Assault Marines into Blood Claws

I am thinking about buying a few boxes of Assault Marines to make into Blood Claws, what do you think?

I think that making them from Assault Marines would give them that assaulty feel that they are the shock troops trying to get to grips with the enemy as quickly as possible. Also buy a couple Space Wolf sprues to get the wolfy stuff for them.

Scratch that....buy two Blood Claw sets from BitKingdom plus 3 sets of Assault Marine legs.....that comes out to just about $68 from him....that could work real well.

Although this doesn't really partain to the OP except that it is about Blood Claws, it is my post so I think I might be able to throw this in as a secondary subject.....I would need to think of how to deploy the awesome forces of a full Blood Claw pack with Wolf Guard Pack Leader and also how to equip them.

yeah, thewarstore doesnt have the best prices, but their shipping is amazingly fast...i just tried blackdagger gamers and they were cheaper and about the same speed...less selection though.

have tried bitz kingdom, isnt it uk based? (i have had terrible luck with shipping to/from the UK)

This guy I wish I had put more angle on the wolf tail, it just seems too straight now that I look at it....oh well.

I bought an Assault Marine set my LGS had (although a couple of the backpacks in the box had holes in them), popped on some Wolf Tails which I tried to angle to show motion again. I don't normally put my models together first but I thought I would try it on these, plus I have my airgun and hopefully enough Fenris Grey to get these Claws at least basecoated. I also popped some Frags on each model just cause I couldn't think of anything else to put on their hips besides BP mag pouches (which will probibly go on the right hip). I thought of putting some knives on but decided against it as they seem over-large, especially since they already have the Chainswords.

My next decision is how to do the shoulder pads, as I've always had trouble with them. I really don't want to put them on yet as I don't have any decently quick and/or easy way to paint the Sunburst Yellow that I use, without about half a gajillion layers. =P I think that is what is going to take the most time in the challange, getting the should pads done on time =P

Hi.

I know the problems that can come with painting shoulder pads when they are on the model - which is how I normaly do them, but for a change I have tried gluing them to spare sprue first after using them to get the models in the poses I wanted. I really didn't fancy the idea of trying to fit them on afterwards and find there wasn't enough room. Here's a pic (ignore the other bits)

As for painting them, everyone has their own style, but for the yellow I do this

Apply two or three thinned coats of Vomit Brown to the shoulder pads to build up a solid base colour, then apply a thinned coat of Golden Yellow to the shoulder pads allowing the Vermin Brown to show around the edge of the panel. Repeat this two or three times allowing a little of the previous coat to show through and you will have a good solid yellow. Add a little white to the Golden yellow and paint a thin line near the edge of the trim at the highest point of the shoulder pad and you are done. Finish with whatever design you want (red for Bloodclaws)

Hope this helps - DGC

EDIT: here's a pics of my w.i.p Assault Marine based Grey Hunters

That's a good idea but I just really like the Sunburst Yellow color, very bright against the darkness of the Fenris Grey I paint the armor of my Wolves. I like the POP it produces but I will try the layering you suggest again...maybe with my additional skills I can make it work...

@ Muzzy - I do my Pups Yellow with a coat of Iyandean (I can't spell it, doesn't matter as it's Xenos flith.) Yellow foundation, the 2 coats of thinned Golden Yellow for the bright look. Works fine.

@ DGC - very nice models there, your faces in particular. The guy in the first pic looks a bit silly though, what with his arms splayed up as if he's putting his hands up. Or maybe it's just the angle.

I see what you mean but the figure was built for a diorama and I wanted to get across the fierceness of a Space Wolf assault. This marine was meant to be leaping/charging of the top of a wall as the squad pour through some ruins

Here's the guy in context
