Reaver Red

Accommodator

Recommended Posts

Updated an Armorcast Reaver to use the FW rules.

But as can be seen, the reds no longer match - Red Gore is too purple, Blood Red is too orange. Crimson is no longer made. How does one match the colours?

It is difficult to tell from the picture. It looks more like you have sun weathered it. Like on a car where the parts of the vehicle that always get the direct sunlight fade or bleach as opposed to the darker parts that do not always see the sun.

Fluff-justify it by explaining that this particular Reaver was heavily damaged and repaired with parts from another one of its Legion that was damaged beyond repair...

Nice work on the guns btw! Is that an Armorcast alternative head? Those are quite rare! B)

I can see the color variances you've mentioned. Here's my Khorne-aligned Reaver:

The flash washes out some of the color, but you can see it better in the legs. I used a simple Mechanicus Red base (Foundation paint) followed by a Blood Red highlight. If you wanted to make your model seem more uniformly red (and shiny to boot), try going over all your red with Red Ink.

Here's an example of AdMech Red with Red ink over it:

Yeah, tried a red ink wash on Friday - looked good in my home lighting. Got it to the Bunker and it looked crap. The lights there are a very harsh bright with a tinge of blue to them. Industrial. As one red shirt said - cheap lights. Really brought out hard shadows. So, I'm thinking I 'll strip the paint and start over, instead of trying to mix and match. *sigh* I've got a monumental task in front of me if I go this route.

Hi all,

Just noticed someone else lamenting the fact that some of the paints no longer match. This was something which has caused me a few problems in the past when touching up some older mimis from the early 90's (yes, I'm old, I know). The company who used to make the old citidel paintsstill produce them. They now work under Cote D'Arms (or some approximate spelling) andmake the exact same range, although under different names for copyright reasons. You can find them on the black tree design web site. Hope this is of some help.

LOL sure that's not Vallejo paints? I know they have a few of the old paints like tentacle Pink (Squid Pink), nauseating Blue (Sick Blue), and Putrid green (I think it's Foul Green).

A link to Cote De Arms would be helpful, as I don't think I've ever seen that paint line before.

No he's right, Vallejo Game Colour is designed to mimic GWs colours both current and old but its a different paint - its aimed more at blending whilst the old GW is more for drybrushing, the Coat d'Arms fantasy range is literally the same paint GW used to sell. You can get it from Black Tree Designs, but they now have a bit of a rep for bad service. The Coat d'Arms brand is now owned by Black Hat however who always give good service: http://www.blackhat.co.uk/coat_darms/
