Runepriest2007
Oh, and what's a CML? I'm guessing: Chapter Master Launcher or something...Yes, I did notice that eve really small neodymium magnets can hold other magnets even through quite a bit of plastic. I suppose larger ones go through more plastic. Shortsonfire79
I'm doing a vid on sculpting a shoulder pad, which I've only done once. It turned out okay. The shoulder pad I'm doing, I've never seen before, so we'll see how it goes. Malkuth
I just found out that 1mm x 3mm magnets stick together just fine through 1mm (or a bit less in this case) of solid plastic, which means I managed to magnetize a CML to a terminators back without having to have bare magnet visible when another weapon option is used. I might take some pictures when I make the next one if anyone's interested. Yes, I'd have loved to do this, but at the time, I didn't currently have small enough magnets, so I couldn't place any in the CML, so I didn't do it =-P If you'd like to post, go right ahead! Neither did I, actually, so I modified the connection a bit: http://i378.photobucket.com/albums/oo229/Malkuth/cml003.jpg A more proficient modeller could certainly make it look a lot better, but even this one will look ok after some cleaning up, I think. You can't really see the connetion when it's attached to the terminator. The downside of this is, that you can't use the specific torso frontside that's supposed to go with CML, but I didn't think it was much of a problem. I did remove the bit that's supposed to connect with wires coming from the torso, however. Shortsonfire79
Mmm I didn't wan to do it that way, because I didn't like the way that it looked in the middle, I wanted to place it IN the CML, but I guess that works. Malkuth
Yeah, I know, definitely not the best looking way to do it, but works for me. Do you mean "in the CML" as in hiding both/all magnets inside the model, or just using magnets with about half the diameter compared to those I used and putting one in each "slot"? Shortsonfire79
I mean placing them into the CML when I assemble it, so its never visible, and a couple in the body, so they're never visible. Its magic! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154822-modelling-using-magnets/page/3/#findComment-1854350 Share on other sites
MechSpacewulf
A little trick I do for the polarity is pair up all the magnets you will be using and marking the outside magnets with a black sharpie. This way if they get dropped or stick to another bunch all you need to do is black gets buried and silver should be showing. Has been working wonders. Hope this helped. Shortsonfire79
I used to do that, but the sharpie just rubbed off after time. (while still not in use) its easier to just get a model thats already been magnetized, and set polarity directions before you start working.
