Yet Another Iron Hands Force

Recommended Posts

Greetings my power armored brethren!

I am proud to show the works so far and in progress for my Iron Hands army soon to be dropping from the sky.....

Dreadnought 1 of 4 (posing complete)

Still need to work on the pilot area and the armor plating, and wiring between the various pieces.

THough the greenstuff didnt quite dry as I had intended it still works.

My goal was to change the pretty static pose of the ordninary dread model.

and to see what I could do with the black reach dread kit......

Scouts....... 1 of god knows how many

WHile I'm quite happy with the way its looking right now. I still need to work on a viable method of shading and highlighting with my color scheme.

I dont want to go with the straight black color scheme of the traditional IH force, primarily because of the difficulty in highlighting such a scheme.

Plus I also think it tends to swallow up a lot of the details in the model.

So I'm trying Charadon Grey on some armor areas and black on others.

It will appear more on the power armored marines.

Also my goal is to give every bare headed marine bionic eyes similar to Batou from Ghost in the Shell.

And meatier / meaner looking bionics than the skeletal looking ones that GW produces.

Somthing more in line with Ghost in the Shell, or Blame, and Biomega

SOme have turned out better than others, but with practice I can pull it off.

Comments and advice I highly desired.

I'm coming back into the hobby after over a decade of missing it.

and I really need methodology and materials advice.

Im starting to like the greenstuff putty more and more ;)

Though I'm not too sure how to make extra armor plates for around the head.

That is a very nice looking dread!

I like the use of the shin guard on the sarcophagus! (I might have to borrow that from you :P )

The only negative thing I would say would be that the leg seems to be bending back on itself...but that's minor!

Nice work! ;)

One thing I'm not sure about is the DCCW.

I wanted to make a more extended and arm-like version, with a defined elbow joint and Bicep / Tricep.

But in lookin at it now, I'm not too sure.

Has anyone found anything like that on CoolMiniOrNot?

Or one of the members here?

Anyone have any DIY suggestions as a replacement for PlastiCard??

They dont sell it here in China, so I'm a bit stuck.

I've tried cannibalizing plastic binders, but that didnt turn oot the way i wanted it....

Old credit cards, etc work quite well... Hope that helps.

Great looking Shotgun Facelift! Though, my one thing..the 'wires' in the back really look like tentacles...

For the DCCW (I have no clue for the DC part..but everyone does it..maybe it stands for..Dreadnought..Combat...Close Weapon =-D )You could use maybe a few assault cannons..I have at least 20 from the Ravenwing sprue...And just use the barrels or something..That'd be kind of a cool effect.

For plasticard, the "for sale" type signs also work really, really well. If you need something thicker than that, use plastic glue to melt the two together. (But here in US...we get plasticard...the "for sale" signs might be cheaper in reality....)

Pipes / cables

I ran out of ideas how to do them quickly and still make them look like th armored cables on the Devastator weapons.

The only way i could mould the cable and sculpt the armored segments was to start off with a paperclip as the base.

Which would take longer, and would make it more difficult to fit the wires in.

Also I had just mixed a big gob of green stuff and had too get something done before it dried!

My plan is to paint most of the smaller ones in red/green/blue like regular circuit board wires and attempt to file in some segements and texture into the larger ones, then paint them a dirty metalic color.

DCCW Arm

I've sculpted alot of structure into the DCCW arm where the wire currently is.

Its not done yet,but I think I will be able to pull off a more articulated arm than the regular dreadnought DCCW arm.

I'll try to make an update tonight.

Plasticard

Thats a great Idea!!!!

Sons of Horus--

Dont worry I wont be sculpting any heretical icons on this dread.

THough I do want to show a closer affiliation with the Ad Mech than with the Adept Astartes..... ;)

updates are coming, just gotta collect a couple more bobbleheads

Still running into issues with painting the all black color scheme.

I just dont have the practise with the highlighting method yet.

I think this Iron Hands force might soon be turned into a Doom Eagles force, which would still give me the fluff options involving Dreadnoughts.

Though I could not field as many of them with this chapter.

My goal is to create a Orbital Fast Attack Force.

Scouts on the Ground

2 full Assault Squads

2 Dread with Drop Pods

Instead of using a Forgemaster with a Conversion beamer (I LOVE this weapon), im going for a Librarian with a jump pack.

But we'll see what christmas brings.......
