Battlegroup Ragnarok - The God machines walk!

It's sort of hard to appreciate the size and detail on Odin from a few still pics so I have russled up a little movie for you chaps!

Apols for the low res and out of focus areas, filmed it using the basic film function on my camera. I have it on good authority that the big fat dude in the red suit may well be bringing me a nice hi-res camcorder, looks like movies a plenty for 09!!!

The sounds comprise of just 8 mechwarrior mp3 files pulled from the web, they run on a random loop from an MP3 player that simply plugs into the powered active speakers installed deep within the bowels of the big fella! The speakers are vented out of the lower back as you can see from the rear views. beauty of this simple system is that I can go stick some better sounds on the player as and when I find some! Also play normal music if I wish, the coolest MP3 player ever?! ;D Slaughtering the chaos hordes to the best of Abba gold, doesnt get more surreal than that!

Little quiet on the movie but it's annoyingly loud in the flesh, will see about sorting a better movie after xmas ;)

Anyhow, skip over to the webpage here Warlord Odin, link right at the top, either left click to play through media player or right click to DL, have fun!

OK, finally found some time this weekend to knock together those additional weapon systems for Odin!

Lot of people have 'complained' about him being way too big for a Warlord, personally I say if your gonna build a Titan, build it as big as you can, clues sort of in the name ::blush:

Anyhow, seemed a good enough excuse to build something!

Odin shall soon be upgraded to 'Warbringer - Titan Hunter' class, I will work out some in depth fluff as things progress but basically your looking at a behemoth of a machine specifically created to hunt and destroy enemy Titans.

In real terms this means a load out of 4 carapace and 2 arm weapons, maybe a couple of extra void shields and structure points. I figure it would also be feasible to contain barrack quarters in the huge carapace for up to 3 space marine squads (preferably assault to allow rapid deployment to ground level defence)

Roughly a machine that sits between the Warlord and Imperator but designed specifically to go out and kick some machine butt rather than sit back and provide support like the Warmonger class

In modelling terms I will replace the two AA mounts on the front carapace with 2 new weapon systems. 2 x Triple barrel superturbo laser destructors. A much larger and more powerful version of the weapon mounted on the Reaver Titan specifically aimed at overloading enemy shields allowing for killing blows to the unprotected machine beneath. Although these are some of the smaller weapons wielded by Odin you may note that they are still as big as a Reaver Titan....yikes!

Anyhow, progress pics below, will update once they are painted and mounted

Raided the bits box again, empty tamiya thinner tubs, some old make-up bottles (erm, the good ladies, not mine I hasten toi add!) and the tops from the sprays I use amongst other things went into the build......waste not want not!

Sprinkled a little paint over the Super Turbo Laser Blasters, nothing too fancy they are after all stuck right up there on the top of the Carapace!

*gurgles*

this is insane. i found your web page a long time ago, but not being able to find it again i dismissed it as being a dream, and having found it makes me question whether the one with the huge scary boots was also true. but...how on earth do you do such a thing?! after such a huge amazing thing, how do you improve?

i like the idea though, that this could be a big titan and not have to sit about like many of the big titans, go about killing things and stuff.

did you build it for Apoc, or was it before that?

amazing work. keep going, until you are promoted to the emperor and have planets to conquer to use up your time..

He's a real old timer Erik, sat around in the shed for over 10 years before apoc was released, a lot of the carapace battle damage came from me getting bored and shooting it with the airsoft guns, the big gouge was made by a Garden rake of Khorne randomly attacking!

A friend asked if I could brush it up and bring it into the local GW shop for the release of Apoc last year, in the meantime I hade scratched quite a number of different vehicles for 40k. Odin was looking a little bare and basic compared to these so he came home for an overhaul, the rest, as they say is history!!!

Dont think I posted a pic with these new weapons mounted??? Anyhow here is one

I was musing over building an Orky super-great-gargant along the same scale as Odin, sort of a massive moving ork battle fortress, in reality I really dont have the space so sadly this will probably never happen :P

Not able to face one more piece of chocolate over Easter I decided to go back over the FW Reaver Titan. The initial paint job was a little rushed as I was a little excited and wanted to see my first large FW model finished! Anyhow, this weekend I worked it over head to toe, lined details, highlighted a few areas, added a couple of mechanicus symbols to the back of the weapons, little things which I missed on the first pass but niggled at me over time

Not sure if many of the changes actually show that well on the digi pics but with the mk1 eyeball in my opinion it defo looks the dogs danglers now, hell even I am pleased with it!

One thing chaps, was toying with the idea of adding a little weathering to the feet, similar to the sort on my tanks, dust and a little splashed mud...what ya think?

Few pics, lots more on Mjolnir's webpage Mjolnir Reaver Titan latest pics at the top of the page just after the story

Oh, for those that asked the blue was achieved using Tamiya colours X-3 Royal blue, X-4 Blue, XF-8 Flat blue and XF-18 Medium blue. Layed onto a black base in that order. I dont really have an airbrush techinique, very casual I would say, Pray n spray ;D Never believed in wasting too much time on one model so all I can say is go with what your comfortable with, use more of the final medium blue if your going for a more faded look. The gold is created using a range of paints called 'miniature paints' again onto a base of black use Bronze then old Gold in that orde. If you want to line a little detail in when your done do it with a brush using a mixture of GW gold and Mithril silver

The comparison picture of the old Armorcast Reaver and the new Forgeworld Reaver is very telling. Its good to see the new Reaver "beefed up" and given a greater physical "presence". That and the expended shells coming out of the gun are a great add on. Its very nice! Again, my compliments!

Anyhow, how's a Reaver Melta cannon in a morning from a matchbox sound?

Don't really need it but I couldnt resist the title and I didn't want to waste a perfectly good matchbox!

Here are the base components, 1 x matchbox, 1 x used prittstick tube, 1 x tamiya thinners lid...and we're away! (original turbo laser shown for scale)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/Meltacannon2.jpg

Basic shape has been put together

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/Meltacannon3.jpg

The heat shield isnt as complicated as it looks, simply measure out the slots, drill a hole at both ends then using the knife cut out the middles, quite theraputic!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/Meltacannon5.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/Meltacannon6.jpg

All done! The heat shield will not be glued in place until painted, final pic is my favourite stage, undercoated to bring all those weird and wonderful parts together to form the illusion

Will post some pics once I have slapped some paint on it. Built totally from scrap items, I estimate taking paint into account it cost something like 37p, not a bad saving on the FW original!

Slapped a little paint on that melta cannon, left off the cables so it allows me more weapon option rather than being fixed to a particular side. Gotta admit I checked out the stats, thought it was a little pants....then I saw the 10 inch template....Sweet Monkey Jesus!

Anyhow, I'm off to play with my new hot foam sculpting tools......be afraid. Be very Afraid!

  • 2 weeks later...

did you make the fist or is it the forge world one?

your scratchbuilding from that picture is incredible, did you plan it all out or did you do it as you went along?

Fist is an old armorcast one. I never plan anything, it just fudges things up in my head, I work best making it up as I go along!

Next project...

Little teaser, Any guesses? ;D
