Wolf89
Well I think I fixed the raven (at least it looks a LOT better to me) I hope you agree. http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/2448/dsc01027vm6.jpg I'll have to look up some good viking names or something... Some of those you mentioned hendrik sound good though, thanks. Wolf89
Well I came up with the names... let me list them and explain: Vindi #1: Randulfr meaning "shield wolf" this seems pretty simple, it's tough as nails (also has a shield "siege shield") and when close it hits hard, like a wolf. Vindi #2: Asbjörn meaning "divine bear" this is also simple, get close and it hits hard, and it's durable like a bear. Whirlwind: Vithar meaning "forest warrior" this one is how I play my whirlwind, can be interpreted in 2 different ways, first is that I fight while hiding it in the forest, or you could look at is that if your guys are hiding in a forest, my whirly hits you just as hard as in the open. Lord's Rhino: Falkor meaning "guardian of the people", basically the rhino protects (or guards) the guys insides, and they're people... I figured the Lord is a people person... right? Rune Priest's Rhino: Bergthor meaning "spirit of Thor", Thor being the god of thunder, and such, I figured the guy casting stormcaller... you know... 1+1= thor?... Wolf Priest's Rhino: Hallvardr meaning "rock defender", well he's a priest, and you know, divine word of the emperor, all that whole bit, and rock is always used as a symbol of god and whatnot, so I thought the rhino that protected... you know... right? Well I like the names, I think they fit, and more pictures when I'm less lazy... :fakenopic: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153843-wolf-lords-rhino/page/2/#findComment-1795297 Share on other sites
Jonny Wolf
Digging all the names except the Wolf Lord's... Dunno Guardian of the People just doesn't sound aggressive enough for me, especially how it brings one of the most vicious marines in the Imperium to battle... Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
i like all the names, especially the lord. here is my reasoning: why the wolves are the vicious marines in the Imperium, they are also the most humane. they protest the actions of the Imperium, and have fought against the Imperium when needed. that is why lohan is beloved by the people of the Imperium, and why the SW rock. they are the (maybe only) good guys in w40k. wolf lord kieran Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153843-wolf-lords-rhino/page/2/#findComment-1795469 Share on other sites
Pork Chop Express
Wolf89What about incorporating a painting of the Rune Priest's Chooser of the Slain along with some swirling typw wind/snow and lightning? This could fit on the top doors easily. The psyber raven could be the focal point with some lightning in the background along with some snow. I picture the snow moving in a diagonal direction as if being forced by the wind. This would be in the background as well and allow you to focus your talents on the raven itself <_< Just an idea, what do you think? This is perfect, I'll do this thank you very much Espon. After getting some meat and ale in my belly I will start painting. As for the Wolf priest I guess it's just a wolf skull on the doors... not a bad thing, just couldn't come up with anything cooler. If I'm not lazy I'll post pics within a few hours, just some errands to run, cooking, cleaning, and the painting of course. Wolf89 Glad you liked my idea. I wish I had your dedication and motivation to follow through on some of the ideas I get. Every now and then I get inspired to greatness. I know what you mean about jumping from project to project; I have miniature/video game ADD or something... The raven looks cool; I think its difficult to get a bird's likeness looking directly at it. Most of the time you see a bird depicted from it's profile. Good job, I'll definitely be watching your thread!!! Grey Mage
One comment on the raven... the beak should be a little longer and sharper, other than that the whole thing looks gorgeous man. Wolf89
One comment on the raven... the beak should be a little longer and sharper, other than that the whole thing looks gorgeous man. Yea, it's hard to get the shape of a beak when looking head-on. If you didn't figure it out, I painted the raven while looking at Njal's psyber raven, so it's in the same static pose and stuff, as Espon said, it's hard to get the right look from head-on. I'll see about making it look better. As for the rest of the Rune Priest's Rhino, it'll have some runes here and there, but I wanted to finish the Lord's Rhino first. So here's a few pics for you guys to see how the other two should turn out (wolf priests' will obviously be black with grey highlights). Also the weaponry (searchlight, stormbolter, smoke launchers) will be attached separately. Also a few "touch-ups" are needed obviously. http://triton.imageshack.us/Himg145/scaled.php?server=145&filename=dsc01029ct4.jpg&xsize=578&ysize=480 http://triton.imageshack.us/Himg367/scaled.php?server=367&filename=dsc01028fj1.jpg&xsize=578&ysize=480 I like how I used brazen brass, it turned out nicely I think, plus it matches my wolves. More to come likely tomorrow before work... as today after my classes I go straight to work, so yea, not much time there. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153843-wolf-lords-rhino/page/2/#findComment-1795916 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
Wolf89.... never mind man. I misinterpreted that picture badly :S. What I thought was the beak for a moment was in fact the eyeball... many apologies. Now I understand.... very nice. I might say put some more emphasis on the ravens left eye *our right?* to make it more noticeable. Otherwise its wonderful! I also like the words on your tanks... I was beggining to think I was the only one who wrote names on those little things.... everyone around here seems to just do little fuzzy black lines to represent script *sighs* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153843-wolf-lords-rhino/page/2/#findComment-1795992 Share on other sites
WolfLordLars
Just remember, the "r" at the end of Norse/Viking names is silent. Tyrvaldr would be pronounced "Tear-vald" not "Tear-valder". The R rune was there to signify the end of the name, I believe (I read it in a historical report about runes). The R rune was there to signify the end of the name, I believe (I read it in a historical report about runes). So how does that work with a name like Thor? Would you pronounce it "Though" instead of "Thoar". Excuse the wierdness of the pronunciation key, I've always said Thor like Boar/Bore but with a "Th" sound instead of a "Buh" sound. Or have I been deceived my entire life and Thor isn't really a Norse name? ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153843-wolf-lords-rhino/page/2/#findComment-1796938 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
Its only if the R follows a consonant .... like Thorvaldr is pronounced as if it were spelled thorvald. See? Thor on the other hand is after a vowel.... totally different story ;). Thor on the other hand is after a vowel.... totally different story . Actually, I think thats right. Its something in the way Runes are written. I am no expert, but did read a paper on it written by someone who was really into norse names. Me, I prefer Roman/Byzantine names. But, being in the SCA, I am given a wide variety of names to use. All my dreads are named for Dukes. "Olaf" "Lycurgus" pretty soon "Alrik" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153843-wolf-lords-rhino/page/2/#findComment-1797732 Share on other sites

Wolf89
Well last night I stayed up late after work to build my 2 vindi's and whirlwind... here you go. http://triton.imageshack.us/Himg92/scaled.php?server=92&filename=dsc01038uv2.jpg&xsize=578&ysize=480 Note the one in the front doesn't have that dumb missile thing in the back... it was wasted time, I don't like how it looks or turned out, I thought I'd give it a try for the first one though. Might just prime these before I go to work... more pictures next week. Wolf89
Well I look forward to seeing them man. Are you going to do more fun murals.... or just "standard" job? Well unlike the rhinos, their top hatch is quite occupied with lots of bits and pieces and elevation changes, so a nice picture is out of the question. However, like all my other units in my army, the red wolf head will be on the door of each vehicle and armor I have. The one place I'm toying with is the siege shield itself for the two vindicators, and possibly either the top of the launcher on the whirlwind or it's back hatch to paint something. Finals week this week so progress will be slower than usual. As always, ideas are welcome, especially for the vindi's shields... Grey Mage
Perhaps turn the barrel of a vindi into a maw? with the rest of the wolf/bear painted on the shield? Icons seem like theyd be enough on a whirly.... they git crowded quickly.
