates, and you're left with the paint to manipulate. I didn't really use any washes to be honest, just techniques from that book.

Thanks for the comment... hope to get some more work done soon.. i've afew rhinos and a razorback and squads in then, also lots of bikes and a special khan on moondrakkon conversion waiting to be painted (I want to get things just right before doing him)

Agreeing with everyone else, these minis have a wonderful, wonderful look. I'd love a tutorial, or even just a quick explanation, for your whites. They're really nice looking.

The whole thing was undercoated with black spray, then given a further undercoat of white... but lightly so that the recesses were still dark/grey from the black underneath... and towards the base of the pod this was only thinly sprayed to leave the same effect... found it saved alot of time on working up from a grey to a white... finally once undercoated it was then painted with thin layers of white in the bulk areas to really bring out the white colour :D

I think you've done a really great job on the realism part of the pod. The weathered areas and rust stains are superb. The only little critique I have is that you've made the white amazing, but the grey areas of the fins seem sparkling new. I don't know if its the pic quality but the grey fin area seems to need a little weathering attention as well. Otherwise you've mastered a very difficult paint scheme, white is probably the hardest to pull off correctly.
