Sons of Horus
nice list. i love pure lists since they're the most fluffy. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155126-the-war-forge/#findComment-1810953 Share on other sites
Master Chaplain Astador
Thanks, thats why I love it too! :P I plan to add some Crushers when I go up to 2500 pts. ==Me==
That's a great log you've got there, well done :P For your list, some more Bloodletters would definitely help to keep them alive longer. Icons and Bloodcrushers would be nice too. Fury of Khorne isn't all that hot and a single Grinder will draw lots of fire (I go for 2 at least). Captain Malachi
I won't say much here as I've been following your other thread (as you well know :)), but I'll say this again, beautiful 'grinder! I'm still waiting on that tutorial. Master Chaplain Astador
Thanks guys! :) The tutorial will be started once I get this bit of the army painted! :D The Soul Grinder sucks up fire, but it usually is only small arms that need lucky 6's to scratch it. The player I am playing again runs a Space Wolves army with few anti-tank weapons. :) Should have more later. I am working on the name for the Bloodthirster and some fluff. Any idea's on a name? Dourine
Honestly, i play daemons, and Heralds of Khorne on juggernauts aren't all that great for the points you put into them. And i find skulltaker to be not that great of a choice. My suggestion would be to drop skulltaker and the herald and use the points to get plain ol' crushers. You're dropping two guys to get 5 bloodcrushers. I currently run a squad of 8 bloodcrushers. I just got up to playing 2000 points with daemons and 8 bloodcrushers is a bit much. They're really a slow unit, smart players will stay away from the unit. It usually only takes down one squad per game, however, it draws enough firepower to make back it's points from other stuff getting shot up. Summary, drop the herald and skulltaker, put a squad of 5 crushers. They're good at drawing fire from your bloodletters which will die rather easily to massed small arms fire. Try and get them into combat, but use them as more of a psychological unit. Edit: Also, i would suggest giving the prince either flight or armor, use the extra points to upgrade 'letter squads to 10 each. I know 8 is the fluffy number, but 10 seems to be a magic number for their survivability in my experience. Master Chaplain Astador
Thanks for the tips Dourine, the list also takes into account model availability. :) I don't play much which is why I choose to play armies based on fluff! :) On another note, I named the Bloodthirster! His name is Thamuz, Master of the Forge, Lord of Antioc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155126-the-war-forge/#findComment-1812088 Share on other sites
Dourine
If you ever get in a game with that, PM me telling me how the flesh hounds went. I love the new models but can't go through with putting them in my list. I don't like the fact they're only WS4. I'd be happy if they had one more attack, or were WS5. Master Chaplain Astador
Well in my smaller list that I ran this past weekend they worked out pretty well. I ran 20 of them and at the end of the game, 10 were still alive. I had been rolling pretty bad, but still managed to get a massacre result. He only had a Rune Priest left and wouldn't be able to kill 14 Bloodletters, 10 Hounds, and a Soul Grinder, plus the Herald. Captain Malachi
Nice one, although I've been surprised at what those wolf characters can do, though I doubt he could do that much :( Hounds are good, but not awesome, while other options are, having said that, they bring something to a Khorne army it can't get anywhere else, a 19-24" charge, not bad at all. Edit- And no, do not, whatever you do, drop old Skully, he's awesome, as long as he gets to combat, which is what the juggers are for. Dourine
I don't see what skulltaker can do that 3 normal bloodcrushers can't. Skulltaker has rending on 4+, but big whoop. Bloodcrushers usually wound on 4+ anyways with power weapons. Against the odd wraithlord or carnifex you'd prolly be better off using a BT anyways. I AM THE AWESOME
Mathhammer time  (All #s assume charge bonuses) Skully on Jugger vs Carnifex: 6 Attacks * 2/3 chance of hit * 1/2 chance of wounding (rending) = 2 wounds Skully on Jugger vs Wraithlord: 6 Attacks * 2/3 chance of hit * 1/2 chance of wounding (rending) = 2 ID wounds BT vs Carnifex: 6 Attacks * 2/3 chance of hit * 5/6 chance of wounding = 3.333 wounds BT vs Wraithlord: 6 Attacks * 2/3 chance of hit * 1/2 chance of wounding = 2 wounds So really, once factoring in Skully's ID rending, they're about the same, but then Skully's some 80 points cheaper, now isn't he? EDIT: also, the BT drops in effectiveness quickly after the 1st round of combat, but skully stays similar due to his 4+ rending. Master Chaplain Astador
That is a good point I Am The Awesome! :) Although I do like having both! :) I keep trying to write some fluff, but I always get sidetracked! :) Today I received two of Scibors new Ancient ruin bases with the faces on them, great bases! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155126-the-war-forge/#findComment-1813338 Share on other sites

Master Chaplain Astador
Haha I am working on it! I'll get it done sometime in the next week or so! :D I am finishing up building Bloodletters for this weekend, then hopefully filling the gaps, and as you saw in the Blog, look at bitz for the bases from Scibor! Master Chaplain Astador
Just to let everyone know, I won the game today! But only by one kill point! It was real close! I lost all 31 hounds, skulltaker, the herald, and almost 20 bloodletters. But I still pulled it out. The game ended on turn 5, but we played through 6 to see what would happen. He would have still lost. But I came to understand, Karanak is the most useless character ever. If the opponent gets the initiative and directs his attacks at Karanak, with his single wound, it makes him useless. :\ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155126-the-war-forge/#findComment-1815440 Share on other sites

Captain Malachi
Unless they've changed it and I missed it, I don't think your opponent can direct attacks at Karanak, he's an upgrade character, like a seargent, not an IC. Master Chaplain Astador
Hm, well in 5ed. Characters have to be base-to-base. Or at least that is my understanding, so his character can direct it's attacks against Karanak. Captain Malachi
Doesn't matter, Karanak isn't a character, he's just an upgrade, same the musician in a horror squad really. So unless I'm wrong and enemy models can attack any upgraded member of the unit, Karanak can't be singled out, either way though, Karanak ain't that great. ==Me==
Yep, Karanak functions exactly like a Sergeant in Marine units, you cannot direct attacks against him unless you've got some special rules (or you cause enough wounds). Master Chaplain Astador
Hm alright, good to know for next time! lol But yeah, he would have killed the unit anyway.
